  • Damn this song is awesome, arent the two main singers from tigers on trains

  • awesome song!!

  • I got tricked into watching this because someone put it up as a new brand new song also.. but I came for BrandNew and stayed for Republic of wolves

  • @fatmatioonm I love Brand New AND Republic of Wolves! Brand New is the reason I found this band...

  • Damn, why not the banjo outro? :(

  • I honestly love when their keyboardist goes all out screaming at the end. The way he screams coupled with the type of music that's playing just blows my mind every time... Some of the most emotional screaming I've heard IMO.

  • What religious background do the they have? I'm just curious. They have a pretty awesome/unique sound.

  • Jesse Lacey, whaaaaa?

  • tottally new to this band... and love brand new... whats the relation between the two?

  • @FusionCoreConfusion Republic of Wolves have a similar sound.

  • @FusionCoreConfusion

the only thing I can think of is that they're from the same area...at least New York.

  • @FusionCoreConfusion The similar sound, and also, a couple years back. A couple of TROW songs were leaked AS Brand New demo's. That actually how this band got a lot of their exposure. I don't know the full story but you can still find a video on here calling this 'new' Brand New song "The Old Tree" but in reality it's a TROW song.

  • the final screaming is pure GENIUS

  • swag swag swag swag

  • I accidentally found this band. I now love them. Thanks to people mistitling songs =D

  • @Earthy182 I randomly found the band aswell, ha, they're great..

  • I'm friends with the kid in the video, Rob, and he actually can swim. gotem.

  • I fucking love The Republic of Wolves. I've listened to Varuna at least 100 times over, and it's one of my favorite albums of all times. Yet, I have never watched this video. I don't want to. I'm afraid that if I watch it it will be the only thing I can think of when I listen to the song, as I already have my idea of what the song is about and certain imagery in my head to go along with it.

  • haha silly black man... swimmings for white people

  • Brand New most definitely have actual talent, Deja Entendu and The Devil and God are masterpieces. I'm listening to this for the first time and really enjoying it too.

  • Why does the video leave out the end of the song when he says "I am not welcome in this house I built" ?

  • it's funny because black people can't swim

  • can people not just like brand new AND republic of wolves?

  • @fatmarioonm its tough man, its like enjoying broccoli and cauliflower .... you almost have to pick one! ...cough ...brand new ...cough...

  • This song is easily as good as anything Brand New has released...

  • hope these guys come to the uk soon!! varuna is easily the best album i've bought so far this year

  • MR. CHRISTIAN!!!

  • Fun fact that is the same cupboard that was used in "Indian in the Cupboard."

  • Holy. Fucking. Shit. This was one of the most intensely satisfying musical experiences of my life. The end.

  • <3 the screams.

  • republic of wolves>brand new hands down, they sound alike but row is so much fucking better, actual talent

  • @hxcdanny3x Brand New also have actual talent. Both bands do.

  • @hxcdanny3x Brand New has talent, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten to where they were and you wouldn't be enjoying Republic.

  • @theoarsman18 they were good for what they were trying to do, brand new that is, didnt like anything theyve done after deja though, so i may be bias

  • Watching this now reminds me that I still can't play DCU Online. MISS YOU WORLDIN

  • @Zeolahn yoo man we're back on!!

  • SHHHHH! enjoy the amazing music and video! ;)

  • this video was shot in the theater i work at :D makes me feel great on the inside that some place on long island is useful

  • like Brand New but without the clever lyrics, not bad

  • @stvnmtthwjms Did you read these lyrics? How the hell can you say they aren't clever?

  • @stvnmtthwjms TROW's lyrics have some of the best lyrics of our time. So much freaking imagery. The type of lyrics you have to sit down and deduce. Lacey and Vinnie are phenomenal writers as well, just different styles.

Also if you're talking best lyricists of our time, Jordan Dreyer's name is at the top of that list.

  • fucking amazing

  • a little too much on the scream. but otherwise it was great ^^

  • Kinda reminds me of brand new

  • one more thing... people who are complain about screaming? that honestly doesnt make sense to me, thats like the climax of the song. i dont understand how you could complain about something awesome.

  • @KenneyTDAGARIM I agree it adds an extra element of emotion to the song.

  • This is a music video for the song "Oarsman" off of our upcoming full-length album "Varuna" to be released on November 30, 2010.

  • A good song, til the end screams. They really pull it into the magnificent section. Awesome!

  • also, stfu about this band sounding like brand new, they're both excellent bands in their own rite and there's no need to constantly compare them

  • @LetMyInspirationFlow THANKYOU. i dont know why everyone find the need to compare the too. its so annoying, i agree.

  • Never been this inspired by a band since I first heard "The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me"...

  • I personally felt that the scream at the end did take away from the song. I was digging it, and then all of a sudden I thought I was listening to Hawthorne Heights. It just sounded very generic...

  • lovely music vid, lovely song, lovely guys

  • @pbpb1287

Actually, yes they do. Listen to the song Tourette's or Territorial Pissings. Cobain has a very emotional scream.

  • Gnarliest Indie Band yet... IMHO

  • The Republic of Wolves is the next Brand New! Sick video and song!

  • @growingfungus umm. there will never be a "next brand new"... Brand New is the greatest band of all time. i dont think you should throw there name around so lightly.

  • You guys have all the potential in the world. Keep it up!

  • @silverside30 Totally agree

  • This band had so much potential until that ridiculous screaming at the end, and the guy looks really ridiculous doing it in the video. Some music has the versatility to add screaming and make it work, and some simply doesn't. Some people will love the song until the screaming, like myself, and some people will think the screaming is the best part. But look at Thrice, eliminated screaming, became amazing, or Receiving End of Sirens, added just enough screaming to make it amazing, it varies.

  • @masterj317 the screaming at the end makes it different form other songs. some people like it, some people dont. the song is still great.

  • @masterj317 For me the screaming is what turned me on to this band. And when done right, screamed vocals is the purest way to show emotions like fear, hurt or anger in a song and does it far better than singing can. Also, you misused the word potential. If you don't appreciate the ending of one of their songs, it doesn't mean it tarnishes the first portion of it, or any other's they make as a band and that they can never grow. They have more than one song.

  • @Username1361 Screaming vocals may work well at showing certain emotions, but it doesn't mean it works well with every type of music. The word potential is appropriate because everything that was built up from the first three minutes of this song was lost by screaming that didn't match the emotion of the music. I've listened to the album a few times, and the screaming feels out of place with the atmosphere of the album. And btw, most bands grow when they ditch unnecessary screaming, not add it.

  • @masterj317 You said the band had potential though, not just the song, so if that's really what you meant then that's right. And to me when bands drop an aspect of their music they're really not growing, they're just forcing themselves to have a smaller range of originality in their music. Bands are better with more breadth.

  • Absolutely great song! I absolutely adore the screaming bit.

  • black people cant swim

  • don't like the end... the rest is awesome

  • Oargasm ;)

  • I watched it a 100 times the last hours, just a great song!

  • Digital guitar tones, there's an ElevenRack on top of his cab..

  • Death Cab was cool when I was a kid too.

  • @lkbroha more like GAY

  • Am I the only one that loves the screaming at the end? Fantastic song.

  • @eclectiic

No, you are not. I love it!

  • Gregg you are insanely Cool.

  • wow

  • ROBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I enjoy all genres of music. From deathcore to folk, and the screaming at the end definitely just seemed to be inappropriate. To each their own, it was definitely a new thing for me to hear.. but it was just really odd.

  • @TKOdawk

    You're an idiot.

  • @Howlkin youre prolly the douche screaming at the end

  • 13,000 views. fucking A

  • They destroyed the song in the end. Sorry!

  • @guxt65 we love the end, but thank you for the support

  • @guxt65 -the end is the best part dude

  • @Devaprakash777 Well, I really like the song, but he screams too much in the end. And I normally like screaming in songs (Nirvana, for example). Maybe I have to listen to this song when I need to scream myself too. But I repeat, I like the song. This is about tastes, that's all.

  • @guxt65 -yeah, i understand what ur saying

  • @guxt65 Nirvana doesn't scream...

  • This band is awesome.

  • I love this video and band! They are going to get huge. The only thing I don't like about this song is the overheads are way to loud.

  • love the drums sound! gigantic!

  • woww. Ending is intense, I love it

  • So excited to buy this CD.

  • This band is the next big thing.

    This song is love.

  • 1:30...creepy ass face in the background

  • Brand New wishes they could do this. I said it.

  • @zinrgy not yet. give it time MAYBE

  • this video/song is amazing, can't wait for the album now!

did anyone else get a bit reminded of Lost though with teh beach/forest scenes?

  • so intense. so moving. so beautiful. i have a feeling this will be a contender for my album of the year.

  • @sophos34 Right on brother.

  • greg needs to sing more....awesome voice

  • Nice lyrics. Great song. Love the dreamy production, too. And the band looks great on the stage at the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall. I think the ghosts enjoyed your performance too in the old opera house. :) I love the theme of bringing things back to life. And I agree that the screaming at the end is unexpected and way cool.

  • This is like Chronicles of Narnia on crack. Great Job, Wolves. I will be sure to re-watch

    a) to hear the song again.

and b) to solve the mystery of the magic crab.

  • Billy's scream at the end is epic lol.

Amazing music video to accompany an amazing song. Good job guys.

    -jhock

  • sooo sick.

  • yay, robert! :D

  • yeah. those weird "skramz" are the best part of their songs. im so glad someone mistook them for brand new. i woulda never heard of them otherwise.

  • @ThriftStoreTalent

I only wish I could learn how to skram as well.

  • @ThriftStoreTalent forreal

  • Wow. Just wow. This is amazing! Great job to you all! I'm so glad that VLMH was a part of what is going to be looked at as musical history!

  • The skramz sound weird :S.

  • @Jakeisnotgaylol

Enlighten me. What in god's name are these 'skramz' you speak of?

  • damn sean okane that name sounds familiar oh wait its because hes nasty at photo/videography and he made a sick ass video

  • Republic of Wolves has yet to disappoint. Solid song, bad ass video.
