  • Cool video. Diggin' that knife. Thanks for filming the test, enjoyed watching it. --Chris.

  • interesting. I've snapped tips doing the same test. infact I dont think its a valuable test because I can just about snap any tip off any knife that isn't tipped like a crow bar. having 1/8" of tip in hardwood like you did, is the same as putting 1/8" into a vice.. it will snap easily because of the sheer amount of leverage you have on it. I agree that the fact that it bend shows either toughness, or a soft heat-treat. (what RC test did it hit?) but it was too stressed to push back. Good Video

  • @knivesandstuff

I agree totally. It was extreme, I got carried away. I have no idea what it would rc at. I don't have a tester. Rc doesn't mean a whole lot to me honestly, I aim for a spot and then test it. If it passes good, if not then I adjust. Not exact science but it works pretty good.

    Thanks, bro.

  • Another great test! You just keep honing those skills with every knife. Never let down be any of your stuff.

  • @MrBillypoe

    Thanks, Billy!

  • Man. You are working hard. Very nice. Always like to see you doing something different and exiting. :)

    Keep up.

  • Great video, and very informative. (Better your blade than mine! Hahahaaa!) Thanks for testing and the demo. That really answered some questions. Later, brother. ~Wolf

  • What do you think is the best steel for a knife like that for someone with a smaller budget?

  • @geelsman

I don't think you can go wrong with properly heat treated o-1, personally. Properly heat treated to what you want to do with the knife of course.

  • almost looks like the guy that made that knife knew what he was doin

  • @jeff420swinger

    Lol. He didn't. :D

  • You put it out there for all to see. There is no smoke and mirrors, when a customer buys a Turley it's tried and true!

  • I say go too :)

  • Now u know 154cm work hardens! ;)

  • @Axbent

I've never heard of any steel work hardening without heat. I'm no expert but my experience tells me that steel (especially stainless) work hardens if it gets to hot while machining it.

There was no heat here. lol.

    Thanks,

    Iz

  • you make some bad ass knives my friend god bless 154cm is good stuff i have the ontario blackbird sk5 havnt had a chips yet great job

  • Yeah, I'm too much of a control freak to send anything out for heat treat. heh.

    I appreciate it, bro.

  • man you put to the test for sure

    very good looking knife

i think more tests are needed hehehe

thanks for the video goood stuff

  • This video made me cringe to watch. I knew you had broken the tip on this one. Just didn't know when or how. That blade seems to have a fairly weak tip just by design (by being fairly pointy). I do believe it held up very well for the amount of stress you were exerting on it. I kinda thought it would have broken sooner. Love the video and thanks for sharing. How would a knife of the same design would of done in O1?

    Thanks Iz,

  • @Redmech80 I think the tip would have held up without bending if it were o-1. But if I had put an o-1 tip in a knot like that it would have busted just the same. Like you said, this tip isn't designed for max toughness. If it were it'd be a lot blunter and rounded.

    Thanks, bro.

  • Did you Cryogenically treat it? Almost all stainless needs that step especially 154CM

  • @pennfootball71

Thanks, bro. I appreciate the input and encouragement.

  • @pennfootball71

No, I didn't. I'm not into the high tech wonder techniques honestly. If it doesn't work with what I have then I won't use it. So far it's done pretty dang good without the cryo though.

    We'll see.

    Thanks,

    Iz

  • @bindlestitch1 154Cm is the same stuff they use in Jet Engine exhaust nozzles it is a pretty special material..If you cryo treat it it will make it tougher...especially at the tip...I am not sure if you are comfortable at sending it out and having it cryo treated...I know it is better to have sole proprietorship but the heat treat is the most important step with any steel especially persnickety stainless. I appreciate the fact you tested it on camera. Thank you for sharing that with us...

  • looks great, 154cm is one of my favorites, throws great sparks too

  • very cool. Any thoughts on name for the little beast? Also do you consider the heat treat dialed in then?

  • @rwkcontact

This one won't be in the regular lineup, it's to close to the green river and gascoande in style. It would be redundant I guess you'd say. The heat treat is as dialed in as I can get it with the set up I have. Stainless is a whole different animal from high carbon steels. Not as much "tweak" room I've found.

    Thanks, bro

  • Thans for the honest review Iz, your a do'er.

If I ever get a small knife, like the argandaaaaaaaab, it would be in stainless.

    Love that knife bro.

  • @josephallen19

That would be a good one for this steel.

    Thanks ,brojoe.

  • This should be calling "Beating the piss out of 154CM". Good stuff man!
