Sorry, don't like this. It's corny and completely inappropriate given the characters and culture of the people involved to have a 1990s pop love song.
Are you serious? How is an 80s American pop song appropriate for the relationship between Rivers and Sassoon? This is wrong on so many levels not to mention anachronistic. Bryan Adams wasn't singing about the 'love' between two men. You might as well use Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You. And what's weirder still is that people seem to LIKE this youtube creation. It's horrible!
what an amazing video. it sums up my feelings about rivers & sassoon, completely!
we read regeneration at AS last year & totally fell in love with the characters. we even went on a pilgrimage to craiglockhart! (damn napier university knocking half of it down)
Thanks for commenting (again!) :-) I've been to Napier/Craiglockhart, although what was left of the original building was covered in scaffolding so we couldn't see much of it, but the war poets' section was interesting to see.
hi just wondered if anyone has anything on Sassoon's great poem "Everyone Sang"???? It's my stimulus for A level dance and really need to find some research on it!!!
Have you read Regeneration by Pat Barker? Rivers comes across as an extraordinary rock of a person...even makes one feel ok from the pages of a book! Sassoon, I agree, Sassoon rocks.
Yes, I've read all three books in the 'Regeneration' trilogy, in particular I was much enamoured with The Ghost Road as here we find out more about the 'pioneer anthropologist' and the work which Rivers really put his heart and soul into in the Torres Straits and Melenasia. I agree, WHR Rivers was an extraordinary, kind-hearted man and sorely missed by many - although I think also Mrs B deserves some credit for her excellent writing skills ;-)
Absolutely. And both Wilby and Jonathan Pryce were excellent choices for the film, I think. Thank you very much for this. The film is not available now.
You're more than welcome. Thanks for commenting. No I haven't, but it is on my 'to see list'. I agree with you, James Wilby and Jonathan Pryce played their roles very well. Incidentally I met Pryce after his show Glengarry Glenross at the Appollo Theatre last Saturday. He vaguely remembers playing Rivers ;-) It was a great film although it did have several mistakes, e.g. the presence of Pryce's wedding ring (as can be seen in this vid).

@cloverboat totally agree - it's because most people are not that bright or aware of the history and realities of the age.

Amazing. I saw Jonathan Pryce once in Covent Garden, in the eighties, and he sort of glowed. A lot of presence, like a force field.
