there always be a misconception towards chinese history by foreign people even some chinese, qin shi huang (秦始皇) was the first chinese emperor who united China, but not the technically the 'first' emperor or ruler in either political or spiritial senses of China. in chinese mythology, Huang di and yan di (黄帝,炎帝) were the two first emperors after defeting chi you (蚩尤).

There have been 13 dynasties in China's history - Hsia, Shang, Chou, Ch'in, Han, Three Kingdoms, Tsin, Sui, T'ang, Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, Sung, Yuan, Ming, Ch'ing. So, this emperor Chin Shi Huang must be around near 200 BC - 200 AD. So, technically, he would not be the first emperor of China.
