Wonderful playing! check out this band from Scotland called Havana Swing playing Gypsy jazz. Havana Swing @ Samois 2010 - 'After You've Gone' there are around 50 video clips of this band. enjoy!
Wow! This version really jumps, but I would expect no less from Bernard after seeing/hearing his work with Eddie in Avalon those many years ago.Copying Benny someone said...IMHO only slightly, but in many respects, he soars higher and better than Benny ever did!
Great group too...super group really! I am just realizing that Europe has jazz artists who can beat those from North America!
European jazz artists beating North American jazz artists? That's quite a thing to say :P. But I absolutely agree with you. In many ways, I prefer this to Benny's version :).
I know some are going to hate this comment but here it goes: Bernard has excellent faculty, but I simply don't understand why he would wish to immitate Goodman as he does in the beginning--especially when he does so well through his own style. Very poor. Let Goodman be Goodman and Bernard be Bernard! Far more powerful.
but every player has his own style--even in playing a melody straight, and as a player you don't have to play verbatum to give thanks. Are you familiar with the CD Eddie Daniels did (Benny Rides Again) in tribute to BG? Now there is not one lick in that CD that sounds like Goodman, yet Daniels plays homeage to Goodman in his own way, and ends up with one of the finest jazz CD's around. It takes more thought to begin and end fresh rather than begin with some else and end with yourself .
You should also check the album "roots" from the rosenberg trio were Bernard Berkhout just rocks the house whith his clarinet!

Dont want to upset anyone but for me Bernard plays jazz from the heart
Eddie Daniels is more text book. Now thats only my opinion dont forget.
As a 77year old drum vibes clarinet player I think I have had enough experience
to say this !!!

Thanks for the compliment. I just love Goodman, I think we jazzmusicians owe him much more than he's given due. Hence these tributes. grts Bernard

@callmeBe because he has to play first the melody of song and then to improvise as bernard berkhout, that´s jazz...

Clarinettist Bernard Berkhout is nog longer playing with 4beat6. Instead he has refounded the Swingmates.
