My mom used to sing us this song on rainy days, and I always think of it now when it rains. I don't even remember seeing this on Sesame Street, but I have always known the song!
Oh wow. It's raining here this morning and usually when it rains I get this in my head, but I could only remember the line "rain for the forests, millions of thirsty roots." So I decided to Google that lyric and my God I found it! Now I can have the whole song in my head.
I wish it only rained at NIGHT. That way, we could enjoy the outdoors even with all the rain. When it rains where I live (Saskatchewan), it stays. Not like the British Isles or the west coast - downpour one hour, sunshine the next. We do get a lot of sunshine here, though.
I LOVE this!! I remember watching this when I was 6 years old. I'm 33 now; It's raining outside and I decided to show this to my 3 year old son. Fond memories!
Every time I think of this song I remember the bus at 1:14. Gosh how I miss those times and the soft padded cushiony seats that those buses had! xD LOL
This was one of my favorite Sesame Street songs when I was little. I'm pretty sure I used to annoy the crap out of my mom, singing it all the time. :)
i used to sing this to my 26 year old! it's pouring out and this just popped into my head!! i used to change the words to this because he was born in 1984. ( i'm 56 , so some things are still are classic!) LONG live sesame st! thanks so much for having this.

@laro816 I understand that completely. My mother would have been 52 this year and I'm 30. Even when I was 14 or so and had long outgrown the show she would still sing this to me anytime it rained.
This is a classic! I remember singing this song like it was on the Billboard Charts! I teach this one to my students and they LOVE it! I know times have "changed" but for some reason quality always lasts!
This is my FAVORITE Sesame Street song. I love it, but could not remember all the words since I haven't seen it in over 25 years! THANK YOU for posting it. You made my day :)
Thank you for posting this song. I sang this to my son 25 years ago and still would if he'd let me! lol Sesame Street also did " I Had A Rooster" which I would also sing to him. It would be great if someone posted it.
I grew up with this song. This song and other songs like "Starfish" and Joe Raposo's instrumentals surely reflect my younger life, and the rest of my life up until now for that matter. These songs make me feel as if... "where does the time go" ...depressing feeling...
If this premiered in 1982, then I saw it when I was a year and a half old for the first time but it makes me think of PBS Channel 12 in Philadelphia every morning and how my mother always, always sang this song to me when it rained even when I outgrew the show.
I remember this was first shown on Episode #1697 -- on May 11, 1982. I also remember it from #2571 -- the one that began with Oscar's Subtraction Show, via his infamous bagpipe! (LOL!)
me and my younger sister use to sing this song together when i was a kid. or she would sing it to me. well yesterday my sister passed away. and among all the great memories that we had, this song came to mind. I love you sweet sister. thank you for everything. and thank you NantoVision1.
My condolences to you on your sister's passing. This song probably might have made you sad when it came to mind. I'm sure that your sister is watching over you in Heaven. God bless you, your sister and family. :)
I used to love to watch Sesame Street with my kids. This was my favorite song. I thought of it because of all the rain and flooding we've had lately. I can't believe I found it!
After I Got Off Work At The Vikking Commons At The Western Washington University I Took The Bus To The Transit Place , And I Talked With A Little Kid At Cozier Elementary School , And I Sang You Can't Stop The Rain By Loose Ends Love Scott Orvik

I'll never get tired of old Sesame Street. I'm making DVDs of these old skits for kids who want to see these kind of skits instead of what's out now.
