I agree whole-heartedly with trombonedemon. America does not appreciate its creation nor its people. Most of my musician friends make a very good living in places like Japan and Europe - but would be "starving artists" if they stayed in the USA. Countries abroad respect and appreciate this type of music. Most people, not all, are 50 years behind in their race relation.
cool , nils is a superb player , and maceo , well what can u say about him that hasnt been said already, the likes of marcus miller would of been all over that bass solo tho.
@improm2u Marcus Miller or Victor Wooten might have been all over that bass solo but Lars has a fantastic tone! Fits right in with that groove and it is fucking tight! Love it!
This is a killer song - you know why I like music like this...because you can't stay still while it's playin'!!!! The funk bone takes over and you just groove along !!!!!
Thanks so much for posting this, Dmitry77. I had this concert on video tape for years, but have since lost it. Would it be possible for you to post their performance of "The Chicken", as well? I'd be extremely grateful if you could. : D
PER LINDVALL, first time I heard Per "clicktrack" Lindvall with J:sson Lindh och herr J.Schaffer, 1980 MARIAHISSEN,STOCKHOLM.(he owned since he started up....
The Chicken is written by tenor saxophonist Alfred James "Pee Wee" Ellis... you know, the tenor saxophonist from the J.B. Horns. If you guys go check it on all official published works, you'll find it's not Jaco's tune. Jaco made it famous though.
The bassplayer is Lars Danielsson from Denmark and the drummer is the worlds most funky, incredible Per Lindvall from Sweden!! Haffner is not that good! Love this gang!
@gurrathes Yeah... right... Haffner not that good... I don't know from what planet you come from, but they obviously don't appreciate good drums from where you come from. Haffner kicks ass!

Just brilliant driving rhythm. Pity about the basist, LAME!!!! Would love to see basist Marcus Miller in that line up. Would have taken the jam to another level. Come to think of it Lee Ritenour would have torn it up!
I'm sure Marcus Miller would've put a whole different feel to this tune, but Lars Danielsson lays down some phat Rocco Prestia finger-funk for this one.

I agree with the bass being not good, this guy is busting like Les Claypool. works for Les but not for Jazz when Maceo is the leader and should be dominating here. just my 2 cents go ahead and vote thumbs down haha
Boy your dumb.. ever heard of Marcus Miller, Richard Bona, or Jaco Pastorius? Les claypool can suck a D**K. And I'm sure Maceo didn't care about Nils.
Damn, the drums are really simple but I'm totally jumping up and down in my chair from the first seconds. Groovy, wow! :-D

The other line-up is:
Nils Landgren, tr
Maceo Parker, sx
Lars Danielsson, bs
Henrik Jansson, gtr
Jesper Mejlvang, key
I was at this concert in Stockholm, and it was GREAT! There is a live recording from that concert on CD.
