Fantastic! Check out my Dad's site .Winston271001 He wrote the song "Teensville" off Chet's self -titled album "Teensville" Along with The Slop, also written by my Dad "Wayne Cogswell
We all have grown up with some music in our heads, our hearts, on our lips. We get old one day, and look back. I get sad sometimes when I realize and understand that these heros of mine are gone---I wish I could have known them, cut their firewood, mowed their grass, just for the favor of setting in their midst and hearing them play like this. Hard to find talent to even come close to replace them, and may not ever.
@packingone I think its challenging to take a clean tone and make it sound simple yet rich in melody. When I shred out saturated amps its somewhat easy to get instant gratification playing metal or rock. But when I started solo acoustic I felt naked, like a beginner learning how to play because I couldn't hide behind the distortion textures and support of other instruments in a band. Even after you learn a song its another challenge to make it come alive with conviction. Thats another feat!
Very perspective!!! If you go back to most of his videos, you'll see it's missing in all of them. It's a long story, but that's what gives him that "special" sound and perceived "unique" ability. Try it! I did!! Of course "Jerry Reed" has had a screw loose for years!! And, that's 'cause he likes his music and luven that way!!!
I had read from Paul Yandell that Jerry was very sick when this was done. No he wasnt nervous, he got over that years ago but he was ill. Why the shirt not buttoned right i dont have a clue. i dont think it meant anything except he didnt button it right. i know i have done that myself.
I just wanted to express that I find Jerry's solo to be just awesome! The way he just casually sits there, tinkers with his guitar a bit and then cues in. He kind of like dances over the piece..... amazing..... :)
Three little words -Oh what I'd give for that wonderful phrase-To hear those three little words-That's all I'd live for the rest of my days And what I feel in my heart They tell sincerely No other words can tell it half so clear-early Three little words Eight little letters Which simply mean I love you-ou And what I feel in my heart They tell sincerely No other words can tell it half so clear-early Three little words Eight little letters Which simply mean I love you Simply mean I-I love you-ou
we'll miss you amazing players. (and people wonder why i "hate" slash, buckethead, and thirty nine others of today... (no offense intended) there isn't much heart or depth anywhere in guitar today. (not trying to piss off other axe fans)
If you think Slash is overrated you just don't know guitar. Not that Slash rates himself that highly either, but he certainly does have a lot of skill and some fantastic melodic ideas. Whether or not you like that kind of music is of course a matter of taste, but failing to see the great guitarist for what he is makes you sound ignorant.
Oh, I see now that you're a country fan. That explains everything. Sorry to trouble you.
HarpDogAustralia: I'm actually a huge fan of rock, blues, jazz and country--not just country. I'm a huge fan of Reb Beach, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, etc. However, Slash is still very overrated...not bad, just overrated. He seems to not know when to rest a bit...it's like he doesn't play with feeling for the most part. If you want truly great guitarists, other than those in this video, check out Brad Paisley, Danny Gatton, Pete Ham (Badfinger), Melvin Taylor, Merle Travis, etc.
Forget about what you are a fan of for a minute and look at his playing for what it is rather than what you like. If you do you will see that he is skilled and talented, whether or not you like what he plays is another topic altogether. Peace.
I know what you mean. But your words are not true. Slash and many other players today have a lot of heart in their playing! To say, there is no player with feeling today is bulshit. Of course, there'll never be another Chet atkins oder Jerry Reed, but a lot of other great players!
Knew I'd heard this before, check out "retrolux's" post of Chet & Jerry doing this on TNN's American Music Shop program. Pat's harmonica is missing but Mark O'connor's fiddle fills in pretty good, lol. I still like Pat's harmonica...made my ears smile.
That was funny Chet missing the intro, and these two never fail to amaze me. If Jerry wasn't 100%, he's still wayyyyyy ahead of most of us. And Pat, always in the background with that Fender, suddenly breaking loose on that mouth harp.....amazing. He must REALLY miss playing with Chet and Jerry. I can't imagine. Thanks for preserving this, I used to watch these guys on American Music Workshops...miss them. That was REAL music.
No he wasn't drunk, he was nervous...I was there! Shirt unbuttoned because he had gained some weight. Nervous because he did not like to play guitar in front of an audiuence especially Chet Atkins who was his idol. He did this to promote an album they did together.
Harmonica player is Pat Bergeson who now lives in Nashville.
yeah, i was wonderin about his dishoveled look too? But how could he have been nervous when he used to play all those performances with Chet in the 70's, Chet even produced one of his albums too?
would have loved to see jerry garcia pick with these guys...

Is that Jerry Reed's son? Cause I've heard him in some songs but never seen him.

@636117 I've heard Jerry Reed sing "Take it son" so I thought so
coollein 2 years ago
@coollein No, that's not Jerry's actual son. It's a Southern trait, to refer to close friends as "son".

@636117 I'm from Sweden and the southest part is pretty north too =) so I didn't know that, but thx anyway

Forget? Jerry Reed was a ridiculously good guitarist, and everyone knew it!

Kids today just don't get it. They think all guitar has to be played loud and that's all it takes.
These two had real talent
It looked like a screw was missing from Jerry's bridge.

that used to be where the volume contol was but Jerry moved it

Slash's playing is very heartfelt.
The guitar is definitely an extension of his soul.
Listen to the solos in "November Rain" and tell me those don't have heart or depth.
BulletWithYerName 3 years ago
elletsco: I know how you feel! Also, Slash is so overrated and I just stand Buckethead!
Currently, however, I'm quite a Brad Paisley fan--he's a great guitarist...which seems to be a shock with how mainstream in country he is!
