However, lightsabers are proportioned like historical European longswords, or katanas, which are used primarily with two hands, and whose combat styles generally take advantage of the reach afforded by them.

lightsaber and longsword are two different thing boy, i fence so i know the secrets of longsword and how you can look up in dictionaries, lightsaber has no weight but it's difficult to control him because... etc etc

@NecroBones Agreed, many believe that the saber is not suppose to be wielded like such a way, many hold it one handed and two handed and yet many do not know that Mr.George Lucas took the idea from fencing and japanese sword fighting, even darth maul's double saber was taken from Japan Naginata. I like the video and it is not easy making such a video. Very well done honestly.

@NecroBones Yes, that's exactly the point. Simply because your weapon is already so long, you don't need to hold your arms out stretched. Have you ever seen so. fighting with a Katana? It looks completely different. The arms are often bent and the Katana gets swung closely to the body.

well either u had a twin or ur really good at the cloning effect, however i could tell that the majority of your saber clashing effects were the same sound file, try to make them vary more theres plenty of sites online where u can get alot of saber sounds from or make them yourself which isnt hard either.

how long should a lightsaber be?

I think usually the blade length is about 3 feet, and the hilts are generally about 10-12 inches. I made the blades slightly shorter in this video so that I wouldn't be striking the garage-door opener, etc, so it's a 3-foot dowel with about 8 inches of it inside the hilt.

Thanks, it actually is pretty tricky, you're right about that. In this case, with the blades overlapping, in order to be able to see both for the rotoscoping, I had to do semi-transparent zig-zag edges in the compositing. I did it with EffectsLab and CompositeLab.
