is there another version of this song like a much clearer one? and are the volumes on this video appropriate? cuz i think it makes it sound more dramatic this way.
This is soo beautiful! I am Czech and im glad that i am! I get it from my moms side of the family. Im also Norwegian from my dads side. Its kind of a weird combination being Slovak and Scandinavian(: but i like it, i love all europeans!(:
this is a very poetic and beautiful music . It's a pity that some people show their nationalistic ideology , which drives to fascism , though folk music drives to fraternity between people . I am from France and I love slavic music but I hate all nationalisms .
This makes me so proud of my Czech heritage. :) My great-grandmother was Czech and she was gifted in beauty, talent, and intelligence. Czechs are truly a blessed people and I am proud of my Czech ancestors!
I'M FROM CZECH AND I THINK THAT IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU ARE! RUSSIAN CZECH POLISH SERBIAN BOSNIAN CROATIAN UKRAINIAN OR SLOVAKIAN! WE'RE JUST PEOPLE - SLAVIC PEOPLE - CATHOLIC ORTHODOKS OR MUSLIM WE'RE JUST PEOPLE!
@lambrenagym First of all thank for your compliments about our turkish and roma heritage. As it is widely known, algebra, astrology, astronomy, blackpowder and many other inventions are deeply related with the eastern culture. Thank you again for comparing us to gypsies. As we all know, gypsies are indo-european people just like slavs and germans. They live in allmost every country due to the fact they were entertainers what makes their effort noble. Respect to democratic and open-minded people!
I have a mixed heritage, of serbian, czechish and hungarian blood.
I'm blonde, white skinned and blue eyed!!!
And I'm more then proud of my mixed blood, and call me a "gypsy slav" if you want,
but you know what, I don't care! I love my ancestors, and the nationalities I originated from, and I would do anything to defend their honor and good name from the likes of you!
I'm sorry, but anyone who writes to me has to speak English in order for me to understand. Other languages are beautiful, but I'm afraid I am limited. (smile)
hi. can anyone here help me with differentiating between czech and russian folk music? I can't seem to tell them apart... just leave a reply or post on my profile. thanks in advance :)
Yes, I can help. Czech folk music has a lot more Hungarian and Austrian influence in it. There is even a touch of Celtic influence, (from old tribes in Bohemia), as well as a lot of German styles. from what I can tell, the particular song you are listening to is very much influenced by Hungarian music.
Russian folk music has some similarities to Czech music, but I would say that there isn't as much Hungarian and German/Austrian influence in Russian music.
@AmyLuAnne It is more ideology than ethnology, what you write about Celtic influence. I dont speak good english, but I can say: Czech folk music has something common with other slavic nations. But in Bohemia is a lot of German influences and in Moravia of Hungarian influences. For Bohemia is typical superiority of 3/4 or 3/8 bar and major scale. For east Slavic nations is typical superiority of minor scale and 2/4 bar.
can someone translate the title of the song into English? I recently visited the Czech Republic and it captured my heart, what a beautiful country and I know that my feet will carry me back someday
My 3rd grade orchestra students are studying Antonín Dvořák so I was looking for examples of Czech folk music that might be like some that inspired some of his compositions and I happened across this. LOVELY! Thank you for sharing. If you could let me know any other background on this song - how old is it? What region does it come from? It's just beautiful.
Thanks. How old is it? I´d say nobody knows, but it has been part of collections of 19th century songs. It comes from region aroun Plzeň (Pilsen), western Bohemia.
Prahra is a very nice city, the most beautiful city in Europe, it has many very beeautiful and old buildings, many more than my own beautiful city, København (Copenhagen).

Sorry guys...i read some comments here...
and i think its so stupid to differenciate people because of where they are coming from...
for me there is no first and second class people...so sensless
i have lots of international friends and sure czechs, slowakians, russians etc. are nice but serbians, croats and all the others too.
Its so stupid trying to seperate peoples..and i am quite happy that there are enough people who know that..nd the rest GET TO KNOW THEM BETTER!!!!

A very rough translation:
When I was shoeing the horses,
I was at my Anna's place,
she did not want to let me go
while there are still stars shining.
When we were saying goodbye,
there were no stars anymore,
I am saying to my love,
see me off for a while.
