@rinkavideos64 well it's saying with linux there's a lot of differnt linux based OS's out there like arch, ubuntu, and debian. there are just to name a few. but the point of this video is showing that instead of being restricted to just one style of OS you have many to choose from.
@DemCheggs no, it means it's customizable, the new jacket she got was a gui update/change (see: kde, xfce, gnome etc) where unlike windows and mac you're restricted to use the interface the system comes bundled with.
@codeinjection Not sure about Mac, but with windows, if you know your way around it well enough, you can pretty much customize your own interface as you please. Just...don't expect MS customer support to help you if you screw something up and breach the EULA. Then again, MS customer support sucks ass anyway, so.....yeah. There's that.
@Ocelot152 I have no problem with people choosing what OS they want to use, but I won't just keep quiet when someone puts out misinformation. I'm probably in a better position to make that judgement than you.

I find it's best to just troll in these wars, helps to fuel the flame wars people have.
@ezridaeus I agree with you. I don't know how many people here are casual users and more advanced users. I find that different OSs fill a different need. If I am setting up a home server or programming I usually use Fedora. If I am just messing around, streaming video, or playing games I use Windows 7. @handofstand Slackware is based on Linux, which has nothing to do with the original UNIX source code. You're thinking of BSD, which does have ties to the original code. Any other Linux users need to be educated about their operating system? I'm always happy to help.
@YetAnotherBadYT been banging it for fifteen years, good. steady and low cost. about to install the new version, no fee, though I spent $39. on a fresh harddrive. And I own it. And it doesn't phone home and tell mama everything.
There is nothing to disagree about. I said Linux updates frequently, but there isn't a official release for a skin. Only window changes skins in another version.
@storgodt I am a long-time Windows user and I never had a problem with navigation and other stuff, but my new Mac has saved me some valuable time since I don't have to fix the problems that constantly came with it. I haven't really tried Linux, and I don't plan to, especially since mac has the most experience with graphics and its so easy to use. Here's my personal list
@theawanonymouscaller Graphics? o.O Everyone know the graphics are better on PCs and if someone likes mac its because of the design. Skin your PC. I think you're just another guy who doesn't know what they're talking about when they think Mac is better.
@rockingharry2 mac users want to think they think different. Actually they just join a group. Trying to be with some group who all try to be special making them uh less special.
New invention a Ipad, whats that? well you know those tablet pc's wich were arround for years? Yes? well same idea only then it's a new invention don't ask why.
@rockingharry2 For gaming, you are right. PC blows Mac out of the water. However, when it comes to things like movies, art, writing, ect. Most people use Mac. Marvel and DC comics only use Mac computers. They're used in music industries and also in the production of cartoons etc. PC=gaming and high business. Mac=Creative works.
You're talking about the personal preferences of individual companies, most of which have already been influenced by a particular platform. 3D Studio Max doesn't even run on a Mac, and Photoshop CS4 can't even run in x64 under the Mac platform. I worked for a major advertising company raking in $300,000 in sales per week, and there wasn't one Mac in the entire studio.
Sure, it can do creative works. So can a PC, with even more versatility and a LOT more horsepower.
@theSPUDereHD You do realise OSX is really a variant of Linux right? They are both Unix based. OSX is just controlled by Apple as a closed source OS for distribution with their computers.
@Vaughnlesterinoz That's not true.. BSD variants are UNIX-based and so is systems like AIX. Linux is a UNIX-like kernel, which means it's more or less the same user-experience, but the kernel was developed apart from UNIX. The same is true with the Mac OS
@Vaughnlesterinoz Actually, OSX is not a varient of Linux, and linux is not a variant of Unix. Linux was developed to be an open source mimic of Unix. Linux kernel contains none of the source code of Unix.
Mac OS X has BSD code in it, and BSD is a Unix operating system.
Linux is called Unix-like because it resembles Unix, but is NOT Unix in any way.
Mac OS X is not only Unix-like, but in fact IS Unix at its core.
Both Linux and Windows are big on making a GUI look shiny but the Mac OS GUI is far more usable.
It's very clean, simple and easy to use but at the same time much more efficient.
I prefer working on my Mac (still running 10.5 Leopard) to working on my windows machine running Win 7 even though I have a larger screen on the windows machine.
I haven't spend that much time using Linux but most Linux GUIs I've seen are full of features that only look nice but don't actually increase productivity.
@Molo9000 Mac always tries to make they skinn look nice. The interface is ok but its not easier then windows or kde. Because people think it's easier they use it that way. Believe me its not that special. And as for stability linux is as stable as a mac.
Try opensuse with kde looks nice productive easy and functional.
@MrSpacelyy Really? How many clicks will it take you to configure Filesharing and internet sharing on a Windows computer? I can do it on OS X in exactly 4 clicks (just tried :) and in less than 4 seconds. No wizzards, no popups and annoying (please wait for ... blah blah blah).
And btw, I troubleshoot Windows computers for my clients as part of my job :), so i know Windows inside-out.
PC = Buisness men, people with low budget, ppl who havnt tried mac
Mac = ppl looking for a computer that easy-to-use, interesting, easy to set up, and all other postives of the computerworld. but PC got more games but im tokkin bout technical things
In the field of animation and visual effects, most high end software, such as AutoDesk Maya, Softimage XSI and Apple Shake, is available for Linux.
In the film industry, Linux has been the platform of choice for several years. The first major film produced on Linux servers was Titanic in 1997. Since then major studios like Dreamworks Animation, Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic have moved to Linux. ...95% of the servers and desktops at large animation and visual effects companies use Linux.
Most servers in general use Linux. The world would die if Linux just disappeared. Now, OS X, on the other hand... That's just Unix with a price tag on it...
man, i do every common thing somebody does in windows or mac, with my linux. (multimedia, play games, office and everything else.) Never needed to program anything.
Linux has many distros, some good for server, some good for programmers and some good for end-users .. please, don't generalize.
@xXJeReMiAhXx99 yea i guess thats all some wan to do, and then leave behind all the nonsense pop ups and all the crashes, all the typical p/c bs.
all a mac hater in the end reveals is that hes a cheapskate and wont spend money as an investment. again if they weret expensive you would have no point. Youre becoming redundant. I have both you arent convincing me of anything.
PC is way better than Mac. First of all, you don't have to buy into Apple's Monopoly. Second, you have better hardware at lower costs. Third, more games and software. Fourth, Mac OS X sucks.
@KevKo95 pc's sux osx works just fine. Its pc-ites that have an unfounded attitude against macs: and thats all it is: attitude.
I guess its competition you dont like either.
Pc's are fine so long as you have a repair guy on hand when you crash and burn as often as you do. Oh yea I guess you dont mind getting the bug often either. There are plenty of pc terrorists out there waiting to prey on your mac hate; have at it !
@vintagevic1 stop talking ur making urself look dumb we dont need a repair guy my pc has never crashed and i payed half as much as u did but i got better hardware
@vintagevic1 wow dude "you dont have to be a programmer to operate one like you do a pc" lol a pc is so simple to use idk how anyone could say u have to be a programmer maybe ur just slow? i dont know any programming and i never had to call anyone to fix anything my 7 year old brother was using one when he was 3 so u are either dumber then a 3 year old or ur statement is false
@vintagevic1 no not bs it's true anyway i do like ease of use and pcs are easy to use and better grahpics what are u talking about the way the os looks lol? if so then know i dont care too much i would never spend more then a few more bucks for that let alone another $500
the same games actually because you can run windows aswel as OSX on a mac plus mac has higher costs because it has better hardware and software .. and buying into apples monopoly ??? ... your entire comment is bullshit
Mac DOESN'T have better hardware than a PC, most PCs. With Mac, you're limited to Apple's shitty underpowered hardware. With PC, you can have any hardware you want.
You might be able to play games like Crysis on your Mac at about 1 FPS.
you are obviously another one of the ignorant people that have no idea about a Mac yet pretend to know everything about it. I Have crysis on my macbook (the Cheapest mac you can get !!) and it runs at MINIMUM 35-40 FPS so get your facts right before you talk shit ...
no thats bs? mabe on low settings and lower resoultuion mabe, but not at 1280x 800, ive seen benchmarks on crysis with that 9400m, no where near 35-40min fps
No, about 85% of the games I play are not made for OSX. "better hardware" you say? My custom built pc cost me 1,400$. 12G of ram, GTX 295, Core duo OC'd at 4.0 GHz. Apple has maded nothing that can compete with that. The reason why they cost so much is because Apple only owns 4.8% of the world's computer marketplace. Henceforth, Microsoft can sell their computers for cheap, since they own 95%.
obviously didnt read what i said because i said you can run ALL windows games on mac, because in OSX is Bootcamp letting you run windows then play all your NON mac compatible games on a mac
yeah true but back in those days with macs with ppc chips i agree that pc was better its now macs are just getting better than pc's for example (and this is a top of the line example) the mac pro with Two 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processors thats like a 23.44GHz processor its crazy 32GB ddr3 ram 8TB HD memory up to 4 NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB (yes i said 4) or a ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB with built in raid card and a Quad-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card its insane
True, speed wise Macs are "catching" up. 23.44GHz processor? No, doesn't exist. You may be thinking of 2.44GHz Quad or duo. 32GB ddr3? That would cost well over 2 grand for such, just for the ram alone. 4 graphic cards? How the hell can you go double SLI. I think you are misreading alot of stuff, mate. 8TB HD? The highest HD i've seen was a Western Digital 2 Terabyte.
haha i know a 23.44GHz processor doesnt exist i mean a 2.93GHz Quad core processor is equivalent to a single core 23.44GHz and everything i said is straight from the apple website go to Apple and go to store click buy and for shits and giggles make a mac pro its all true its VERY!!!! expensive but its all there (the HD is four 2TB internal HDs) personally its way to expensive for me but the quad core imacs are way more than anyone needs and they arent too expensive
As far as I see on their website, 2TB HD, 2.8 Ghz quad processor, most likely unoverclockable, Radeo HD 4850. (not bad but nowhere near best). 16G RAM (but too bad you can't upgrade from that).
You really exaggerated their products, it's nowhere near how you described it.
It is quite sad that Novell chose to drop Netware which was the best NOS I have ever used and chose to go with a version of Linux which left fewer choices than before.

There is nothing to disagree about. I said Linux updates frequently, but there isn't a official release for a skin. Only window changes skins in another version.
Linux = patches ever 2 days

Windows = Patches when every there is an upgrade

MrSpacelyy 1 year ago

LINUX = SHIT
OSX FTW!!!
theSPUDereHD 1 year ago
@theSPUDereHD You do realise OSX is really a variant of Linux right? They are both Unix based. OSX is just controlled by Apple as a closed source OS for distribution with their computers.
Vaughnlesterinoz 1 year ago
@Vaughnlesterinoz That's not true.. BSD variants are UNIX-based and so is systems like AIX. Linux is a UNIX-like kernel, which means it's more or less the same user-experience, but the kernel was developed apart from UNIX. The same is true with the Mac OS
egadw 1 year ago
@Vaughnlesterinoz Actually, OSX is not a varient of Linux, and linux is not a variant of Unix. Linux was developed to be an open source mimic of Unix. Linux kernel contains none of the source code of Unix.
Mac OS X has BSD code in it, and BSD is a Unix operating system.
Linux is called Unix-like because it resembles Unix, but is NOT Unix in any way.
Mac OS X is not only Unix-like, but in fact IS Unix at its core.
I hope that clears things up! =)
blkhockeypro19 1 year ago 3
@blkhockeypro19 Plus, unlike Linux, Mac OSX is actually useful.
tangypanda 1 year ago
@tangypanda eh, linux is pretty good. A near perfect clone of unix and fully open source? sounds useful to me (from a nerdy perspective)
blkhockeypro19 5 months ago
Both Linux and Windows are big on making a GUI look shiny but the Mac OS GUI is far more usable.
It's very clean, simple and easy to use but at the same time much more efficient.
I prefer working on my Mac (still running 10.5 Leopard) to working on my windows machine running Win 7 even though I have a larger screen on the windows machine.
I haven't spend that much time using Linux but most Linux GUIs I've seen are full of features that only look nice but don't actually increase productivity.
Molo9000 1 year ago
@Molo9000 Mac always tries to make they skinn look nice. The interface is ok but its not easier then windows or kde. Because people think it's easier they use it that way. Believe me its not that special. And as for stability linux is as stable as a mac.
Try opensuse with kde looks nice productive easy and functional.
MrSpacelyy 1 year ago
@MrSpacelyy Really? How many clicks will it take you to configure Filesharing and internet sharing on a Windows computer? I can do it on OS X in exactly 4 clicks (just tried :) and in less than 4 seconds. No wizzards, no popups and annoying (please wait for ... blah blah blah).
And btw, I troubleshoot Windows computers for my clients as part of my job :), so i know Windows inside-out.

Linux = programmers

Mac = ppl looking for a computer that easy-to-use, interesting, easy to set up, and all other postives of the computerworld. but PC got more games but im tokkin bout technical things
elridero 2 years ago
In the field of animation and visual effects, most high end software, such as AutoDesk Maya, Softimage XSI and Apple Shake, is available for Linux.
In the film industry, Linux has been the platform of choice for several years. The first major film produced on Linux servers was Titanic in 1997. Since then major studios like Dreamworks Animation, Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic have moved to Linux. ...95% of the servers and desktops at large animation and visual effects companies use Linux.

@elridero Linux = programmers?
man, i do every common thing somebody does in windows or mac, with my linux. (multimedia, play games, office and everything else.) Never needed to program anything.
Linux has many distros, some good for server, some good for programmers and some good for end-users .. please, don't generalize.

all a mac hater in the end reveals is that hes a cheapskate and wont spend money as an investment. again if they weret expensive you would have no point. Youre becoming redundant. I have both you arent convincing me of anything.
Dont bug me again: buh bye.
vintagevic1 1 year ago
then you should ad less specs available if you are "technical"
Andr3icK 2 years ago
^^^^^ Thanks to show the stereotype ^^^^^
Linux is sometimes difficult but guess what, any idiot can use a computer, many do.
PC = People who have an average budget and want to play games: it has whatever a normal person (not a idiot) would want to do.
Mac = People who don't mind spending a lot for quality and ease of use, I actually like Mac, but the advanced options, limited
Linux = People who don't mind working a bit to get it running, then you can do whatever you want, even gaming
aktechfreak 2 years ago 5
PC is way better than Mac. First of all, you don't have to buy into Apple's Monopoly. Second, you have better hardware at lower costs. Third, more games and software. Fourth, Mac OS X sucks.
KevKo95 2 years ago
@KevKo95 pc's sux osx works just fine. Its pc-ites that have an unfounded attitude against macs: and thats all it is: attitude.
I guess its competition you dont like either.
Pc's are fine so long as you have a repair guy on hand when you crash and burn as often as you do. Oh yea I guess you dont mind getting the bug often either. There are plenty of pc terrorists out there waiting to prey on your mac hate; have at it !
vintagevic1 2 years ago
@vintagevic1 Mac's are pc's to, pc does not mean windows.
marcusrehn 2 years ago
@vintagevic1 stop talking ur making urself look dumb we dont need a repair guy my pc has never crashed and i payed half as much as u did but i got better hardware
xXJeReMiAhXx99 1 year ago
@xXJeReMiAhXx99
Macs are better they have total advantage over PC's. Whatever brings your vile hate out over such trivial nonsense is why youre a pc lover.
Macs are simple to use, you dont have to be a programmer to operate one like you do a pc: nuff sed. I have both I know.
macs dont interface with some pc programs, but so what.
most macs are owned for the graphics. I own mine for its ease of use and i never have to call anyone to fix it.
if they werent expensive you would have no point.
vintagevic1 1 year ago
@vintagevic1 wow dude "you dont have to be a programmer to operate one like you do a pc" lol a pc is so simple to use idk how anyone could say u have to be a programmer maybe ur just slow? i dont know any programming and i never had to call anyone to fix anything my 7 year old brother was using one when he was 3 so u are either dumber then a 3 year old or ur statement is false
xXJeReMiAhXx99 1 year ago
@xXJeReMiAhXx99 BS.Mac people have macs because of 1) graphics 2) ease of use.
you dont happen to like either apparently.
I have both so please go howl at the moon, you stand a better chance of getting your argument across.
vintagevic1 1 year ago
@vintagevic1 no not bs it's true anyway i do like ease of use and pcs are easy to use and better grahpics what are u talking about the way the os looks lol? if so then know i dont care too much i would never spend more then a few more bucks for that let alone another $500
xXJeReMiAhXx99 1 year ago
the same games actually because you can run windows aswel as OSX on a mac plus mac has higher costs because it has better hardware and software .. and buying into apples monopoly ??? ... your entire comment is bullshit
phynyte 2 years ago
Mac DOESN'T have better hardware than a PC, most PCs. With Mac, you're limited to Apple's shitty underpowered hardware. With PC, you can have any hardware you want.
You might be able to play games like Crysis on your Mac at about 1 FPS.
KevKo95 2 years ago
you are obviously another one of the ignorant people that have no idea about a Mac yet pretend to know everything about it. I Have crysis on my macbook (the Cheapest mac you can get !!) and it runs at MINIMUM 35-40 FPS so get your facts right before you talk shit ...
phynyte 2 years ago
lol, the Mac mini is the cheapest you can get moron.
My PC can blow any Mac out of the water.
KevKo95 2 years ago
no thats bs? mabe on low settings and lower resoultuion mabe, but not at 1280x 800, ive seen benchmarks on crysis with that 9400m, no where near 35-40min fps
steven4570 1 year ago
@phynyte what are u playing at the lowest settings and ress inside a house lol?
xXJeReMiAhXx99 1 year ago
@phynyte
Cowbelltheoneandonly 2 years ago
obviously didnt read what i said because i said you can run ALL windows games on mac, because in OSX is Bootcamp letting you run windows then play all your NON mac compatible games on a mac
phynyte 2 years ago
@phynyte
well, not all Macs are compatible with Bootcamp. Only Macs with Intel processors can. And many people still have Macs with ppc processors.
Cowbelltheoneandonly 2 years ago
yeah true but back in those days with macs with ppc chips i agree that pc was better its now macs are just getting better than pc's for example (and this is a top of the line example) the mac pro with Two 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processors thats like a 23.44GHz processor its crazy 32GB ddr3 ram 8TB HD memory up to 4 NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB (yes i said 4) or a ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB with built in raid card and a Quad-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card its insane
phynyte 2 years ago
True, speed wise Macs are "catching" up. 23.44GHz processor? No, doesn't exist. You may be thinking of 2.44GHz Quad or duo. 32GB ddr3? That would cost well over 2 grand for such, just for the ram alone. 4 graphic cards? How the hell can you go double SLI. I think you are misreading alot of stuff, mate. 8TB HD? The highest HD i've seen was a Western Digital 2 Terabyte.
Cowbelltheoneandonly 2 years ago
haha i know a 23.44GHz processor doesnt exist i mean a 2.93GHz Quad core processor is equivalent to a single core 23.44GHz and everything i said is straight from the apple website go to Apple and go to store click buy and for shits and giggles make a mac pro its all true its VERY!!!! expensive but its all there (the HD is four 2TB internal HDs) personally its way to expensive for me but the quad core imacs are way more than anyone needs and they arent too expensive
phynyte 2 years ago
As far as I see on their website, 2TB HD, 2.8 Ghz quad processor, most likely unoverclockable, Radeo HD 4850. (not bad but nowhere near best). 16G RAM (but too bad you can't upgrade from that).
You really exaggerated their products, it's nowhere near how you described it.
