Those who complain about Max Payne 3 being set in Brazil either haven't watched, or completely forgotten about Man on Fire. That movie was closer to a true Max Payne film than the actual Max Payne movie itself. Funny, the first time I watched Man on Fire, I immediately imagined Max Payne 3 to be something similar to that movie, and that was years before Max Payne 3 was even announced.

Man on Fire was a kickass movie, and if Max Payne 3 is anything similar, I look forward to it.

Now, I know, Man on Fire was set in Mexico and not Brazil, but both places are just as crime ridden, officials just as corrupt as each other, so there isn't that much of a difference. From what I'd read so far of what Rockstar was willing to reveal about the plot, Max would start off working as a bodyguard, just as Creasy was in MoF.

What my point boils down to is this, MoF has proven that even "sunny" locales can be made dark and gritty. The darkness is in the emotions, not the locale.
