lol.. It's possible to take no divot if you have the right equipment. Phil using a low bounce 64 degree wedge makes this much more feasible than most peoples regular high bounce wedges.
That just highlights the difference between the good and the great. I'm off 4 and wouldn't even think that shots an option unless I wanted to be banned from the club for moon raking a green. In fact the shot wouldn't even be an option b/c I wouldn't have thought if it.
@toreman81 lol you really dont, honestly if you put all your weight on your front foot, you're gonna chunk the ground and it wont do what the shot is intended to do. When i hit flop shots my weight is more on my back foot and it allows you to get under the ball a lot easier to have it lob in the air and land softer. Having your weight forward would only chunk behind the ball and either have it go ten feet or skull it over the green. Dumbass
I love the look Ernie gives him after the shot like he can't believe wha Phil just did. The shot turned out alright as well although Phil didn't seem to excited. He was probalby trying to hole it ;)
i was in that situation during a high school tournament. but i knew id take a divot so i just putted it hard towards the hole through the rough, i actually ended up with just a two putt, but that was just luck.
@antonio3426 it isn't a penalty, I always wondered how you were allowed to do that because if you ground the Putter while hitting its a stroke, but you can chip?
@jdlmbgh like I said, there's no penalty for what he did. There is also no penalty for grounding your putter UNLESS it's deemed that you cause the ball to move, even slightly, before impact. Then it is a one stroke penalty.
@jdlmbgh its not a stroke to ground your putter on the green wtf your thinking of shots played from the hazard? because even if you dropkick a putt it only counts for the stroke of you hitting the ball
@rvwv89 Uhm, i don't think so, who the fuck uses a 64 degree wedge? It'd go like 20 fucking yards with a full swing, considering these guys can all just apply backspin to the ball anyway, so that ammount of ridiculous loft isnt needed.
@liambannin Well, Phil Mickelson has a 60 and a 64 degree lob wedge in his bag normally. So this one i surely the 64. I have a 60 in my bag which is fine for my style of play.
@liambannin - Time to get a clue. Phil generally carries 52°, 60°, and 64° wedges. The 64° of which is his favorite wedge. It is listed on his personal web site as "Wedges JAWS Wedges Chrome 52, 60, 64"
nice, bet there wasn't much bounce (if any) on that wedge. i could never play that with my wedge - the bounce would mean a big divot or a straight knife! 64degree i reckon
I was once about a 100 feet from a pin and had no putt either. I didn't flop it quite like that, but i pitched it a good 10 feet in the air and almost holed it (not lying). I also didn't take a divot but I can't imagine doing the same thing with a full backswing like he did (that's sort of nuts). However, the green is just like a super tight lie. You can hit the shot you just have to practise it and have the right technique. Great shot Phil.
His ball is on the green. He takes a wedge and with a full swing, hits a flop shot, leaves no mark on the green, and the ball nearly lands in the hole and you can't understand why that's good? You are either Tiger Woods or have never played golf.

that is impossible not to take a divot because to play this shot from this lie you have to have your weight on the front foot.

@toreman81 well, i was there and he didn't take a divot, so what's your point?

woods wouldnt attempt it. the margin for error is ridiculous, and its no accident that he doesnt stuff it up. awesome.

That would probably be his 64 degree wedge, no bounce whatsoever. Take a cut at it, and up she goes.

Awesome shot anyway

can we even play with regular clubs on the green? by regular i mean irons, woods and driver, not the putter.
trancetechnoboy 2 years ago
yes, you can. you can use any of your clubs. sometimes, a player gets angry and breaks his putter and has to putt with a five iron or his wood.
antonio3426 2 years ago 3
thats' the most ridiculous shot i've ever seen. Don't think i can do that even if i had 10 tries.

now you don't get any...you shouldn't chip on the green if it's not neccesary, but if you have to then they can't punish you for that...

His ball is on the green. He takes a wedge and with a full swing, hits a flop shot, leaves no mark on the green, and the ball nearly lands in the hole and you can't understand why that's good? You are either Tiger Woods or have never played golf.
