There ARE some mushrooms that don't have doppelgangers that can't be easily spotted. For instance, the puffball. There are only three bad things that it can be mistaken for. Mature puffballs are filled with powder that isn't very tasty, but, along with earthballs, they can be easily spotted if the top isn't smooth and white or the inside isn't pearly white. The deadliest doppelganger is baby deathcaps or angel of deaths or somesuch (I can't remember which), but even those can be thrawted.

@true0illusions Just open it up and look inside. If you can see the outline of the stem and the cap, it's deadly. So to recap, if you think you got a puffball, make sure the outside is smooth and white, cut it in half and make sure there are no outlines, and make sure it's white through and through with no brown or black on the inside. Some other mushrooms (such as the morel) are just too weird for deadly counterparts. However, there are many deadly identical twins of many an edible mushroom.

I hate when people give thumbs down for comments like this, its so ignorant, shrooms basically do nothing to hurt you, pretty much any natural drug is not too bad for you. yet here we are in a society steeped in tobacco and pharmaceuticals that are all much more dangerous than any natural remedy or drug/entertainment.

True, they are drugs, That does not mean they aren't less harmful. Cannabis is extremely healthy, theories even suggest it is linked to the cure of cancer. Shrooms, they do nothing. except a slight possibility of inducing insanity if you are susceptible and have bad genes. you might have gone crazy anyway.

Cannabis is healthy if not smoked because the smoke is highly carcinogenous and care to cite the claims of the cure for cancer thing? I'd really like to see the study. insanity is a very passe term I prefer PSYCHOSIS because its more accurate. I'm crazy to begin with so no big deal if I get a little more.

Ha. You just said you have nothing to lose if you did shrooms =P. In my opinion i'm not sure that it could actually cure cancer, but i know it is a great help to isolate and prevent it, over half of the chemicals in Cannabis helps prevent/isolate cancers, as well as a giant number of other diseases. Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC the main active chemical in Cannabis actually is highly preventive in the mutation of cells. That is kind of why they prescribe it for Glaucoma friend.

Also cite man cite, I have no idea where you're taking this data from; most importantly it doesn't really matter what your opinion is on whether it can cure cancer its about what is reality or what actually happens.
