@coloraturajoy I think it is not 100 percent sure, according to the sources.
The respected Grove Music Dictionary online says:
"Alcina.
Opera in three acts by GEORGE FRIDERIC HANDEL to an anonymous libretto after Cantos vi and vii of LUDOVICO ARIOSTO’s Orlando furioso, adapted from the libretto for Riccardo Broschi’s L’isola di Alcina (1728, Rome)...."
The Oxford Companion to Music...
"Alcina. Opera in three acts by Handel to an anonymous libretto after Ariosto's Orlando furioso..."
Finally a soprano who not only sings beautifully, but one can also understand the text she's singing! I enjoy the "clean-cut" of her voice - not breathy, and wonderfully focused. Thank You, Adriana!
I don't know if Handel actually wrote the "da capo"...but i don't think he did...so my question is: Why her "da capo" is exactly like the one of Natalie Dessey in the performance with W.Christie?
Adriana Kucerova, pride of Slovak opera, crystal clear sopran and soul of an angel, lovely girl, humble and typicaly pretty for Slovakia :-) anything else you need to know? :-)
Wow! Great performance of this aria. I must say though, her ornamentation of the "da capo" section is almost identical to Dessay's rendition, so I'm wondering if it was copied from one of her recordings or if it was composed by the same person at one point or another? She forgoes the [crazily amazing] cadenza Dessay used to do, so maybe it's just coincidence or something!
BRAVI sia cantante che orchestra. specialmente il tempo è PERFETTO. queste arie se fatte troppo veloci (come di moda oggi) risultano ridicole. BRAVI SLOVACCHI. HANDEL ne sarebbe contento.
Tempo is all right. To the people in 1735 this might have been fast enough - they didn´t have speed-metal back then you know! Ana Adriana is just lovely in every way!
VonDali I think you need some serious mental treatment.
But anyway, it is really stunning to hear the perfection of Kucerova's singing and pronunciation. The more I discover about her and her work, the more I am convinced she is a true Gift of God.
Interesting note, I absolutely dissagree. Here is an english translation of the text, in my opinion the singer's looks, articulation and shaping of the music and words is optimal and brings out the character of the aria very well. "Return to me to languish, Only you, dear one, this soul wants to love. I already gave you my heart, I trust you will be my love, But will you be cruel to me, My dear hope?" Well done, Adriana!
dear pannonicus, I just wanted to correct the translation - I do not know why the English text is always translated wrong. In Italian it says - I already gave you my heart, my love will be true, I will never be cruel to you!
I also find that she looks a little too cheeky/childish and 'disinvolved'.. the expression could be a bit more loving-languishing..but the tempo I do not find too slow, this is Haendel after all.
Great orchestra, Adriana's voice is a little "harder" than Sandrine Piau's or Natalie Dessay's and of course doesn't get close to Joan Sutherland. Excellent singing though and a very enjoyable.
Why can't Czechs stop stealing everything that they like? What is wrong with them? Did you actually know that the whole lot of musicians including Adriana are from Slovakia? Obviously not, typicaly ignorant
I love her ornaments. I am totally stealing them!

Not with period instruments apparently, it just doesn't sound right, plus it's an opera, what's with the microphone?
JAYJAY1000000 2 years ago
do you know new recording techniques without using microphones? wow! i assume you are a future nobel prize winner... :-)

Obviously you are the nobel prize winner; have you ever noticed in a staged live opera, that singers are not actually singing into microphones?
You're probably just more used to this mass-market type of production
