  • @carebearnmbr46 That is called a Golden Campine.

  • Hey Tara, nice chickens. So how many do you have now? How long have you raised chickens for? Any other animals? How is the weather down there in Texas? I have to get down there sometime, never been there, but maybe when it is cooler.

  • @kuhnmartin Hey Martin! I only have 2 hens now. I've had them since 2007. I have cats too (indoor) and I take care of outdoor cats as well. It is sooo much nicer down here now that the hot summer is over. There's so much to do here - come on down and visit me!

  • @taragruber22 Yeah, maybe I will. I have been wanting to go to Texas. Never been there. Will have to plan a trip down there sometime. I bet it's cold there during the winter.

  • @kuhnmartin Heh, nope. Not down here in San Antonio. Up in Dallas, Ft. Worth, yeah, but down here, we might get a few days that are cold. It's mostly very mild here during the winter and very hot the rest of the year.

  • @taragruber22 Oh, I HATE heat, love LOVE cold. Dark, overcast, cold, and raining. I should move to Oregon or Seattle but my heart is in San Diego.

  • They are such good pets. :) Your chickens are adorable.

  • @Schneeflake Thank you! :)

  • I too love chickens but when I talk about them people think I am strange. I am glad I am not the only one who loves these adorable creatures.

  • @ellie3637 Nope, you are definitely not alone. More and more people are getting pet chickens and it's hard to not to fall in love with them and want to talk about them all the time. :)

  • Love the way you c it! check out my rooster and his hens!....Thecadillac699........thank you!

  • hi, uhm, where could i buy a chick? one of those small yellow ones lol thanks

  • Is it really important for chickens to be around each other. I'm in no position right now to have one, but I am DEFINITELY getting one in the future, is it bad of me to only get one, or should i couple them so they're socialised?

  • @xxxmikiexxx Its better to have two but if you plan on interacting with your chicken and giving it lots of attention than I guess you could try one but their really social so its always alot better to have two.

  • Are chicken coops safe from cats and rats? plus does one chicken smell, if you clean it everyday?

  • Are chicken coops safe from cats and rats? plus does one chicken smell, if you clean it everyday?

  • is it hard trying to put them in the coop at night...do they every try to escape from your yard??/

  • no, they kind of instinctively return to the coop everynight at dusk. If I want them to go in sooner, I just walk into their run and they follow me becuase they assume I have food or treats with me.

It would be difficult for them to get over a tall fence. Most chickens can't really fly more than a few feet off the ground. Mine are challenged just walking up and down the 3-ft ramp that goes up into their coop. They're pretty content in their little backyard haven.

  • how do you keep them from escaping...what about cats?????

  • well, when they're not confined to their coop or run (the fenced in area that attaches to their coop) they are confined to the yard by the wooden fence we have on all sides. Stray cats come and go from the yard without any conflict with the chickens. They don't seem to view the chickens as a food source and/or they realize that the chickens are too large for them to attack and eat. Dogs are a much bigger danger and even a small dog will instinctively go after a chicken and kill it for sport.

  • Tara, I'm so glad you stopped eating chicken (unlike the other woman featured in the video). Your chickens and the chickens in this video are absolutely beautiful. I think chickens are one of the most misunderstood beings on our planet. They are social, with so much personality and their own unique needs. And most people have no idea about the different breeds. Gosh how I would love to have a pet chicken. (It's a little hard in Brooklyn, NY!)

  • Oh, thank you! Yes, you are so right about chickens being misunderstood. They are not stupid as many people assume them to be. They are sensitive and understand many English words and phrases and have their own little chicken language they communicate in. For example, I've noticed they all understand their own universal words for "Hawk!" and "Squirrel" and "Food!" all of which have their own very unique sound. After having pet chickens, I don't see how anyone could eat them - esp their own!

  • Do chickens like human interaction? I'm thinking about getting one. My friend, Nick has one, and his is so friendly. So you see many who like being around people/held/handled/ect?

  • Go chickens!

  • Hey hows it going? Everything is fine here.

I have the hardest time with the petchickensoftexas. I can't get anything to work on it. I was going to enter some photos for the contest but I can't seem to post it.

I hope all your birdies are doing fine. Mine are doing great. I feed them crickets and they seem alot healthier. take care

  • Hi, i got a question, well i recieved a chick today, well its a cute lil chick, but it's alone, do pet chickens require like partners, friends...because i feel bad for it being on its own...i keep it on a warm temp, because site says chicks need to be kept warm, im intending to change its water everyday because site says they tend to hate dirty water....any other tip or answer u may give me?

  • So cute!!! Hhhmmmm I couldn't eat chicken if I had a pet chicken...

Once I had one and my mom gave it away when he grew up and the lady killed him and invited us to come for lunch, I was grossed out. Never ate chicken again.

  • Oh, that's horrible! I'm so sorry that happened to you - that was not a nice thing to do to a child. It's amazing how insensitive some people can be. Ever since I got my chicks, I haven't eaten chicken and I don't want to anymore - chickens are so sweet!

  • I am under chickmom on youtube. I have a couple of not so good videos of my birds. I am sorry I don't know what BYC stands for.

Can you sew? I make my own diapers and costumes for them. There is a lady who designed the flight suit. She makes pants for birds from canarys to ducks and chickens. if you type in bird diapers or flight suits in google you can see them or I can show you some of mine. I think that the suits made out of cotton fit much nicer than the spandex kind that she sells.

  • Whoa that chicken diaper idea is awesome! :-D And great cause sadly chicken who aren't pets are victims of massive slaughter and egg industry slavery. So you're sparing them a whole life of misery! Yey for you!

  • I love them too. I am not as fortunate as you to have land for them. I live in the city, so I own two city chickens. They live in my house. They have their own cage in the basement and they wear diaper pants and have the run of the house. They really are the perfect pet. They are so much fun to have around.

  • Hi! Oh, I would love to get some chicken diapers and let my chickens run around in my house. I just love my girls (I have only 2 also). Are you on BYC?
