@tendra84 yea the song was called soulful, i remember they played that also as an encore at the catalina jazz club in hollywood, the pianist kept playing that sick bass line until he was the last one on stage, i don't think they recorded it yet but there is a live version of it on youtube
You might want to check out Nicholas Payton for trumpet or Donald Harrison for sax, but noone is as cool and smooth and versatile as Roy is... I just love his sound whatever type of music he plays...
thats the ultimate trumpet player i do looove this guy his energy is so seducing ..what a talent!!! soulfood not mere earfood keep up the good work roy
This is the cut he played to close out the Detroit JazzFest. If it hadn't been outdoors he'd have blown the roof off the place! Awesome. Love me some Roy Hargrove.
Yeah, this is by far his best album. It's too bad that the majority don't realize how much passion and hard work it takes to make music like this. This is why I very seldom listen to smooth jazz, hip hop, and R&B anymore.
still...don't you see how he takes those other genres that are, per say, MORE popular than jazz and melds them all into his music? He is using jazz to bring it all together and get everyone involved with it!
I got that album. It's his best ever. Doubt he'll ever be able to top it either, lol! Then again, Roy's at that point in his career where music like this just might end up coming out in a steady stream of creatively inspired releases...

@tendra84 @tendra84 Look at our video (I cannot post a URL for it on this comment thread) "Roy Hargrove Quintet Performs 'Soulful'"
I think this might be the song you are thinking of, though last time I saw him, they ended with Ameen Saleem on bass instead of the piano.

just love this sound. It's so fine, so easy - yet virtuous, love their harmonies, how they catch up with each other... just keep it going on&on...
