Sigma Chi is true brotherhood I know this from personal experience. We are the leader of men, we are men of a higher standards and noble purposes. We are the men of Sigma Chi. In Hoc Brothers.
The standard with which the fraternity started was declared by Isaac M. Jordan to be that of admitting no man to membership in Sigma Chi who was not believed to be:
A man of good character
A student of fair ability
With ambitious purposes
A congenial disposition
Possessed of good morals
Having a high sense of honor and deep sense of personal responsibility.
Unfortunately I know a lot of Sigma Chi's at my school that do not follow these virtues. It would be ideal for these guys to be what they preach they are, however their recruitment does not prove this.
You can talk about friendship, justice, and learning all you want, but no matter what you say nothing justifies rape or sexual abuse.
This is not a blow to Sigma Chi, but more of a reminder to all Greeks to stay true to their morals. Wear your letters with pride, don't take them for granted.
@haxsummor More so recently than ever, the Greek system has been getting a lot of negative attention. Let's move towards making a true difference. Let's go back to the days that being a fraternity man was something to be extremely proud of, not just an excuse to "be cooler than someone." Being Greek isn't about social status, it's about finding your true self and giving back to our society. There is no "Top House" or "Bottom House" we are all here to make college a positive experience!
