I don't think you understand what fair use is. It doesn't mean you can use it whenever you want. I'm an EMF major & learned a lot about this. You can't use it for entertainment purposes which is pretty much what everyone on youtube uses it for. The fair use is actually very limited as to what you can use it for, but trust me none of you qualify to use a song legally under the fair use. If you want to use a song, you need to buy the rights for a one time use which is pretty expensive. Ur welcome.

@thegreatMSG They pretty much just claim to let everyone know it's their shit and not yours. They would fine you, but since you're anonymous on youtube, they can't. So they put annoying ads and mute your videos because that's all they can do. Your video is harmless, but they still view it as stealing. Other people have to pay to use WMG music (like major motion pictures, etc.), while people on youtube are using it for free. They aren't getting money from you or your video, so they take it away.

@thegreatMSG Oh...well thats different. Was the song you made 100% original? Like did it include any of WMG's original content? Or did you just make the music yourself & remix it? If it was the latter, they had no right to claim it & you couldve refuted the claim as a mistake. Usually when videos get popular, the companies notice. If it wasnt their music, then they probably mistakenly claimed it. If you said it was unclaimed for 2 years, then it probably was a mistake. Did you refute the claim?

@thegreatMSG WMG owns a lot of rights from various artists. I guess they just happened to own the rights to whatever song you used. The artists that make the music don't really claim copyright on different videos. The bigger companies like WMG, BMG, etc. do that for them. It was probably copyrighted the entire time, WMG just didn't find it until later.

One critic on the 'personal use' part. Putting your video on YouTube is not 'personal' anymore. But i fully agree on the non-profit part. I would advice you to explain to the lawsuits what the word COPY (Identical) really means. Once THAT gets through their (WMG/RIAA) thick skulls, and you 'screw up' your (copyrighted) music some sort of a way, it is no more a copy (identical). My 2 cents ;)

the copyright laws are different in every country, mine are not disabled anymore but they are blocked in some countries, you may have to use the disclaimer for every video containing music owned by WMG

if they mute your audio track, dispute the claim, by copying and pasting the disclaimer where it tells you to explain briefly why you are disputing it. i did it, and they un-muted it straight away.
