  • Normally Formby's songs were subtly suggestive. This song is just olain straight suggestiveness though!

  • @MBM1117727

So much so it were banned by the BBC for a short period :P

  • @BOT101st Yeah I forgot about that! Shows how much censorship has changed since then...

  • @MBM1117727

Very very true, there were values back then, but seems they want to promote more filth now a days :/

at least back then it was written in a very witty way!

  • Fuck the beatles this man is the true legend of british music!

  • @nomercyforpercy16

You'd be surprised, the Beatles were inspired by this man! :D

  • @BOT101st Maybe so bud but they were never a patch on Formby, they are the most over rated pile of sh*t of all time.

  • @nomercyforpercy16

Aye, i'm not really a fan of the beatles in all honesty, as you said they are a very overated group, such as every group is now..

  • its a banojolele in the photo

  • I have met many Uke players the last few years in the New England area - it seems to me that these players border on the fanatical (in a GOOD way) and many are members of Uke Groups where upwards of 50 players meet and share songs and play together. It is indeed an infectiously happy instrument as are those who "Uke". Formby was obviously a leader and an icon in promoting this particular instrument's prominence. To George Formby - Cheers, sir!

  • No dislikes.......speaks for itself!!

George played both the Ukulele and the Banjolele... ~.~

  • OMG oh my god : )

  • @mertonparka I didn't know this term...short for banjo ukulele? Is it commonly in use? (the term banjole, I mean).

  • fantastic the real mcoy

  • can everyone give me a translation? lol

  • @bubrockit Righto, old sock...Spend a pound (spend money); I'm rather rushed (looking disheveled); Dressed like all the sports (like all the well dressed guys) Little stick of Blackpool Rock (famous peppermint stick candy from the Blackpool area of London). Bat'n (Baton) Promenade (open air market) Pulled me shirt off (the candy is famous for being sticky) took me photographic cost me one and three (took picture, cost 1 shilling 3 pence)

  • @diddymuck Nice try matey, however I must correct you on the following:

Blackpool is on the North West Coast of Lancashire, England, on the coast of the Irish Sea, around 200 miles North of London.

The Promenade is the walk along the shore, which is lined with shops, arcades and the famous Blackpool Tramway. Part of this is known locally as the "Golden Mile", owing to Blackpool Beach's famously golden sands between North and South Shore.

    Hope this helps =]

  • @baggyaureol Ta.

  • @diddymuck Frankly, I think that any concept of the humour of George Formby and the context of the time in which it took place has gone right over your head.Just for starters, Blackpool Rock is not a peppermint candy and Blackpool is 200 miles north of London. This is not to mention the contribution that George made to the moral of British people during the dark days of the second world war. Are you in the USA?. If you are, that would explain everything!

  • @Nojnotpu

Rock is a type of hard stick-shaped boiled sugar confectionery most usually flavoured with peppermint or spearmint. It is commonly sold at tourist (usually seaside) resorts in the UK (like Brighton or Blackpool).

source of information: someone who knows more than you do....nyaaaa

  • @Nojnotpu "the Blackpool area of London" should have been "Blackpool area of England". so sue me.

  • Apparently he used to have a few Ukuleles tuned differently because he only knew a few chords.

  • A true legend, a true Englishman, totally unique, someone we will 'never' see the like of again... I treasure his memory, & his brilliant legacy of of fantastic music ! We love you george...

  • Love it

  • brilliant music. Truly brilliant.
