  • beautiful song! & a good cause !

    Violence is not OK

  • edavisdavis wrote: "great singers using there talent for a message that echoes down to where violence started from the seed of Cain and Able and planted in our polynesian fathers for mana, pride and protection by a wall built to withstand its worst enemy-Aroha"

  • For people who don't know what this is about:

"This was launched as part of the build up towards White Ribbon Day, 25 November. It is the international day when people wear a white ribbon to show they don't tolerate or condone men's violence towards women."

    See more in description.

  • this song reminds me of intermidiate... memories... love this song

  • churr brother

  • polyswagg <3

  • 274 hard :DD for GOD

  • why is there 4 dislikes .

  • oh look at that little cutie in the all blacks top dancing away his his daddy :)

  • BEAUTIFULLLLLLL!!!!!!! I love any version of this because the fact of the matter is violence affects every man and woman of all races. I thought this was sung beautifully and it would be a wonderful thing if these words cease to go in vain.

  • love this song

  • awesome :D

  • Shows the song reachers afar cher!

  • The original is much more poignant. The song is about knowing when you've become a man, and keeping your head up through the adversity that comes with inherited oppression.

Yet you can see watching this video the prevalance of the 50 year old BOY in NZ is severe.

Be original and stop trying to be staunch. The art of Soul and Gospel singing belongs to African Americans, how would you like it if you saw Marvin Gaye doing the haka or James Brown doing the slap dance?

  • @YOMOMZAHOE

i saw both marvin gaye and james brown do a slap dance on your face.

  • @YOMOMZAHOE i feel sorry for you.

oh........and leave music history for the historians......for tjhe record.....soul music DID not come from nor does it belong to African Americans. I hope your not African American..... If you are then I suggest that you research your history.....for real this time.

  • @apiamission2008 Soul DID originate with Black Americans. Soul music is the secular side of Black American gospel music, all the best soul singers came out of the Black church. It is you that needs to research.

  • WHERE CAN I GET A COPY OF THIS? its not on I-Tunes, I WANT a copy!

  • great vid! does anyone know the chords for the ukulele part! nice, mellow melodic sound, adds a completely fresh flavor to this track. nice

  • i agree of about wat this song is about i think islanders take pride in what they want and they go through things most other people go through

    ka pai boyzzzz

  • GREAT Song!!! =)

i've heard some others sing this but that Violence guy Vic came to our school and i saw this song and i began to really like it again lol!!!

people commenting about all the racism shit u shud really just stop..theyre singing and they making a point...thats all that really matters haha

  • they should make another one targeting violence among youths these days which in my opinion is really bad with whats in the news

  • so good to see the katinas supporting such an awesome cause. It's time we went back to the basics people. Even if it may seem like we're moving backwards. There was an issue that we chose to move on from, instead of addressing head on. This is an issue that requires us to go back our own roots and come to grips with. This is our 'now' moment that God will bring restoration to. Don't leave it to the next generation of kids trying to figure out where we went wrong. Blessings everyone!

  • yeyyyahhahahah

  • ^^ yur dry

  • @beingwhitesalright-

Your comment is not only intolerant but is against what this project stands for. These men are just a small example of people who want to stamp out violence in our community and should be applauded. If everyone spared a thought for one another and promoted change for the better (such as BAV) then this world would indeed be a better place. Being white is alright but don't be bring the rest of us down. God Bless brother

  • @late07 Sweetie, don't waste your time on small minded trolls like that. He wants to get a reaction out of others cause his life is so meaningless.

Concentrate instead on taking the step these wonderful poly brothers have taken and stand up to stamp out violence.

  • oh man this version is way bettah..! well onli koz this tym its new zealanders..! haha

  • @beingwhitesalright

What an ignorant thing to say!

To say all 'Coconuts' love violence is like saying all 'white folk' are wealthy.

These artists are just a handful of the many Pacific Islanders ready to take a stand against something that would make, an otherwise amazing community, better.

  • mad song go polys doin what they do best...........own the crap out of that rock stuff

  • ...some foo's beneath me ain't heard a thing...lol...I think i'll listen one mo' time...how boutchya? "...go from boy's to men...you will knooooo..."

  • @beingwhitesalright -

you're right about one thing, being white is alright but why are you using skin difference as an excuse to make an intolerant comment. Seriously, this group already knows that there is a problem with domestic violence amongst Polys hence the stand that they're taking. These performers are showing that there's power in peace and ignorant statements like the one you made only incite further violence. Keep championing the cause BAV and don't let the knockers distract you.

  • Go beautiful Poly boyz! Rockin the house wit those Pasifika stylez!

  • Is this screening on C4?? Positive msg behind this and loving the P.I. flava in the mix!!

    ps familes are forever1

so stop the vilonce and come together as one !!

may god bless the men who came togther this day!

  • Oh snap just realised the video was filmed in Otara. How fitting, considering Otara is probably where most of the violence occurs LMAO nah before you all hate I'm an Otarian HARD!lol Still be reppin' even after years living here in Australia. 274 WOTT!hehe

  • Why is there such a high rate of violence/murder within Polynesian families???? What is this born of....if you don't mind me asking. Not tryin' to be judgemental or anything cause, my family which is black have been known to tear into one another here in California, but thanks b to God that a life was never taken.

And one more thing. Y'all SUNG that song!! Yes indeed. Sounded GOOOOOOD! :-)

  • I think part of it is that we don't have the commitment to our children or families as we used to have. The other part is the lack of ownership and confidence to stay strong, away from substance abuse or anry solutions. T

  • Beautiful! From one Sister in America to my Brothers in New Zealand. This was good!

  • Hey thanx for the confidence - this song was for those of us to make a difference in violent families. T

  • I LUV IT!!AWESOME!!

  • AWESOME!!! Dis is definetly better then the Originals!!!Luv to my BROTHERS!!! SUPPORT THE CAUSE"VIOLENCE IS NOT THE ANSWER!!

    STOP BEING BLIND TO IT!!

  • Better than the Original...WOW..i'm impressed!..That's my cousin dee on the git with adeaze.

  • What do mean 'better than the original'? What? Because you're Polynesian, does that give you the right to discredit the beautiful black men that sung the original song? If you are so pompous to think that YOUR kind is better, why didn't they come up with THEIR own song then? If you don't like black people, DON'T REMAKE OUR SONGS THEN!!!

  • The whole purpose of showing this video was not to provoke any negative misunderstandings. Both musical versions are beautiful because it has the same message. So the reason why this song was chosen by Lua was to bring an awareness about domestic violence in NZ, just as BMU brought about an awareness of Black on Black violence...

  • ...so I guess maybe what 'Tupz24' really meant to say was that the BAV version could relate more to him because it was sung by people from his own culture. Tho Im not black the original version changed my life.

Peace to you my brother yorkuni.

If it wasn't for BMU I wouldn't have had the chance to sing at 02:05.

    ONE LOVE

  • This African American sister loves this version just as much as the original. You did a good job! I actually favorited this. 5^! and much love to my Polynesian brothers and sisters.

  • AMEN sis this hit is great but i still think ORIGINAL is thee bOmbest =]

    lOve tO all

  • You can sing! Brother Yorkuni just had a misunderstanding. Our African American brothers and our Polynesian brothers both sang the song with all their best. Stay blessed!

  • Brother Yorkuni, please don't misunderstand me. I got the Jason's Lyric soundtrack and will never forget this music video because the words really hit me about how our brothers were dying on the streets and are still dying today. If someone can take a song, and remake it with their own cultural improvisation (lovin' the ukelele and the acapella at 3:30) and do a respectful job, GOD bless them.

  • A Polynesian flavour which gives it the Soul of Sound (Ups to my Brother, "ony T")

  • Better? Oh please! BMU was the bomb on this track!
