Hello I am doing basiclly the same build you have. I have hyper flat top pistons with four valve relief .030 over . I have the 062 vortec heads and a summit 1103 camshaft. I was wondering what springs and retainers you used on your heads. I've read that the heads can take 475 lift but I've also heard they can not take more then 450 lift with stock springs and retainers. So i was wondering if you give me some tips on what you did on your motor, also what length pushrods? Nice Camaro too!
Sweet Maro man looks mean as hell, is that the original paint?. Thanks for the comment its nice to hear from another camaro bretherin. N I decided to rebuild the old motor n jus keep it stock and reliable. Eventually Im gonna post another video of the new exhaust system I just put on. Its Flowmaster Racing 2.5in. exhaust system that gives it roar.
@Energi2DmaxX With the 700R4 and a 3.23 posi I cruise on the freeway at 70 mph at 2250 RPMS which will give me about 22-24 mpg. Overall it depends on how much I stuff my foot in it, but I'd say on average I'm getting 13 to 15 combined. I have a 3.42 Ring and Pinion I was thinking about putting in but from what I read it won't make that much difference. I use the car as a cruiser so 3.73's or lower are out. I rebuilt my Q-jet and it is tweaked for performance. I'm very happy with the carb!
Dude Nice Camaro....I putting a 350 vortec swap in mine....I bought a 1982 Z28 and bought a 350 vortec 4 bolt main and (4 speed transmission--original)Had to get a fly wheel for a 70's chevy pick up,a 70's corvette clutch, and waiting on a starter im try'n and corvette starter, but i might need to get and Off road use only starter....but anyways I was going to put the Exact Paint job on my car..lol
@TruAdictionv3 Sounds like a great plan> I'm very happy with my set up for overall drive ability and performance. I to have a built 700r4 4 speed, with corvette converter, servo and better internals ie 480le. With a 3:23 possi i\I'm only turning 2100 rpm's at 70 mph, but with the low 1st gear, you can get a great launch. I put on firestone firehawk 500 tires on, I'm extremely pleased with dry traction on launch. I still get wheel spin but not like traction t/a's. enjoy your project!!!!!
@BigSexxyLee I looked at your video. Nice car! You are right only the 1982 and early 1983 Z-28 came with the red/orange strip along the bottom and the red Z28 emblem on the rockers. What to do with your car? Well you can spend a ton of $ on them upgrading this and that...so I guess it's up to you. Others might disagree I think it is a waste of time spending any $ to make the 305 perform better. I think I would restore it keeping it 100% stock. In the long run, say 20 years it could be worth $
my 1984 camaro z28 is a really a sweet car...it has a 400 chevy small block (rebuilt) race motor...& it goes up to 220 MPH!!! really fast... it could race other cars....
Thanks!!! If you take off the dash pad you can reach down in there to get to the back side of the guage for wiring ect........I thought that was better than hanging the guages off the bottom of the dash pad .....
@lordzyilo Well,....that depends on what "satisfactory condition" Is? I paid $3000 for this car 3 years ago. It was a completely stock 305 engine, trans, ect....No rust anywhere, and it had this great paint job on it. Since then I have put in over 8000 in engine, trans, rear end upgrades, not to mention the suspension, sub frame connectors, stereo, guages ect..... If your car is completely stock i'd say it worth between $1500 and 3500 depending on the condition. Like this car 7000 to 10,000.
@REGALBOY82 Thanks.....The speedo is factory for this Canadian model and shows MPH and KPH but only to 85MPH :-( and 140 KPH.....I'm not sure if US models had the same in 83 or not.
@LeeMurphyRobertson Good Question. I'm not 100 percent sure but my best estimate is between 350 to 360 hp. I'd like to run it on the dyno this year to find out.
I just installed a wideband AEM UEGO sensor and am working on dialing the carb. This will help. Also rebuilt the 700r4...What a difference!
@1983zsled Oh nice man yeah i would like to know. actually i have almost the same set up as you lol. i got a scat 9000 crank. 0.40 over and 062 vortec heads port and polished. with a delta cam and im EFI with the tuned port injection. and im just about done and ready to start my motor up for its first time. ill upload a vid of the rebuild. you should check it out
@LeeMurphyRobertson I'm really happy with the set up. It is a good driver with enough go to have a little fun from time time to time. Desktop dyno's put the combo i have up around 377 to 385 hp but I don't think it is that much. With your TPI set up and you may be up in that range. Good luck with your fire up, and I'll keep watch for your vid.
@1983zsled Yeah thats a sweet set up i just uploaded the video yesterday you can see all my parts. but im hopin for somewhere in that ball park for hp. for some reason it wont let me post the link. but its the video motor rebuild.
Thanks...I struggled to find a place for those guages, but I'm happy with them there. I didn't want them hanging from the dash, near the center I think that looks crapppy....
Yep...Yep...and Yep again these heads are amazing! I cleaned up the exhaust side real good, and only the ridge on the inside of the intake bowl, and it really woke the engine up. I had 882 heads on before that had been proffesionally ported. No contest Vortecs Rock.
They are RPO ZQ8 rims used on the GM small pickups. I have only seen then in southern Ontario on S10 Extreme trucks but I have been told they were an option for those trucks. I like them because they have a stock GM appearance.

Nice, I like what you did with the sunpro gauges there. I don't have vents on that side either, might place a gauge or two there. legit.

Heddman headers, 1 5/8 collector, into a 3" Y pipe and exhaust, through the Ravin muffler..It sounds better in real life than the Video.
