  • Finding your "Why" is an admirable search, but don't forget to live your life in the process.

Too many great minds have been lost due to decades asking only "Why" when there are so many other questions to be asked.

  • @AngelaJKerns Why would you say that? Just kidding. Why is a question old men ask when all else is done. I understand the why now , so i look only for what today brings. Thanks . :)

  • If we stop focusing on "why" and truly understand "how" we come into existence, then you will see that "why" is an opinion. Its like asking what is art?, each individual will have a different answer. Why is irrelevent, what matters is how you live your own life.

  • That was a good answer for a rational mind . Why do you think this way?

  • ... but is it not equally important to understand "how" I think this way?

Only when we understand how things work can we accurately surmise towards a why. When we understand how then I feel that why will be blindingly obvious, until then, is it not true that all we can do is guess?

  • Now you ae thinking too much.

    Have you ever gambled ?

  • No, Im not much of a gambler, the occasional attempt at the lottery is all I go for.

As far as thinking too much ... I think that's an unfair comment given that this is possibly the most important opinion a person could have. I believe in educating people and letting them make their own mind up. The problem is that the education system is failing (in most countries).

  • You are absolutly right with this statment.

It is a complament to have someone say that you think to much.

You know how the lottery works but why is the lottery? Playing cards is has much an art as a game of chance. There are only so many cards in a deck , Watch out for the jokers.

  • 1a. Interesting video. I've noticed in the comments you lost your son. Sorry to hear it. I think the why of life is something only you can answer for your own life. You asked "TheAist", "What meaning do you have for your life?" It's an interesting question because it asks if TheAist has a meaning. Some people never get one, though they search. Some decide to allow others to define their life, like the religious. I don't think it fair, your...

  • 2a. ...description of the atheist. Atheism only addresses the lack of theism, or lack of belief in a God or Gods. Spirituality is sometimes difficult to "pin down" as some think they are spiritual though they don't think it requires an imortal soul. Theists and Atheist share something in that they both must live in the real world. But the theist tries to prepare for the non-world. Not all of either tries to foist their views on others, though many do. To the lion, the gazelle is a pleasure...

Some may say I serve the circle of life, but I don't; I'm just part of the cycle. My purpose is to serve my life. i.e., do what needs to be done to maintain it. What makes life worth living is determined by how I view my place in the world. I don't agree with XOmniverse' assertion that ethics are nonexistent to people like me....

  • 4a. ...I don't regard ethics as existing outside the context of science. Right and wrong do exist, in simplest terms, as for, or against, your life, and then, in varying degrees and in various levels of complexity, in your multitude of relations with people, nature, society, and the universe. The why can sometimes reflect on the how of life. Some end their life because they're not satisfied with the why. Some, when the time comes to make that choice between life and death, decide the...

  • Damn these 500 characters thing. You said alot . There is no why without the asker. You are right that we must each find our own why. Gods why will take care of its self.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Enjoy finding your whys.

  • Science is a specific application of logic within a certain context. It's very useful, but too many people conflate science with logic itself and reject logical thinking altogether.

This leads them to the conclusion that all areas of thinking that are outside the context of science (such as ethics) are simply non-existent. Scientism is essentially nihilism masking itself as a reasonable approach to living.

  • You have an interesting Mind.

    Very good response .

    Thank you for your input.

  • my comment is missing, so...in response to your comment, i do not believe nothing comes from nothing, thats retarded. and its a strawman argument on your part. if you believe god createdthe universe, than you are the one who believes he made things out of nothing.

i believe the universe has always existed. no 1st cause. everything has a cause..infinitum.

please dont place your misconceptions on me :)

starlight takes longer to get here than creation lends. if u know physics, its not very well

  • This still doesn't answer; Why is life? What meaning do you have for your life. Is it to persue your own desires f the rest of the world or is it just to attack those that see things in a differant way?

Religious people think everyone should agree with them or go to hell. Atheists blind themselves to the spirtual nature of things. Both try to force their beliefs or lack of beliefs on each other. Both are wrong.

  • im not forcing my beliefs on anyone. i also think you would be hard pressed to say mu world view is "fuck the world". it seems to me, by what u say, that you dont understand my position at all. several times you have projected your misconception as what i think. i dont think any of those things.

the why of life? to consume and procreate.the why of life is to live. we are the consciousness of the universe made aware of itself. nothing mystical about that. im not blind to anything, showme a spirit

  • That was the most intelagant thing you have stated about this subject.

    Stay Free. Pease.

  • The hardest thing to swallow is if the answer turns out to be "that's a stupid question", or, perhaps a bit less abrasively, "sorry, but there is no answer to that question". It doesn't happen all the time, but more often than we would like it to. ;-)

  • interesting comment.

    Thanks for your remark

  • My pleasure. Nice video.

  • why??? my brother asked this alot before his untimely death...at age 27......11:11 p.m. r.i.p BELL

  • My son died at age 16 and I still am looking for the Why.

Life must have a meaning or it is all for nothing.

  • thanks for the response. I appreciate seeing a face to the name.

I have to disagree tho. Science answers all kinds of "whys"

it doesnt answer every why, just like it doesnt answer every how, who, when or whatever. But it certainly answers many many whys.

why do things fall down? gravity

    why do organisms eat? hunger

why do look like we do? Genetics

why do we do what we do? psychology

science is all encompassing & not restricted by dogma or taboo.

i hope this helps you understand.

  • You are funny. I have been a student of Phisics sense before you were born. You have your why mixed up. You know how the apple falls and what causes it but the Why is so the fruit will be ate. The what is gravity. They do not know what gravity is, only what it does. Why? Another Law you forget is nothing comes from nothing.

You believe everything comes from nothing. LOL.

  • Yes that Man I learned this from was a wise man. I learned alot from him.

  • a wise man indeed.
