There were food riots in Paris, which eventually turned to riots, which eventually meant the people overthrew governance of Paris. The Kind did not like this very much, so he sent his army. When the Parisians learned the army was underway the set to find muskets and gunpowder. That's why they were at the Bastille.
Well, I noticed that the soldiers in the prison wore red just like the British Redcoats.
I am British and I know British Army in the late 17th, 18th and 19th centuries wore red and the French before the Revolution wore either white or light blue so the prison guards are supposed to have wore white or light blue.
I suppose these clips might comes from the American war of Independence (American Revolution) or some Danish film people made mistakes.
Swiss Troops in French Service (who were guarding the Bastille) worn Red Tunics. I believe there was a total of four Regiments of Swiss Troops in the French Army
@SW28fan The only Swiss guards outside Switzerland today are in the Vatican city though they wore uniforms designed long before the French Revolution. Am I correct?
@DavBlc7 That is correct Swiss law today forbids the raising of miltary units in Switzerland for foreign service with the exception of the Vatican Guards. Not all of which wear the cerimonial uniforms BTW. Some can be seen holding rather modern assault rifles and wearing modern uniforms.
What action of the king's provoked the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789
