  • i dont have that problem. i use a cast iron pan that i seasoned. or cook you first pan of bacon and drink the grease with a shot of jack daniels, then eat the bacon. then it will taste amazing.

  • cook bacon in the open. set to 400 put bacon in on a tray in cold oven.

    Flip bacon after 12 or so minutes. Remove at about 20 minutes or desired doneness.

  • If you start the bacon off slow, it creates its own grease, no need to add more and sog the whole thing up. Now using a little of the bacon grease to cook eggs after, that is a move to make.

  • wayyyyyyy easier to cook bacon in a toaster oven or convection toaster oven, takes less time and is perfectly crispy.

  • Every cook should be reserving bacon grease. It's fantastic for any slow saute you want to do. I use it all the time. Not great for quick, high-heat applications because the smoke point is so low, but you can raise it a bit and still that smokey bacon flavor by mixing it with a little vegetable oil or some other neutral flavored oil, non-animal oil.

  • I've never noticed that my first batch of bacon didn't taste good. I just cook bacon and its good.. no problem.

  • EVO should never be used to cook with, as it destroys the flavors and turns it into the equivalent of cheap oil. Olive oil also burns far below the temperature that bacon cooks at so, by suggesting EVO or OO as a substitute, you've proven you should never be within 100 feet of a kitchen.

  • but then that would taste very different. we have an ancient breed of pig called "mangalica", exclusive to our country, which has next to no cholesterol in its fat. i think the problem is most pigs are fed with dead pigs and other carcasses that is why they are unsafe to eat, primarily.

  • Yes but olive oil doesn't taste quite as good, and you can't re-use it as easily as bacon fat. The bacon would probably just cover up the flavor of Extra Virgin olive oil too. But I'll use Olive Oil for other, more delicate, foods.

But it's not my issue what you do to yourself, only what I do and don't do to myself and I'm quite happy in that dept, as well as with results so I've no issue.   • My roomates did this, and we ended up with a huge jar of grease sitting in our fridge, filled to the brim. Somebody eventually knocked it over and it got all over everything, and bacon grease is IMPOSSIBLE to clean up with anything short of industrial strength cleaners.

  • Hopefully you wedgied your roommate afterwards for leaving the bacon grease in the fridge ;)

  • You just need something that dissolves fat. Standard dish soap does this.

  • My roomate did something like that, and didn't want to help clean up, saying he wasn't the one that knocked it over.

    My other roomate then proceed to empty the rest of the jar on the first roomate's pillow, saying it wasn't his fault, because he didn't put the grease in the jar in the first place.
