Nice bass, but I'd choose a Carvin over this when it comes to custom basses. Neck through body, no bolts, strings through body, you can get that pretty quilted maple and even have some pearl fret in-lays (like mine). Sustain is epic, adjusts all 3 tones, master and both pick up volumes, and active/passive switch. Paid about a lil over a quarter of the price of this (even though they go for around the same price brand new). Don't get the wrong idea though, we all have our own preference.
@fukkaburn dude dont be a jack ass. I would understand this comment if he was saying he was the best bassist in the world, but hes not trying to show off. He's just demonstrating the bass, so just get off the video if you dont like it.
@ForgetTheCow2 Why do you say that? Pretty cheap compared to some of the Alembics and Carl Thompson's out there. I'd say if you truly have the passion for playing the bass and have the cash for it, you've got no excuse to be playing a shitty ibanez or a squire. I've eaten ramen noodles for two months to be able to afford the gear I want.
@bassace663 Alembics and Carl Thompson's are custom shop basses though, HUGE difference. But I won't chirp this guy for spending so much on this bass, it must be what he wanted otherwise why would he get it? It may not seem worth it to some people but it must have been worth it for him.
Some people don't like the sound,it's not warm sounding like other basses with wood necks. But that wasn't the sound I was after.I've set up alot of basses and guitars, I have the action set to 1/16". which is really low with no fret buzz. The only time the bass goes out of tune is when I bump the tuning peg.I love the bass not because of the name or the price. But because in the 10 years of playing it felt the most natural feeling in my hands.I judge a bass after I play it,I fell in love with it.
no i understand i mean i buy what fits in my hands the way i like it and sounds to my ear how i like it but this kind of bass isn't really my thing...i don't like the carbon fiber neck...carbon fiber belongs on supercars. I mean if I had over 2 grand to blow on a bass i'd get like a top quality Reissue Fender
The 9v battery is for the onboard preamp. It allows you to boost or cut the lows, mids and highs. Rather than having to make adjustments on your amp, you can make adjustments from your bass
thats pretty cool, the only thing i dont get is why do they make a 5 string funk bass... how many funk songs require a low b?.. actually whats something that isnt metal that needs a low b?
A lot of modern Jazz and Gospel uses 5 - strings. Also, just because it's funk doesn't mean it's limited to 4 - strings. There's nothing wrong with expanded and experimenting with different equipment.
Nah, I haven't done much work on it. I mess around with the action every now and then depending on what kind of sound I want. I also just changed the strings yesterday so it's sounding really nice right now. It's hands down the best bass I've ever played. I've got a super-rare red flake I've never seen anyone else use too. So I'm really proud of that. Mine's a four string though. I need to get some videos of it up. I need my computer fixed.

Should have gone with the Quantum 5 with the 2 Bartolini soapbars for that price.
But, it all depends on your sound.

I agree for the preamp!
I had a 2004, and the preamp room was much better done
now I have the 97, the battery is just swiming in there :(
and I think it's kinda impossible changing back to 18 volt, not enough room :(
thanks for the review

I just bought the same thing with a regular paint job for 900
