Two absolutely different guitarists .. very hard to compare. Clearly, in just about anything, Blackmore's classical influence shines through, not to say David doesn't have his classics. The main difference between Gilmore and Blackmore is Gilmour constructed beautiful solos, which he repeated every night virtually note for note. Blackmore on the other hand, being more spontaneous, brings something new to his solos every time he plays them and he thus has a far more extensive body of work. Blackmore for me - more virtuosity, more variety, more spontaneous and hence more adventurous.

Well first came Gilmour and I am always impresed by the solos he played on those songs, very full and well done signature solos. But then Blackmore came on and my heart rate jumped up a few notches. The thing about Blackmore is: What solos do you pick for a competition like this? He has recorded so many ass-kicking solos, whereas Gilmour has some very good signature solos but not nearly as many. Also, I like fast guitar solos and Blackmore is the king in that regard. Blackmore wins for me!

i agree with a previous post,Ritchie is very underated, i love pink floyd #1 fan as a teen,but comparing guitar players look at their body of work,Gilmour and Page are pretty much retired,Hendrix died young with a handfull of records,but Ritchie is still recording-still touring-the medeival genre may not be for everyone but if you can see him,he's incredible,last of the greats and probably the greatest-check out his discography he must have 25-30 albums-not counting compilations

Gimour is a beautiful, soulful player but Blackmore should win on the breadth of his work. While Gilmour sticks mostly to slow blues playing, Blackmore has successfully mastered rock, blues, jazz, classical and even funk (though he claims to detest it, check out his funky playing on the intro to the studio version of You Fool No-one).
