  • Brilliant.

  • great! my life in the 90's!

  • Stop typing..and just LISTEN !

  • So much race discussion, and it all started with some silly ass, offended, insecure git working herself over hearing that this music style has limited appeal to blacks, just because SHE (me me me) does happen to like it. So she tries to suggest it is just as popular with black people as with whites. Folks, how many times do you see groups of blacks sitting together, playing BRITISH FUCKING SHOEGAZE? It is not racist to point out simple facts.

  • Too bad we ended up with real hateful racists (including the "we're all from Africa" hypocrites), but they wouldn't have had to it wasn't for the pathetic, wolf-crying, offended lying ass by the name of Cherry-Blossom...who gets offended not once, but twice over a simple fact. Talking about this band as if they're Radiohead, or some rock band remotely well known enough to have a notable cross-cultural following. I'm wondering if this bitch is "black" only in her mind.

  • @xreddragonx Oops, I guess her name is "Chaotic-Blossom", not that she deserves to be called by the right name.

  • @xreddragonx STFU

  • One of the best Bands Ever!!!

  • a masterpiece!!!

  • In 1965, CIA gangster police BEAT ME BLOODY, dragged me IN CHAINS from Kennedy New York Airport! Since then I HIDE in forced jobless poverty, isolated alone in this low deadly niggertown old house

  • this is great! you guys might like Rems Floating Chandelier:)

  • WTF? Someone thinks this band is racist? They're all gay for Christ's sake. Most shoegazer bands were openly gay. It's more than OBVIOUS, this form of music is descendant from THE SMITHS. Do some research before spewing unfounded comments.

  • @beachguitar123 Meriel isn't gay.

  • @beachguitar123 what are you saying

  • omg I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

  • awesome! if you guys have the time you should give Rems Floating Chandelier a listen:)

  • Saw them live at Astoria in London 1992 along with The Boo Radleys.

  • the 90's were my best years. Sigh..............

  • GREEEAAAT song - I didn't really like British music back then (very noise rock oriented at the time), but thanks to the internet - I can hear the error of my ways! As for the comment section - Youtube by numbers isn't it?

  • What does this song mean?

  • @xXMiamiRedXx I think you need to be high to get it. Maybe they lull mental patients to sleep with it.

  • i cant see the racism here, why do people go out of their way to get offended?, and skinheads listened to reggae and soul, not racists! only the new ones who are too dumb to read a history book. go fuck yourself you lousy dumbshit cunt, learn something before proving you're a complete idiot

  • Looking forward to that point in the future in which racism becomes a really boring topic.

  • shoe gaze racist? that must be why I like it then...

  • Tune.

  • one of the few songs (groups , for that matter) that ever challenged the reign of the

    Pixies

  • A lot of people think skinhead oi bands are racist, but insiders know that shoegaze is the most racist genre.

  • @ahumancertainty fucking nonsense.....what manner of proof can you provide us with??.....

  • @ahumancertainty Ya we were!!! We totally hated Whitey!!

  • THESE GUY'S ARENT RACIST MY GOD CAN'T A WHITE PERSON WRITE SOMETHING OR CALL THERE SELVES SOMETHING AND NOT BE CALLED RACIST BESIDES THAT THESE GUYS ROCK

  • Why is a song like this out of attention today? It's very obvious that many popular bands like Oasis and Coldplay are very inspired by them. This is the roots of a lot good pop and rock songs of today. When I hear this, I want to cover this song and make a very good live recording of it. It really deserves a remake.

  • @Koen21 very much agreed! the older bands need more credit! history is just as important as the present! it's what makes the future and can you imagine what would happen if we forgot about it all? that would be a sucky world haha...

  • still sublime.

  • In Ribbons was freaking amazing... I think this song has some reference to drug addiction??

  • Why's there a race discussion here. Wrong song, unrelated. You people are what's wrong with the whole world. You see the world in terms of race and that's all the world is to you. Get counseling and stop ruining everything all the time. You're a disgrace to civilization.

  • @tigerlily1221 Move to darkest Africa, where they don't even have the words to have such a discussion, and they will have you (over?) for breakfast happily.

  • @stopglobalswarming lame. you're boring. Maybe I'm in darkest Africa. This band was one of the greatest and small minded nutcases bring their boring and unrelated garbage into the equation. Try and avoid this, you may actually have something more interesting to thing/type about. Maybe.

  • Excellent. IN RIBBONS was in heavy rotation during my early college years. Thanks for posting.

  • IN RIBBONS was in heavy rotation during my early college years. I remember the first time I heard this song. Thanks for posting.

  • Muy buena la cancion, excelente banda Pale Saints un saludo de un fanatico desde lima peru

  • oh cómo los amo, pale saints...

  • Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton

  • What's all this Shit about black sound and white sound?

British Band's always been influenced with american white music.

And Shogaze drummer has always the white funk style :)

  • this is great

  • @ USboiful: Do you know anything about music history? Rock music has it's roots in rhythm and blues, and country and western (i.e. "black music" and "white music") each of which had their roots in the traditional music brought to this country by slaves and immigrants. If it weren't for the open-minded black and white musicians who weren't afraid to learn from each other, this music wouldn't exist. Most rock musicians would laugh in your face if you called it "white people for white people".

  • Hahah. Penrod you make a good point here. Didnt bother to even look at what the other guy put. I just think its hilarious as this was the last thing I expected to see in the comment section of a pale saints video. Oh Youtube what kind of entertainment will you bring me next.

  • wow...i just discovered this...PURE AWESOMENESS!!! =) I WANT THE 90'S BACK!

  • Beginning of the 90's was great.....

  • @preliminar A good CD. I remember having this, KLF, Waterlilies, The Cranberries, and Something Happens on shuffle. Ahhh, memories.

  • We still live in a f"#*ed up society that doesn't give the same rights to everybody,

but music (and art in general) is for EVERYBODY. no matter what country, color, religion or sexual orientation.

It's just a song. Don't try to pull everybody towards your ignorance-based hate.

Your father filled your mind with stupidity but you have access to the internet: inform yourself.

Don't make a fool of yourself (too late for that,but...) and think before posting things like that.

  • USboiful, the music is made for everyone.

even for idiots like you and your "made by white people for white people" daddy. i've a friend from cape verde

    (go grab a map, i'll wait...ohhh! what a shock! it's in Africa!)

and he's the one who show me Pale Saints.

I'm Portuguese, my girlfriend is from Barcelona and we both like Pale Saints.

  • Oi whats with the bullshit here... I am white ... I love the pale saints... In fact I have loved 4ad shit for years... I do not think race or any other bullshit idea should have any bearing here... Peace

It is a nice song... makes me happy... Want to smile//

  • Also why are so many people trolling this thing? I don't see a link to 4chan.

  • I troll this thing cos I fucking like it.

  • oh, and another thing Mr 'Burning Spear', if you think anything under 80,000 views is a lot, goes to show how fucking much you know.

  • The Pale Saints need to be more Ghetto. They should sing about slinging crack on the corner and strippers swinging on a pole.... maybe their audience will grow after that. Oh yeah I forgot - drive by shootings !!!!! Those are big.

  • my comments were a reply towards billyjesusgates stupid comments. The pale Saints Kick ass. I was trying to be sarcastic.

  • Another stoopid comment from yet another stoopid person. Whaddya all think ???

  • i rather much prefer their first album with ian, that´s true music, without him it´s just shit, except this song, this is expectional

  • Ian Masters is singing in this video.

  • they are NOT racists. " PALE" of the Saints was a reference to the el Greco paintings of Saints... i suppose the White Stripes are racist too?? eejit.

  • only thing i have say is that this isn't kind of music president obama listens to. you know where i am coming from, cowboy.

  • Make an appointment to the veterinary immediately.

  • Please don't be stupid anymore.

  • what music does president obama listen to? public enemy? if i had to guess, i'd say bruce springsteen.

  • do you or do you not agree that 99.9 percent of pale saints fans are white? if so, why do you think it is? and how much of this is the responsibility of the band? i believe the pale saints must address this question.

  • I'm sorry but there's no way as many as .1 percent of Pale Saints fans are non-white

  • Wow I guess I'm not black anymore huh? lol. Not ill feelings here. I heard a joke on 89 X the other day about free radiohead tickets going out and how not a single black person was interested in that. I think its best not to assume based off of stereotypes. Many of my friends enjoy My bloody valentine, Slowdive, pale saints. Race means nothing.

  • Boo hoo hoo. If you have to pull lies out of your ass to make your point (re: your "many" black indie rock loving friends), then you've pretty much proven you don't have one. It's hard enough to find black people into more popular, mainstream rock music..and that's not a matter of "stereotyping" but of statistics. That doesn't mean there are no black fans (which NO one said), but anything more than 1 percent of an old indie band's fanbase IS a stretch.

  • I take it you are a person with very little life experience. If you base your facts off of statistics gathered by a third party then you my friend are the true idiot. Secondly if you have to pull lies out your ass to prove your point (re: your "Statistics") which I am sure don't exist then you've pretty much proven you don't have one ;) My friends listen to everything. We're all very diverse in our taste. if you'd like to come hang with us in detroit, I am sure we could enlighten you a bit.

  • Well, I would say that if you refuse any evidence gathered by third parties you are the real idiot and should never argue with anything. So, you are not allowed to talk about how electricity works, how cars move, what gravity is, and any theries of evolution because you base these off of third party research. Sorry friend, prove your research or bug off

  • I love taking about that kind of stuff....

talk about how electricity works, how cars move, what gravity is...

    The best.... Thanks friend....................

  • Welcome.

  • I could go off and tell you about my career and what it is i do for a living regarding science, and the research and self mastery I have acquired for myself through my own research and hard work, but it isn't important. To tell me to prove my research is actually stealing my argument. Someone said black people don't listen to this. I'm black. Show me proof that me and my friends don't listen to this. They couldn't because good music can appeal to numerous kinds of people.

  • What makes it so annoying is that my first post on here was so harmless and not offensive at all. And for some reason people got pissed and wanted to make an argument of it. Its truly dissappointing really. I don't see how saying: " hey, I'm black and I like this music" causes such grief and negativity. I'm kind of done with it. But I get what you mean about third party research. I'm just saying its not enough to just quote it. If you haven't proved it for yourself, then its worthless to quote.

  • @ChaoticBlossom Your habitual lying is what's "so annoying". "Im black and I like this" would have been better than your grander, absurd joke of a statement about Shoegaze's racial appeal. But thanks for destroying this comment section with your self-obsessed attention-whoring. The only music YOU deserve is the sound of ringing in your ear after a swift hard kick to it.

  • You actually suck ass!! Alot of my black friends like Pale Saints and other shoegaze bands! You are crazy ignorant!!!! Please don't reproduce!!!

  • @psychocandychain And a lot of my Chinese friends live in Igloos in the middle of the desert!! Isn't the internet a great place to claim stuff (like that you have friends?)! Please kill yourself before you become old enough to reproduce!!

  • Either way I am enjoying an awesome song. Music that many black people I know listen to. Why that requires a thumbs down or a ignorant reply? I don't know. But I'll assume that its not a reflection of pale saints or any of our other shoegaze bands and moreso that smaller portion of their fan base that just so happens to be stupid.

  • Statistics is stereotypy.

  • I think this conversation is evidence that race might mean something. Metaphysical statements are inane even if the sentiment is affirmative.

  • @USboiful a black man started rock. . . just in case you didnt know. . . people say elvis did but not true did you know he took other peoples music and called it his own look it up and the sang aint nothin but a hound dog is a cover from some black chick bet you didnt know that. and scientist traced every one from africa so shut the fuck up and enjoy the music you racist fuck

  • @birinbirinbirin "Hound Dog" was written by two WHITE guys: Lieber + Stoller.

  • N.W.A. ;-D

  • @seanotoole927 Yep, the White Stripes are racist against solid white-colored objects

  • @seanotoole927 Well, they MUST be racist! They don't have any negroes in their band.

  • @seanotoole927

White Zombies and White Sneck are

  • that is a little blinder!

  • I absolutely agree with you.

  • Good Lord. For an instant, I thought you were serious. :)

  • Absolutely brilliant song, best band in their style

  • david gilmour sure as hell doesnt suck balls.... Pink FLoyd is one hell of a band, give respect where respect is due.

hi anyone want to chat 72

  • Dman I havn't heard this song in ages. Great memories!

  • IN RIBBONS = Masterpiece of the early 90's

  • I really, really, REALLY hate it when some knuckle head says "this is the best song, artist or whatever. I mean, damn. Think of something original. Shit!

  • Love this damn tune! Saints oh yeah!

  • i have my shoegaze period, i think.

  • Do you have this once a month? :D

  • GALAXY 500

  • Absolutely not; I prefer shoegazing to the tripe that is so prevalent during these challenging times.

  • The shoegazeing brigade......gone and best forgotten.

  • I've heard that this was a cover... who was the original band that sang this song ?

  • It's not a cover

  • wot about the bridewell taxis?

  • look up these bands: the swirlies "they spent their wild youth..." all natural lemon and lime flavors "turning into small" serena maneesh bailter space "robot world" "capsul" autolux "future perfect" bark psychosis "codename dustsucker" moonshake " eva luna" the wolfhounds "attitude" flying saucer attack "distance" the dropnineteens "delawre" the Lilys "in the pressence of nothing " should the meeting places some of these are neo-shoegaze
  • Have you heard of the High Violets as well?

  • I will look them. thanks

  • Always thought that was a female lead vocal! Brilliant song reminds me of brilliant days.

  • This video made me laugh. :D

  • What was their song that had the lyric in it.."and the only one that knows you're there" called? I know that this band shared their drummer with the excellent 'Edsel Auctioneer' from Leeds.

I bought it on a cassette compilation of M/CR bands in 1990, free with BOP magazine in Manchester when I was a youngster. This issue came with a piece of he Berlin Wall, (no shit!)

  • oh shoegaze, i will love you forever.

  • One of the best songs ever written. Genius.

  • Im surprised no one mentioned Slowdive and while they were at it, The Stone Roses?

  • Exactly!!! And let's not forget The Sundays, Cocteau Twins, Spiritualized, The Chameleons, Spacemen 3, and the godfathers of shoegaze, whether anyone realizes it or not, Pink Floyd.

  • pink floyd gives me gas.

  • Is that so bad? You're speaking to someone who is lactose intolerant. My guess is that you have only listened to Pink Floyd from the 80s and beyond. Try listening to their first 4 or 5 albums. Everybody and their grandmother stole from these guys. Bowie and Robert Smith have named Syd Barrett as personal influences.

  • to each their own i guess. i've tried to like them, i really have, the whole works.

i'm suprised you don't feel the same way, being lactose intolerant, because pink floyd is just too cheesy.

    -comedic drum roll-

i'd say people need to move on from 60s and 70s rock bands but...here i am clinging to shoegazer, quite possibly the weakest music scene there ever was...but hey, home sweet home.

  • Cheesy? Maybe their post 80s material but I don't see how you can say that to anything they did in the 60s or 70s. Pink Floyd ARE the godfathers of shoegaze. Listen to their soundtrack on La Valle, or Meddle, Animals, Pipers at the Gates of Dawn. Shoegaze borrows heavily from the 60s. Listen to Ride and you will see what I mean. Shoegaze is great but it came out when grunge hit America so it didn't register. Now post-punk, you must agree -- Kraftwerk and Joy Division forever.

  • Oh definitely many bands could have been, or very likely were influenced by them, but that doesn't mean I have to like them haha. I find all of their stuff cheesy sorry, most of the rock music that came out of that whole era.

As for post-punk, Joy Division remains at the top of my desert island playlist, but how exactly do you see Kraftwerk fitting into the mix? Fathers of techno yes, but they don't share the title with mr.curtis for post-punk in any way.

  • ROFL. Pink Floyd are NOT shoegaze. They're 50% Psychedelic and 50% Progressive Rock. Neither have much of anything to do with shoegaze =p

  • Have you listened to Pink Floyd albums Meddle or Animals or the soundtrack to La Valle? The soft-spoken vocals on these albums are the foundation of the singing in shoegaze. In addition, David Gilmour's guitar riffs on these albums also have had an influence on shoegaze. Everyone who is into shoegaze can acknowledge that without difficulty.

  • I own Animals, DSOTM, and WYWH. The other two, no. But 'whispery vocals" being the foundation of shoegaze is an absurd notion. There's way more to shoegaze than that. Hell, vocals aren't even important to most shoegaze bands. That's why they're usually buried so deep in the mix in most recordings. Shoegaze is all about using distortion, reverb, feedback, and ambient noise to create an ethereal sound with no distinct melody or rhythm. Pink Floyd, on the other hand, was all about composition.

  • Shoegaze also has elements of psychadelia. Ever heard of the band Ride? Check out their first album. I think you're idea of shoegaze is limited to a few popular groups who focused only on reverb.

  • Uhhh...Ride is my favorite shoegaze band right after MBV. Also... psychedelic is a very diverse form of rock with all sorts of melodies and textures. Connecting it to shoegaze is a spotty declaration at best. Honestly, Floyd under Syd Barret nor Jefferson Airplane have much of anything to do with shoegaze.

  • Loveless by MBV is a miracle in music history but also a little overrated. Ride's first album is also classic. My point is that shoegaze has many elements to it, not just guitar reverb. The de-emphasis on the vocals of the singer is a major part and David Gilmour's voice on several Floyd albums is an example of that. Also, shoegaze is a broad category that includes some psychedelic rock like Ride (and Floyd). I never said anything about Jefferson Airplane. gabba gabba hey.

  • I'm not disagreeing with you on the point that shoegaze and psychedelic rock share some common traits. Honestly, there isn't a genre of music today that doesn't borrow from another, that's how art grows and matures. What I am disagreeing with you about is that Pink Floyd played such a huge role in inspiring bands like MBV and JMC to lay the foundations of the genre that spawned bands like Ride , Lush and Chapterhouse. I just don't believe that it's possible to include Pink Floyd under the...

  • umbrella term "shoegaze"....much less classify them as a cornerstone of the movement.

  • Being the godfather of shoegaze does not make you the master of that genre. Just like the Ramones/Stooges/Velvet were godfathers of punk, but were not the best as other bands "perfected" that genre. You are correct Floyd did not perfect the guitar reverb found in most shoegaze but they were one of the few bands at the time that got into low key vocals which is one of the most key elements of shoegaze. The term shoegaze came about when a singer was singing in low key looking down at his shoes.

  • david gilmour sucks balls

  • No, he does not.

  • i think he does i didnt have to make the last comment

  • Now that you have, you should defend it. Why does he suck balls?

  • Because he had far more time to become one of those "a little bit overrated" people than Kevin Shields?

  • But why is he overrated?

  • Some musicians are aware of Floyd, The Velvet Underground and (fill in good stuff), but then some are simply tired of the top 40 and invent sounds for themselves, without reaching back for Gilmour's, Cage's or anybody's "templates".

Just because somebody did something a long way back does not mean recent people look back and go "oh, let's take this and improve/copy/do something with it". Might be they have the same idea /again/.

  • I meant Cale, of course, not Cage. Who'd do just as well as a creator of unique sounds.

  • Arguing about genres is fucking stupid, its all just media contrived shit - forcing labels upon bands. Good music is good music, who cares what you call it.

  • The Chameleons, Comsat Angels and Joy Division don't fall up the down escalator and neither do I.

  • severely underrated band!!

  • This is the best video ever made

  • The harsh red lighting's cool. If they'd just dumped the literal (and goofy) apple imagery, it would've worked better. Lackluster video for an amazing song. Really, the song's incredible.

  • So cool....my fave Pale Saints tune and one of my top Shoegaze songs ever....

  • Oh itaguineapig a know! thats wot pisses mf! its not a thing of the past music is timeless and bands like saints, ride,THE CHARLATANS ought tobe a influence on todays music. 4 that reason. its time shoegaze ROSES again!

  • I really like Shoegaze and I want to like this band, but I just can't.

  • my favorite song at the mo! fuckin brilliant! why or why arent bands making dreamy structures like this nomore? and why do i pull my hair out all day when i have to here fuckin rubbish like hoosiers and the fray and delihi shit if have hear that fuckin song 1 more time!

  • Oh modsheff, a thousand times over i have said those very words. So many good dreamy and poppy bands, but most are sadly a thing of the past!

if you do a lot of searching though theres still a lot of good stuff around, you just got to sniff.

  • IN RIBBONS album is a masterpiece of the early 90's , Thanx !

  • dumb video,but i love this song

  • Great song, but they had to have apples in the video?!

  • Druggy! Damn, I love these guys!!! Get back together Pale Saints, God Damn It! Those apples look like testes...sorry... "bollocks". Muy props to the poster (as the rest have said.)

  • Wooow, I even haven´t known that there is a video existing for this wonderful song. Thanks for uploading it.

  • ohhhh my god! thanks for this song

  • one of my favorite songs..

  • I've had this CD since 1992 abd have listened to it all these years. This is the first time I ever saw the video. Thank you!

  • omg i had their stuff on vinyl - great to hear them again!

  • Great song. Underappreciated band.

  • So awesome...one of my fave songs....

  • Really great song... thanks for posting.

  • in over a decade I have and never will get enough of this fine song and video.

  • WOW I thought I would never ever ever see this video again. "In ribbons" is by far my favorite CD and this song has been on a mental loop in my head for the last 10 years. Thanks so much for posting!

  • i'm so 100% with you

  • Fuck yes!!!!

    This is such
