Because I am not sure how much spare cash you have, it may or may not be a "big purchase," but as a 16 year old with a long guitar playing career ahead of him, would you recommend buying a masterbuilt, or buying say a an American Strat, some pedals and a Schecter?

@Carthsgtr Definitely ranks in 'big purchase' territory for me!! It's hard for me to recommend what guitar you should buy as it's a very personal thing. All I can say is that US Strats are very well made. Go to a shop and play as many guitars as you can! That's what I do. Feel it with your fingers and listen to it, trust me, you'll know what to buy.

@Carthsgtr PMFJI - Buy a great guitar and great amp - you may not need or want the stomp boxes. Always buy the very best tools you can - you'll never regret doing that. Whether that means a Strat or a 335 or a custom axe from a local luthier is up to you - just please don't buy one that says "Made in China" unless you live there - support USA (or your local) craftsmen.

Master Built Strat but is was just a limited run Custom Shop. I paid a lot for it to. I should have done my homework but it is still a Custom Shop and is freaking great. How much was this one? I paid $6,000 for my limited run 59 relic with matching Pro Jr. I also do have a Cruz Custom Shop and it has his own decal on it and the people at Fender I was talking to and bought it from said it would always have a Masters decal on it if it is a true built master custom.

Where did you buy this guitar? I am wondering because you said it was master built but it has just a Limited Edition Custom Shop decal. If it where a true Master Built Fender there should be John Cruz's decal on it or signature. They might have made some like your's with just the Custom Shop Limited Edition decals on them that were made by one of the master builders. I hope so. lol I bought one of my Custom Shop Strats at Guitar center and they straight up lied to me and said it was a

@BluesinGuitarPro It's masterbuilt. It's not a ltd edition decal you're seeing, it is the John Cruz decal. Also, the certificate of authenticity is signed by John Cruz. The decal is the fender 'V' with John Cruz's signature above it with the serial number which starts with JC (because it's a John Cruz masterbuilt guitar)

I bought it from Soundsgreat in Manchester which is near where I used to live. It's a one-off and I spoke to the guy who ordered it from the custom shop. Apparently John Cruz was so excited about building this guitar he bumped it up the queue and they received it a year earlier than expected!!

Holy shiz, that thing is a beast! I have been thinking of buying a Custom Shop, and in particular the Aged cherry sunburst Custom deluxe and the 60s relic. Any thoughts on either of them? Pretty much every thing out of the Custom shop seems to be pretty amazing so it's not the easiest thing in the world to decide on whats best.
