The Lisbon Treaty will (Rightfully!) Take a significant amount of decision making power away from smaller countries.
The way things currently are at least a few of the smaller, less populated countries will ALWAYS prevent any tangiable action from being taken, with Lisbon they can't stand in the way anymore without the backing of one or more of the "big six" (Germany, France, UK, Italy, Spain, Poland) Since if the six are in agreement anything will be passed, which is how it should be.
It is kind of sad that what could not be implemented by force, now is between implemented little by little with subtle and misleading politics.

That's the problem. They are unable to read it, and therefore, they are unable to understand what changes this treaty will hold. That's why people hate it. And then, there came a voting system that doesn't hear the opinions of everyone. All these become the political leaders' business, and less from us. Why would they pushed a treaty that is almost impossible to be comprehended, and rush us into supporting this treaty? Something is not right!
One important change this Treaty will make (since it soon comes into Law) will be the power of one EU member state to veto decisions effecting the EU. It will be decided only by popular vote which in effect gives the EU more power then the EU states.
I can see Europe breaking up if it continues to operate in this way. At the end of the day its down to the people and when the people realise their nationality has been put into single nationality I think changes back will occur.

The Lisbon Treaty will (Rightfully!) Take a significant amount of decision making power away from smaller countries.
The way things currently are at least a few of the smaller, less populated countries will ALWAYS prevent any tangiable action from being taken, with Lisbon they can't stand in the way anymore without the backing of one or more of the "big six" (Germany, France, UK, Italy, Spain, Poland) Since if the six are in agreement anything will be passed, which is how it should be.

That's the problem. They are unable to read it, and therefore, they are unable to understand what changes this treaty will hold. That's why people hate it. And then, there came a voting system that doesn't hear the opinions of everyone. All these become the political leaders' business, and less from us. Why would they pushed a treaty that is almost impossible to be comprehended, and rush us into supporting this treaty? Something is not right!

One important change this Treaty will make (since it soon comes into Law) will be the power of one EU member state to veto decisions effecting the EU. It will be decided only by popular vote which in effect gives the EU more power then the EU states.
I can see Europe breaking up if it continues to operate in this way. At the end of the day its down to the people and when the people realise their nationality has been put into single nationality I think changes back will occur.

Im romanian and i live in dublin yet i voted no. The only country that held a referendum is thick? The people from the other 26 member states in the EU are not even putting up a fight to hold a referendum in the first place. The Irish were uneducated and I bet so are the rest of the countries in the EU if it came to them voting on the treaty. However, putting all the blame on Ireland is ignorant of the other EU members ignorance.

We heard the same cries of Armageddon (from NototheNWO) before the Amsterdam, Nice and Maastricht referenda. And what happened to Ireland? Nothing negative.
Our roads improved thanks to EU money. Airfares fell in price because of EU Competition Policy. And, when the sh*t hit the fan with our banks, who saved us? The European Central Bank, an EU institution. So, enough whinging and negativity. Time to say YES...unequivocally to our European neighbours.

It's clear the direction the EU is heading in terms of centralizing the power of its member states. If you like this idea and everything else the treaty has in store for you, then yeah, great, the extra money you scrap in from the EU would be all worth it. Once again you can be ruled my a greater nation, bet the Irish people will be proud of that, but if this happens I'm not sure how much I will respect them any more to be honest.

Our civil servants and diplomats have been securing favourable treatment for Ireland for almost four decades. The Commission is one of a triptych of Commission, Council of Ministers and European Parliament. It pays to remember this and the 67.1% yes vote and near 60% turnout.

There seems to be an inability, on your part, to understand that the Council of Ministers (the representative body for the various Ministers from the different Member States) has much more clout than the Commission and calls the shots(with, to a lesser extent, the Euro Parliament) when it comes to decision-making at EU level. So, when Margaret Thatcher wanted budget refunds, she was able to use the Council of Ministers as a forum within which to overrule the Commission's plans in this regard.

YES vote = no way back, we can't undo mistakes made in the treaty or the EU, our say in EU is halved. Some countries say is doubled.
NO vote = we are still in the EU, like we are now, and the EU must be more accountable to the people of Europe. It stops the runaway power of the EU parliament and its gravy train expenses.
The mature thing is to stand up and tell EU to correct the problems, not to give in to the accusing tut-tutting of EU politicians trying to tell us we should be embarrassed.
