  • Love it! Memories of high school ...

  • YESSSSSSSS LUV IT

  • Recently I watched a show from a couple of years back where British comedian Justin Lee Collins tries to reunite the cast of Fame. As part of the show he interviews Erica Gimpel (Coco) who tells the story about a woman who was planning to commit suicide. The woman saw this song performed on the tv show and was so inspired that she decided not to commit suicide, and she wrote a letter to the producers of the show thanking them.

  • poor Dominique Dunne.

  • I was a child and FAME is in my heart, now I'm 40 years old and still a fan!!! Willeke from Holland

  • This song is wonderful, and the dancing is phenomenal - though it's a little sad, considering the message of the song, and the girl that plays the street kid is Dominique Dunne who was murdered not long after this was filmed. R.I.P. Dominique.

  • I've seen many dancers in my life time and Debbie Allen hands down might the best I've ever seen. I agree with the comment above that she is larger than life when she moves and I mean who the hell can do a high kick like that other than maybe Chita Rivera. Debbie is really otherworldly. Ahhhhhh 'Fame'. Love it!

  • This song makes me want to cry.

  • Was this from the film version of Fame or the T.V. series?

  • @johnny10301968 The T.V. Series.

  • @johnny10301968 This was from FAME the TV series.

  • I love seeing Michael dance. Debbie Allen was great. The singing doesn't stand the test of time but it was fun to watch.

  • @mdafalls That's because the show was cast realistically, unlike something like Glee. It's very rare in musical theatre to find a true "triple threat" someone who dances like Debbie Allen, sings like Irene Cara, and acts like Meril Streep. So, Fame was cast with an eye towards what the characters were going to spend the most time doing. A lot of the "drama" on Fame involved "Cocoa" so they needed someone that could pass as a dancer/singer, but was primarily and actor, Erica Gimpel. And so on.

  • I love seeing Michael dance. Debbie Allen was great. The singing doesn't stand the test of time but it was fun to watch.

  • DEBBIE ALLEN! Breathless and flawless! And I loved Michael! There is such a beauty in being able to move so gracefully, like water flowing downstream. Oh, to be able to dance like that!

  • Glee has NOTHING on this, the original!

  • @TraffordReds9 You are so right.Super!

  • @TraffordReds9 like everything these days...poor carbon copies :-(

  • Thanks for posting this. It's a great Rick Springfield song done so well.

  • great song I bought the album later what songs they sung on that t.v.series

  • woah, that is Dominique Dunne. I forgot that she appeared on this show. What a shame. I always hate seeing her Poltergeist character just disappear as though she was never there on the 2nd movie. And... Yeah, Rick Springfield wrote this, from his 1976 Wait for Night record.

  • @imarkley Dominque Dunne also appeared on an episode of Hill Street Blues as a victim of domestic violence, with REAL BRUISES. poor child. so sad.

  • hey any chance of: FAME (A VERY SPECIAL PLACE)??? love your work thanks xxx

  • Carlo Imperato doesn't have a perfect voice but who cares?

  • @iw32 Right??? And anyway, I think he kinda has a white soul thing going on a bit here. He was a cutie.

  • Thank you for this. RIP Dominique Dunne

  • @sherrybsings

Did you ever find? I at one time had the SATB copy of this from when my 7th grade choir performed it (way back when it was on this show). I might still have it.

  • Amazing!!!

  • Check my girl Debbie showin-out!!!Take it easy on them youngsters baby!

  • great song!! (L)

  • AAAAHHHHH!!!!!! Thanks so much for posting!!!! We sang this in high school chorus back in the late 80s....Have not heard it since....this is my first time hearing the original

  • I did not know they did this was on fame! I remember when I was very little I would watch the middle school students performing this.

    Beautiful....

  • im singing this solo bit!

  • Hi there,

I really love the clips you put on here - its so nice to remember this great show and these great songs.

Do you by chance have the "dance-off" number between Debbie Allen and Donna McKechnie (who played Holly's mother)? that was a fantastic dance number.

    Keep up the good work!

  • God I miss the 80's I loved this show it was amazing and Debbie Allen was just fantastic!

  • watching these clips it is so uplifting and a great time i used to have watching these and taking dance. now with a new generation i watch i notice how much i miss this. i love the new stuff, but these techniques don't seem to be as much any more. it is all new. more down instead of pressed up, etc. to me, this is timeless. i know things change though. this was just my era of being a teen.

  • Debbie Allen shows that you don't have to be tall to be an amazing dancer that fills a room with emotion. she is as tiny as a minute here and she just fills it with her larger than life presence. Sabra sort of reminded me of her on SYTYCD. i absolutely love Debbie Allen and she is mult-talented. she lives and breathes the arts.

  • Do you know who wrote this awesome song? Rick Springfield!

  • Yep it's from his album Wait For Night 1976

    Good song !

  • Yes, this episode of "Fame" was when I first became aware of actress Dominique Dunne...then I saw her in "Poltergeist" and later that same year she was murdered....major, major loss. She was such a great person and would have been a major star had she lived.

  • love the song it is perfect for a contemporary church choir. So glad dominique was there perfect song for her new life!

  • That would make a good church song. In my opinion it says what Jesus has done for us. He gives us a reason to celebrate. I'm glad this video was posted.

  • ı love fame .. ı love music... ı love dance... ı love erica gimpelll.. ı love guily

  • Amazing Talent & so much Hope in this song ,We love All Love Fame

  • This song was written by Rick Springfield. Yes, that Rick Springfield.

  • Springfield wrote this gem of a song WOW!!!

  • WOW, we learn something new every day

  • Nothing to say. Beautifull song, dance. Just great.

  • wow..where was gene anthoney ray?the black guy with the braids? The other guy was doing all the dancing, he was good though! I liked him too! The girl sitting on the side with the black hair was actress Dominique Dunne, who was years later murdered, may she rest in peace. she played in poltergeist. Boy Debbie Allen could really dance!
