Hey if you love the Ox, check out the clips I found from KeenanX1 three great WHO tributes. I don't know who he is but I've never seen anybody come as close to O'l Thunder Fingers than this guy. It's great to see John's influence live on!
Thanks for posting this rare track it brings back many old memories.
According to Keith Moon's biography by Tony Fletcher, this song was written by Entwistle, Townsend and Nicky Hopkins who plays the piano on this number.
Does anybody know where I could see the rest of that cake video? Where they're all in a room and Pete and Keith are trying to break into something while Roger guards the door and John stands in the corner guzzling down cake? It's played over the tune of "Happy Jack" - is it somewhere else here on YouTube?
nope in general they simply have the better ryhtym section then the stones the stones rythym section is ok but many are better. like LZ, Sabbath and such.
@GrungeRocker1000 the stones are a good band not one of my favs, but zeppeling is simply amazing and each member is unbeleivably talented, and black sabbath is absolutly amazing aswell.
Watching John eat cake in slow motion is probably equivalent to a guy watching a girl jump up and down in slow motion. In other words...it's orgasmic.
He was nicknamed "The Ox" not for his size or his tendency to stand still during shows, but because of his strong constitution—his seeming ability to "eat, drink or do more than the rest of them."
can anyone please tell me what's the name of the track that's playing on the background???? If it's a Who tune sorry, I can't tell, I'm not very familiar with the Who's music.
@red777photo According to Keith Moon's biography by Tony Fletcher, this song was written by Entwistle, Townsend and Nicky Hopkins who plays the piano on this number.

Interesting story behind that as well... seemed it had a unique sound, attributed in part to its unique stock strings. Unfortunately, there were none of the Danelectro replacement strings available for it (at least in the UK). So when John broke a string, he wound up having to buy another whole bass to get that sound!
During the recording, he broke yet another string!
John would up buying several basses (4, I think) to make the song heard on record.
There are many great bassists but seriously. He's freakin' Thunderfingers Entwistle. He was articulate, generally amazing and the way he carried himself gave him more stage presence than moving around like Pete could have ever done for him [not saying I don't like a little moving on stage XD].
He's just my favorite bassist of all time. The Who had, in my opinion, two of the best in their instruments; Keith Moon and John Entwistle. I mean, come on, My Generation? Best bass solo ever played-- but that's just one guy's opinion. Speak up if you agree or otherwise.
Amazing anarchic sounding stuff for 1965. Townshend's last few guitar licks sound very similar to Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile solo from several years later.
