BEAUTIFULLLLLLL!!!!!!! I love any version of this because the fact of the matter is violence affects every man and woman of all races. I thought this was sung beautifully and it would be a wonderful thing if these words cease to go in vain.
The original is much more poignant. The song is about knowing when you've become a man, and keeping your head up through the adversity that comes with inherited oppression.
Yet you can see watching this video the prevalance of the 50 year old BOY in NZ is severe.
Be original and stop trying to be staunch. The art of Soul and Gospel singing belongs to African Americans, how would you like it if you saw Marvin Gaye doing the haka or James Brown doing the slap dance?

so good to see the katinas supporting such an awesome cause. It's time we went back to the basics people. Even if it may seem like we're moving backwards. There was an issue that we chose to move on from, instead of addressing head on. This is an issue that requires us to go back our own roots and come to grips with. This is our 'now' moment that God will bring restoration to. Don't leave it to the next generation of kids trying to figure out where we went wrong. Blessings everyone!

Your comment is not only intolerant but is against what this project stands for. These men are just a small example of people who want to stamp out violence in our community and should be applauded. If everyone spared a thought for one another and promoted change for the better (such as BAV) then this world would indeed be a better place. Being white is alright but don't be bring the rest of us down. God Bless brother
To say all 'Coconuts' love violence is like saying all 'white folk' are wealthy.
These artists are just a handful of the many Pacific Islanders ready to take a stand against something that would make, an otherwise amazing community, better.
you're right about one thing, being white is alright but why are you using skin difference as an excuse to make an intolerant comment. Seriously, this group already knows that there is a problem with domestic violence amongst Polys hence the stand that they're taking. These performers are showing that there's power in peace and ignorant statements like the one you made only incite further violence. Keep championing the cause BAV and don't let the knockers distract you.
However, would've been cool to see Tulele Faletolu (from Hillsong Church) sing a verse on this as well....add to that his brother Tolu...WOW, would've been really something else.
Still...Awesome Vocals on this song anyway, MALO BOYZ:D

Our hearts go out to those featured in this video!! Its beautiful to see that someone out there really cares!! it also shows that there can be change!! what really makes me honoured is the sincerity of your words!! Bro's standing up for what is right in our world. I see there are a few comments below me asking why?? come on guys get with the know open your eyes its not just the polynesian NZ race!! They sing about change yous sing about smack your b**** up gettin some?? ...... Go hard!!!
when the people are one the families of the people are are also one and when a family of the community come together no one and nothing kan take them apart and understand the spirit of familes is a wonderful feeling!
Oh snap just realised the video was filmed in Otara. How fitting, considering Otara is probably where most of the violence occurs LMAO nah before you all hate I'm an Otarian HARD!lol Still be reppin' even after years living here in Australia. 274 WOTT!hehe
Why is there such a high rate of violence/murder within Polynesian families???? What is this born of....if you don't mind me asking. Not tryin' to be judgemental or anything cause, my family which is black have been known to tear into one another here in California, but thanks b to God that a life was never taken.
And one more thing. Y'all SUNG that song!! Yes indeed. Sounded GOOOOOOD! :-)
I think part of it is that we don't have the commitment to our children or families as we used to have. The other part is the lack of ownership and confidence to stay strong, away from substance abuse or anry solutions. T
the best song that shows what really happenz with the world today buht it my favourite song and i love it big upz to all youz brotherz against violence
ah no they didnt shame... soo i think you should actually think bout what you say befor you say it.. they just saying that its better the ppl that normaly sing.. nothing saying they HATE black people
shot vince, keep up the awesome work, love this version, inspiring to see our culture/kiwis to perform such an amazing song. i think it reminds everyone about how it first came out.
I know what that song meant to me as a young Black Man when it first came out, it holds a special place in my heart. My poly brothers did their THANG. We need more songs like this in the world today.
BEAUTIFUL! I remember when the origional version came out and it was and still is one of my fav songs. This one is just as beautiful and has brought me to tears.
...This is hearty azz... Too much to the men that put this together! Its about time to stand up for all our wahine & tamariki that are victims to volence...Too much alright!
What do mean 'better than the original'? What? Because you're Polynesian, does that give you the right to discredit the beautiful black men that sung the original song? If you are so pompous to think that YOUR kind is better, why didn't they come up with THEIR own song then? If you don't like black people, DON'T REMAKE OUR SONGS THEN!!!
The whole purpose of showing this video was not to provoke any negative misunderstandings. Both musical versions are beautiful because it has the same message. So the reason why this song was chosen by Lua was to bring an awareness about domestic violence in NZ, just as BMU brought about an awareness of Black on Black violence...
...so I guess maybe what 'Tupz24' really meant to say was that the BAV version could relate more to him because it was sung by people from his own culture. Tho Im not black the original version changed my life.
Peace to you my brother yorkuni.
If it wasn't for BMU I wouldn't have had the chance to sing at 02:05.
This African American sister loves this version just as much as the original. You did a good job! I actually favorited this. 5^! and much love to my Polynesian brothers and sisters.
You can sing! Brother Yorkuni just had a misunderstanding. Our African American brothers and our Polynesian brothers both sang the song with all their best. Stay blessed!
Brother Yorkuni, please don't misunderstand me. I got the Jason's Lyric soundtrack and will never forget this music video because the words really hit me about how our brothers were dying on the streets and are still dying today. If someone can take a song, and remake it with their own cultural improvisation (lovin' the ukelele and the acapella at 3:30) and do a respectful job, GOD bless them.
Man what do you mean OFF DA HOOK!!!! New Zealand styles up in hurrrrr!!!! All you singer's sounded AWSOME!!! So cool 2 see N.Z artist's & people of the community comin 2getha... One Luv uso's!!!
That was so awesome, really, very awesome, i love the lyrics, love the song, love you guys, I'm a kiwi living in the North of Auckland, you totally rock, so so cooool. thanks so very much. Ethan2Rock

Great job my these Polynesian men. All men regardless of nationality should sing and live by this song. Also, great added change up on the end.

I know what that song meant to me as a young Black Man when it first came out, it holds a special place in my heart. My poly brothers did their THANG. We need more songs like this in the world today.

GroovehouseBaby 3 years ago
...so I guess maybe what 'Tupz24' really meant to say was that the BAV version could relate more to him because it was sung by people from his own culture. Tho Im not black the original version changed my life.
Peace to you my brother yorkuni.
If it wasn't for BMU I wouldn't have had the chance to sing at 02:05.
ONE LOVE

You can sing! Brother Yorkuni just had a misunderstanding. Our African American brothers and our Polynesian brothers both sang the song with all their best. Stay blessed!
imhotep1 3 years ago 4
Brother Yorkuni, please don't misunderstand me. I got the Jason's Lyric soundtrack and will never forget this music video because the words really hit me about how our brothers were dying on the streets and are still dying today. If someone can take a song, and remake it with their own cultural improvisation (lovin' the ukelele and the acapella at 3:30) and do a respectful job, GOD bless them.

A Polynesian flavour which gives it the Soul of Sound (Ups to my Brother, "ony T")
