From the video, I thought it was about two girls falling in love with one guy, he marries them both but society frowns upon that, even though it is natural to have more than one mate (in nature's term; look at animals). I think the two women kill themselves in a way to make it look like the guy murdered them. That way, they won't be judged in the afterlife for being together.

He cheated on his mother a lot, and Cocorosie grew up in the back of an old car, being taught by their Anthropological parents. "Our hair is in the garden" (notice the hair in Bianca & Vicki's faces. In other words, the video tells the story of lovers, but the lyrics are about their father (check out werewolve "he had your hands and my father's face, another different vampire"

My guess is the two sisters were very sheltered, and the the guy was a traveling gypsy. They met and fell in love. Because gypsies were executed at the time the video is set in, the guy was hanged. When the girls found out he was going to be hanged, they poisoned themselves, and died together right before him. It really doesn't have anything to do with "polygamy", they were just both in love with him, and he was in love with both of them.

@smallhoundlike the animal sounds (as well as the noises) are the key to complete the whole story. without them, this song goes plain and incomplete. if you have noticed about the lyric, then you will also see why CocoRosie put the noises into the song; the scene isn't empty, you're in the forest and in front of a huge willow tree. the noises are "not fitting in with the rest" because of the mismatching gains uneasy feeling to the audiences, which is essential for this creepy song.
