I was a student at UNO (Elec Eng) and had taken my wife to Crossroads to get some shoes. We watch this tornado coming at us as it crossed 76th and Pacific, and took shelter downstairs in Crossroads underground receiving docks. In 5 min it had passed. Our car was OK, as it had crossed 72nd to the East and wrecked Wolf Bros clothing, the Town Huse motel and other businesses over there. I was also in NE Army Natl Guard, and had to perform guard duty for 3 days in Benson to discourage looting.
@buffsuck u suck, theres a lot of shit to do in omaha. theres qwest center, old market, rosenblatt (soon to be R.I.P), one of the best zoos in america, and ur saying omahas lame. u dont know at ur missing. even though i live 36 miles away, its a great city.
i had to clean up that dang storm that left a buttload of damage and at the site were you put all the trees that fell down there was a line for about 1 1/2 miles it was crazy
Haha .. I was hoping to see him cover the tornado that hit us (Millard area) this morning .. but only KETV was covering it at 2.30AM. I wish Jim would move to KETV. They need to get rid of Bill .. he cut me off in the grocery store. Jerk.
I remember this one. I was 11, and in the basement of my parent's house, tracked the storm on a city map. I can only imagine what my mom felt as it distroyed the warehouse across the street from where my dad was working at the time. To make things worse, there were a couple of intersection sitings in the Bensen area. If you connected the dots, my grandfather's house was in the middle, and was one of the homes distroyed. It was after midnight when we found out all the family members survived
was this the '71 tornado? if so my mom was workin at bergan (the hospital they showed) and had to pull out all of the patients from the rooms and put them in the hallway.. her friends car was thrown a couple hundred feet... hella scary...this is the one thing im so afraid of... this happening again in omaha.
During that time, it was the most costly storm ever to hit anywhere in the U.S.
IT actualluy started in the far southwest corner of Douglas county, and went northeast and then straight down North on 72nd street to finally end near 69th and Military streets. Lots of devastation left in it's path.
I was there. Most of the destruction was along 72nd Street, from Center to Blondo. I lived at 75th near Pacific, and several homes on our street were destroyed.
I prefer the older silent footage like this. No wind blowing on the microphone noise or "yahoo" chasers yelling obnoxiously throughout the whole video. And there's just something about the look of movie film that video just can't compare. So thanks for uploading this.
Another top rating, AC :), I think that the silence somewhat captures the shock and numbness that alot of people must have or do feel, when something as tragic as a killer tornado tears through any town or city.
Thank you for uploading this and I look forward to more of your videos :) Willie

Agreed. If Jim Flowers was around to battle this storm, there would have been no storm.
Thank GOD we have Jim Flowers on our side these days.
