  • I used the trick at 1:29 during my successful drum major audition at the University of Minnesota. Guess who I learned it from... Thank you George.

  • What year was this DMA? it looks really familiar, but i dont think it was the one i was at haha. George was a great person :]

  • With Pride <3

  • I remember many years later in a High School Band comp watching the best state bad march by with a proud Drum Major at the front, mace in hand. I yelled out, "Looking great, just like George Parks!" In shock, she came right out of character and looked right at me. With a big smile at each other, we both knew what that meant. George, you were one of the greats in Marching Band and Drum Corp!

  • August of 1976, Westchester PA. Drum Major camp under George Parks. Eyes wide in wonder... He taught me how to throw the mace and that I did in High School for the last two years. Three best drum major awards because of his encouragement. He was the groundbreaker for Drum Majors and made the mace a cool manly thing. His energy just was contagious.

  • What a boss!!!

  • Nice i really wish i have met him, now that im drum major... RIP G.N.P.

  • I went to the Indiana Music Educator's Association meeting in couple of weeks ago and our keynote speaker invoked the name of George Parks. The room got silent and I teared up, as did the girl next to me. We, two complete strangers, hugged each other knowing nothing more about each other other than that George Parks had impacted our lives.

  • If all who view these posting can remember the impact that one person had on the lives of so many the world would be a much better place. Take what you have learned from this incredible man and use it to your fullest potential as he did. You too can make a difference! With heartfelt sympathy to all who are feeling his loss.

  • I attended this same DMA 4 years ago, this man changed my views of leadership, and definitely has impacted me to this very day. He will be missed.

  • I shot this video at DMA 4 years ago. He was magical with the mace. Behind the back catches, catches after somersaults, he could truly do it all.

  • Thank You!!!! I competed against George Parks and the Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps (that's who is playing) and saw this many times. I just showed this to my wife and she was amazed. I 'm amazed that George could still do this routine and in shock that he is gone just a few weeks after he was at DCA to see his Buccs win.

  • This man changed lives. RIP

You helped me be the best drum major I could be and i still carry all the knowledge that you taught me..Thank you

  • Wow!!! This is hard to believe!

Most sincere condolences to the Parks family as well as the Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps Organization, University of Massachusetts and friends. It has been my honor to have been a personal friend as well as competitor over many

    years.

George was only 57 years old.... I'm still at a loss for words.

    Godspeed my friend...

  • @mypeeweeloveshooter

He so happened to be one of the greatest directors that music has to offer. Obviously you wouldn't know about Inspiration, Motivation, and the Dedication this man had to offer in all of the musicians lives. R.I.P. George N. Parks
