Thanks for this review, was just introduced to the Fostex amp earlier today....the majority of my headphones are closed back as I find myself not using open back headphones at-home or on-the-go.

For the range I have (e.g. Ultrasone Edition 8 / DJ Pro-1, Denon AHD1100, AKG K550, B&W P5, Sennheiser HD-25-1 II, Shure SRH 840), sounds like the HP-P1 would serve these well?

Does the PICO DAC / AMP not compare well to the HP-P1, out of curiousity...

Thank you for the nice review of the Fostex HP-P1. I was interested in more detail regarding the review of the Fostex DAC since it is a 32 bit DAC. But more importantly, I was wondering about two things: 1. How does the HP-P1 compare to the much less expensive FiiO E17? and 2: How well will the HP-P1 drive AKG K702 headphones? Thanks!

I was about to buy a Wadia 170i, but now I am considering an Algorhythm Solo or HP-P1 instead so I can improve both my home rig and my portable one. I have a few questions that I hope you can help with.

1.) How do these devices compare to the Wadia, in terms of audio quality? My top priority is a good home transport.

2.) Is one better than the other as a transport? I assume the coax output on the CLAS is preferable to optical on HP-P1.

3.) Is the HP-P1 a good match for SRH-940?

Great review, it made me think that I could get an HP-P1 and pair it with an old 4th generation ipod I have to make a good digital source component for my hi-fi to provide continuous music for parties, would this be a practical option, ie will it perform ok whilst charging?

I would like to see if there is a way to improve the output of the ipod prior to jacking into my alpine car audio head unit? I would prefer not to use the 1/8" stereo input into the alpine hu

With regards to the big volume dial: How is the dial secured on the volume pot? If it's with a set screw, you could probably take it off and replace it with a lower profile dial.

Also, I like how you just tossed the away the dock cable and carrying case around the 3 minute mark

@Pnasalberta It won't serve as a DAC for your Zune, but you can use its headphone amp via the analog input. That would make it a very expensive headphone amp for your Zune, though (not to mention, a large-ish one).

This is unrelated to the portable amps and DACs you were comparing in this video, (very comprehensive, by the way) but I noticed you were using the N22 to power your P4s. Do you use an external DAC with that setup, and, if so, how would you say they measure up to the similarly-priced Head-Fi-recommended Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 + A1?

@InfiniteGaze Yes, I'm using a Lavry DA11 DAC out of either a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air (optical or USB, respectively). Unfortunately, I have not yet used the Maverick Audio gear you mentioned, so I can't answer your question about how they compare.
