  • I remember playing this game, then my comp fkd up and hard to start again, took me months to finish when i was a teenager....but dam i didnt car coz it was worth it!!!!

  • Look what's been rolled out... :D

    ww w. baldursgate . com

  • I've recently finished Planescape:Torment, is this game as good as PST? If yes I think I'll give it a try.

  • I liked fighting Sarevok at the end, and filling the room with summoned gnolls. Only to watch Sarevok wading through them and slowly getting killed.

  • Nostalgia! I used to kill that dude who turned into a werewolf (in Ulgoth's beard) and found a glitch where he'd respawn instantly and I could keep killing him.

  • Baldur's Gate is all well and good, but it's no Morrowind.

  • All of today's game's badasses can suck Sarevok's dick. He the most badass evil guy I've ever seen, he can make Kratos his bitch!

  • @327Magnum And Sarevok's afraid of Viconia... so that makes her the most badass.

  • Damn it, who is going to crusade for the holy hand grenade now!?

Also is it just me or is this the reason why I see sarevok as the cool aid man now because of him breaking that door.

  • Shao Khan! What're you doing in Baldur's Gate?

  • Best computer game villain ever.

  • So many guys fell for CoD troll

  • How to tell you're not playing a conventional RPG: there's a fucking NIETZCHE quote at the start.

  • 1:01

"As long as the portal to outworld stays open, your world becomes my world! Uahahaha!"

  • @babal1ty this gameas said revived the crpg genre Modern Warfare is a slightly above average FPS 'nuff said

  • @babal1ty I've got to wonder how you can compare two games of two different genres. That really makes no sense. If you compare them to an fps standard, of course MW3 would be better, but if you did rpg, then baldur's gate will obviously win. Think some before you post something. Please.

  • @babal1ty Sounds like you didn't make it out of Candlekeep.

  • @xeproject9 Don't delude your self, he has never played BG, or probably any RPG for that matter other than WOW.

  • @babal1ty how can u compare those 2 games u twat

  • @babal1ty Lol Mw2 is better then mw3

I like mw3 but TES Series Just Tears mw3 apart

  • @babal1ty The cod series is made by kids, for kids, Real gamers play real games that people actully put some work into instead of pressing Ctrl + C and then changed 1 number on the game. God, if you think that cod is a gg you really dont know what a gg is!

  • @babal1ty Really, a generic FPS with no story worth mentioning, that is simply an expansion pack (yeah, remember those? Probably not, since you are 10) to MW 1 and 2, which they themselves are generic FPS not worth mentioning other than their multiplayer. Yes, it must be better than one of the greatest RPGs ever created, hailed by critics and players alike, rivaling the likes of Diablo, FFVII and WOW.

  • @shoujoaiotaku The only reason MW is even remembered is because of ADHD riddled fucktards like you who don't have the attention span to comprehend a story past good guy, bad guy, good guy kills bad guy. Actually trying to comprehend a character beyond has x gun, x armor, and x hp is out of your intelligence completely ruins the game for you, let alone trying to follow and evolving story line and character.

  • Don't touch me... I'm super important.

  • After months, i finally UNDERSTAND what is going on in this intro and why!

aaah i love baldurs gate <33

  • Go for the eyes boo, Go for the eyes!!

  • Those were the days...Great memories

  • in german the voices are better :<

  • Goddamn 240 p

  • Best Game Forever!

  • ahhhhhh memories............... I've wasted a good amount of my teenage years on this.......... Best time ever spent.....

  • When is Atari gonna make Baldur's Gate III? They've got the license and all...

  • Thought he was gonna rape that guy

  • I found it on the market along with Sword Coast for £1.50, best impulse purchase I've ever made

  • I was playing this before I could read. A few years later I beat everything up to disk five because my moronic older brother lost it:( Now I am playing 2 from impulse and wish these would come back.

  • They need to make a third one.... asap

  • STOP TOUCHING ME!

    Yes, oh almighty authority figure?

    WHA- oh, ahem, yes?

  • @ResurrectedTemplar I ate his liver with a nice chianti and some fava beans!!! :))

  • Timeless. This game towers above the rest and has stood the test of time.

  • Their can only be one!!!

  • Bioware+Interplay+Black Isle=Epic

  • @SlipknotFanize Black Isle==More than epic; the next level. Best RPG Ever¡¡¡¡

  • @ripprV That is true

  • @ripprV BIS were only consultants, the game itsefl was made by Bioware.

  • wow now this is a game not the shit bioware coming out with nowadays

  • And that ladies and genthlemen is how Blackguards are made.

  • Picking the first game up in elementary school and still both and the expansions at my ripe age is just stating the obvious I guess. The replayability of these games alone! Dear lord! They are just that good!

  • Chills...

  • İs there a option in this game where my companions will auto-follow me ?

  • @rezaletAK no your companions will not auto-follow you

  • I remember back in the day when I first got this game, I thought this opening cinematic was so awesome that I kept playing it over and over. I wish I so easily pleased now...

  • @iCIRCOS Oh god, same here. Also 'I wish I was so easily pleased' comment is so true for me too. I remember when this was so badass to me, now if I saw this on a new game I'd be like 'lolwut'

  • @iCIRCOS I know exactly what you mean D':

  • OMG i can't believe i was only 8 when i last played this

  • Just bought the BA and BA2 compliation pack from Amazon. So stoked to play these games again.

  • i remember i was walkin through the woods and som random fat guy passes me and says "Hello there" then keeps walking man this brings back memories

  • The best RPG ever realized.

  • Isn't this from the same guys who made the better Knights of the Old Republic game?

  • keep clicking at 1:13 haha brilliant

  • haha, crunch

  • @MirageBistro Dragon age kicks the shit out of this, you're suffering from a severe case of nostalgia.

  • @Supergibb

How so? When you have a game that offers more content than the other, I see no legitimate reason as to how it is solely thriving on nostalgia.

    Sort your life out, son.

  • @MirageBistro I concur with your sentiments

    =3

Baldur's Gate almost single-handedly revived the CRPG genre, and even after all these years, STILL possesses such depth and is still so god damn FUN!

  • @TAz69x No, that was actually Fallout: 1. If it wasn't for that game, there would be no Baldur's Gate, hell, if it wasn't for Black Isle Studios, there would be no Baldur's Gate. Thank goodness Black Isle didn't need Baldur's Gate under their belt to be credited as the king of RPG developers.

  • @Supergibb

Mind you, the only department that DAO excels in is the cinematics department. W/O your fancy LOTR style cinematics, the game would be a heap of ADD enticing entertainment. Don't be a sheep, now.

  • @Supergibb lol oh wow

  • @Supergibb

You're wrong, and you're suffering from a severe case of ignorance. Everything worthwhile about DA was present in BG and more. I disagree with some in saying that BG 2 was superior, but regardless, the series... BG, BG2, ToB, still stands as the best fantasy CRPG available at any price. DAO followed by DA2 is hogswill without even particularly pretty graphics by comparison.

If you can't wrap your head around tiny sprites instead of ugly 3d models, it's a shame for you.

  • @Username93611

Those who dare oppose your comment should install the "The long Road" mod for BG2.

  • Dragon Age is the greatest RPG of this generation. Critically acclaimed in every major publication, a pioneer in adult theme and content, and incredibly authentic in its originality -- from the concept of the story to it's historically rich setting.

I would think you'd welcome such comparisons.

  • @ebviewer

And yet, what kind of RPG games define this generation? Compared to DA2 , DAO is a godsend. But please, when you compared DAO to BG2, DAO is too shallow!

  • @ebviewer

Dragon Age 2 ruined whatever potential the series had. It's mediocre now.

  • @MirageBistro dragon age is a great game

  • @limetreePT1939

It is a great game, but compared to the BG series, it pales in comparison.

  • @MirageBistro exactly. nothing compares to baldurs gate. and bioware calls dragon age baldurs gate's "successor" haha ha

  • Sarevok was such a badass villain.

  • @terraneaux

Only to be outdone by Irenicus... baddassest of them all..... est.

  • There can be only one...

    Hereeeeee we are,

    born to be kings,

with the princes of the universe...

  • @jessc1979

not "with the" but "we're the"

  • @corax86 Oops... how embarrassing... almost as embarrassing as my thinking the lyrics to that Aerosmith song was *Do it* like a lady.

  • Sarevok and Irenicus are the two bad assed greatest and perfect villans of all time

  • @Cleshie

One can't mention bad assed villains without mentioning the Queen **** of them all Amelyssan the Blackhearted (BG2: ToB)

  • Dragon's Lair & Space Ace are iphone games, would kill for this one too! :D

  • This game is still fun to play to this day.

  • come to think of it... i never beat baldur's gate 1! ahh well time to find my old disks.

  • @jakonen team if 3 warriors 1 mage and 2 archers try that xD

  • @SuperKillerchris I always go with two warriors (Minsc and Khalid) a healer (Jaheira) two spellcasters (Dynaheir and Xan) and my character is almost always the rogue

  • @efatarocks

Shitty party. Substitute Safana and Edwin for Dynaheir and Minsc, and make your PC a fighter of some kind.

  • @jakonen It requires balls of steel.

  • I have never played this game and I realize its old and I don't want to step on your childhood or anything but wasn't this cutscene kinda... crappy?

  • @Marcusvlogs It wasn't bad for the year 1999. It's about as low quality as Diablo II, which happened about the same time.

  • @Marcusvlogs well for late '90s it was pretty awesome

  • Fun Fact: The fight between Saervok and this Bhaalspawn takes place at the top of the Iron Throne in Baldurs Gate; the guy at the start is suggested to be a Bhaalspawn by Saervoks own words "I will be the last and you will go first" as he intends to wipe out all the other Bhaalspawn . If you go to the top of the Iron Throne and examine the fence it says "This fence has been recently repaired" which hints it was there that he murdered this guy :)

  • My name is literally Baldur. Its the same spelling too. I used to get so much shit for this name, until i realised the epicness of this game. Thank you Baldur's Gate

  • such awesomness

  • Watch my Baldur's Gate lets play! (If you want)

  • they don't make em like this any more

  • @igotthatsnowmayn one of the best games when i was a kid

  • Fuck I remember skiping the intro when I was a kid :L

  • I feel bad that I never managed to get into this game. It has such a legacy & it's made by one of my favorite developers.

  • this game was freakign hard

  • @niceprince

It was freaking impossible for me until I learned that you're supposed to pause during battles and input your commands for your party members, lol.

  • @TheShockMaster A lot of people ignore key support/buffering spells and abilities, as well. If it's played correctly, gameplay is a breeze. Save often.

  • graphics!

  • LOL :)))))))

  • so...how clean is an elven arse?

  • @lmjsclone In Elven lands there's an expression "my arse is clean as winthrop's inn"

  • why the hell would anyone downrate this? its pure concentrated epicness!

  • The best, epic, most mythical intro out of all the other RPGS!

  • Best thing I loved about that series, you could be a good guy if you wanted, no problem, but the main quest, instead of the usual "save the kingdom", was "Save your own ass, theyre coming to get you!" Awesome!

  • Brings back memories!

  • best game ever beat this one with the second too

  • My dad got me this game when I was probably about 8 or so, and I could never get past one of the beginning parts. I don't even remember what it was. I stopped playing it pretty fast lol. But now that I'm older I want another crack at this game. Especially since I'm a WoW nerd now >.> lol

  • does this game work in vista?

  • Is Drizzt Do'Urden in this game? I've almost finished all the Drizzt Do'Urden book trilogies and I read somewhere he plays a part in this game.

  • @Chineserijstwafel He shows up once in baldurs gate, again in baldurs gate 2

  • @Chineserijstwafel yes, I can't remember what area exactly...it's north-east of Nashkell. I think it's a hilly area. Drizzt is fighting a bunch of gnolls and he asks for your help (like he needs it. lol) YOu have the option of helping him or killing him...I always helped him cuz he would wipe the floor with me.

  • @killawind1287

Aye, it's two territories south of Beregost along the road. After you kill some hobgoblins on your way down from a big hill, keep going south - then break off the road and head west after you meet some noble from Waterdeep. Then you'll find gnolls and eventually Drizzt.

    ....

.. It's been years since last. How do I remember these things!?? >_< Evidence of a good game, no doubt.

  • I will be the last !!! And you will go first !! Muhahahahahah !!!

    Epic evilness ! XD

  • at 1:07 i expected him to say "I'm Batman!"

  • Yeah, a man with that kind of power is scary, but why be a pussy about it? Give it what you got 'till you can't fight anymore! That is the way of a true soldier!

  • this was best game i have ever played...old times

  • 3D can look good at the time...I always felt Dungeon Seige had amazing scenery...I loved how I would move out of a cave into a beautiful forest. However you can always come back to the infinity engine - even 10 years later! Aptly named, might I add...

  • Sarevok, please revive and rule the Baldur's gate once again!! When that happen, blizzard's Diablo3 will fail

  • @akezater yes deffinately play #1 first and go through a couple times so you have a firm grasp on the storyline because the replayability of this game astounds me to this day. i've rented #2 before but don't remember it too well but i do remember it was a blast. good games

  • i havent played this game but im a fan of bioware.. shall i play this one before i play baldurs gate 2?

  • What the name of the bad guy?? he's cool^^

  • @MsDragonfly14 Sarevok, badass name

  • :O!!!!!!!!!!

  • "I will be the last, and you will go first"

  • This game had atmospheric music, a great hook ("who is that evil looking guy and why did he kill that other guy?"), excellent character interaction and a pretty damn good story. Quests were weak, and the logbook was terrible. Second Edition rules were broken as hell but it was part of the charm.

  • @Amberion2dp *cough* Kensai/Mage *cough* But hey if you haven't played BG1 , you have only seen half of the tale

  • @Tiars666tiamat

Yeah NwN is ugly I agree. I haven't finished it but I played it a little and could hardly stand the graphics or interface (after being spoiled on Baldur's Gate 2). I guess I just prefer the Infinity Engine for this kind of game.

Anyways, with BGTutu you can play BG1 with BG2 classes and kits.

  • I loved being a fighter/thief in this, then finally traveling to Baldur's Gate and breaking into every house possible. The Flaming Fist never had a chance

  • It took me awhile to realize what Sarevok meant in this..

    Now I know :].

I should break out the good ol' 6 disc game with the expansion and play again

  • .. nooooo!! my first pc game.. I love it!! T_T

  • If it's RPG - I've played it. From PnP, MUDs, Nethack, Goldbox, Diablo, WoW to Witcher.

and everything in-between. This is still the best, for it's simplistic and honest nature. a truly well crafted work of art.

We who enjoy rpgs on computer owe a debt of gratitude to Bioware.

They raised the bar in one fell swoop.

  • Pure ecstatic awesomeness.

  • Man, when did Darth Vader get horns?

  • "I will be the last...and you will go first..." If that was 3.5E, Sarevok would be a Blackguard of Bhaal

  • @Tiars666tiamat Cyric killed Bhaal(Lawful Evil) during the TimeofTroubles, before Baldur's Gate starts.

  • Best game I've ever played, atleast 10 times. BG2 to follow. A remake wouldn't do it for me, (love the graphics the way they are) but a Baldur's gate 3 would be so damn awesome. Might be a little messy if they had you continue with your BG2:ToB character though.

  • i agree, i'd buy this game if they remade it with better graphics, I remember how much I loved BG I and II, along with the expansions. It's just so good! I do believe this calls for a REMAKE! or a new one :)

  • Maybe we all should sign up for a petition to remake baldurs gate or atleast continue the game like it was with a few better graphics but all in all not changing the game relevantly !

  • great adnd gameplay, great story, great music, great sounds, great graphics. a verry impressive game. somehow the best rpg ever made

  • The victims voice acting is amazing

  • Baldur's Gate was literally developed three blocks from my house, near Whyte Ave at Bioware's old offices.

Strange feeling of pride when SUCH A FUCKING AWESOME GAME arises from scratch just a stone's throw away from you; plus Ray and Greg are pretty cool, though Greg's definitely the more fun guy to hang around.

  • @TAz69x Your cool-meter just sky rocketed man.

  • @TAz69x I live in Lansdowne like 6 blocks from BioWare. Hoping to work there one day. Pretty sweet living so close to such creative geniuses.

  • @SnIkLeeT

    Err...yeah.

Sorry to be the one to have to break this to you... The BioWare that made Baldur's Gate is long gone. They got bought by EA if you didn't hear. If you still aren't sure what what I'm talking about, check out Dragon Age II.

    Yeah... sorry.

  • @Username93611 Ya man I haven't played DA2 but I heard it blew. I'm interested in them because of kotor and ass effect. excellent games. Being bought by EA doesn't make them less of storymakers.

  • @SnIkLeeT

I agree. I've spoken to David Gaider personally, who was a writer for BG1, head writer for BG2 and TOB, and head writer for Dragon Age Origins, and then DA2.

DAO didn't have a bad story. I didn't like the gameplay nearly as much... I didn't like the world as much (that it was created from scratch pretty much guaranteed it wouldn't have the depth of a 30+ year old campaign setting) but it was a decent story. DA2 blew because EA ordered Bioware to get it released in 2 years.

  • Remember when ma Dad brought this into the house, i was unnerved by the the box art big armoured devil fiend guy, so instalation; he fires it up, then this video plays...fuck lol, had childhood nightmares. So i challenged myself and played it when dad wasn't owning Wyverns. Such a good game i'm glad it scared me haha, made me play harder.

    But kickin' for goodness indeed.

  • Is this game worth playing if you never have before?

  • this game, if i remember correctly, came out a while after diablo 1 came. it has been since the release around 98, when i was 16, my all time favourite game throughout time. this along with the expansions and baldur's gate 2 and it's expansionsets. then Neverwinter nights 1 came out with 3 expansions, which was great, too. But yeah, if you are a RPG fan then this ad&d game will take you back to the old school RPG. No games today summon forth the epic gamingexperience these classics can!

  • @headachesify It would probably take some time for one such as my self to get past the graphics but I'm under the impression that I should become infatuated with it beyond visual premises after a little play time. I also understand it's incredibly long which is a plus if I don't nessescarily want to play too conseculatively. But anyhoo now it's just a matter of finding a nice cheap download for it.

  • @pleasuremuffin

Look up the 4 in one Box Set Ace. The whole package yo. These games are worth your time. Graphically it all fits in with the world, but even if that doesn't fully sway you, the music is very VERY good and will imerse your hide in the world forcefully. (in a way you will like)

Plus the story is like god-tear if you havn't looked at any spoilers. Fight the urge! Play the game.

  • Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment... the three of a perfect kind. I think I never found a game that was nearly as captivating as any of the said three. However, I nostalgy the most when exposed to BG xD The game was perfect in many different ways.

@pleasuremuffin Of course, and I think I speak for everyone here when I say you should finish it at least twice before you die :) People don't make games like this anymore, and that's why they're dubbed classics. Go ahead and try it.

  • The victims voice actor is amazing.

  • The voice actor of the victim is epic.

  • i just noticed, the BG emblem looks a lot like mw2's 10th prestige icon...

there they went and copied again*sigh*

  • i've only played the BG2, is that a bhaalspawn he kills?

  • Yes, Sarevok is talking about bhaalspawn when he says "I will be the last and you will be the first." So the soldier in the beginning is the first bhaalspawn that he killed.

  • @CanoPinto Actually, Sarevok is fully ressurected in BG2 Throne of Bhaal. What's more important, Sarevok is companion of PC in In Throne of Bhaal. He starts as Chaotic Ev il, However he player can change Sarevok's alignment to Chaotic Good by setting a good example, and forgiving Sarevok for his past transgressions. Sarevok gets quite happy ending at the end of expansion.

  • @Narania234 Yes I know. But I believe when they did this intro to Baldur Gate 1, Throne of Bhaal wasnt even in their minds.

  • @CanoPinto Perhaps but in fact Sarevok was given second chance regardless.

  • @Narania234

I have yet to play it but I saw his ending, I thought it was sadly romantic :]

  • @kecona Yeah it can be describedas romantic as Sarevok go to Kara- Tur to burry his lover Tamoko.

  • 0:50 FACLON PUNCH!

  • Wow what a coward at least die fighting sigh..or if you want to get away don't run up stairs X_X

  • some one gave me this game is this good?

  • @zupergozer Is the sun yellow ?
