  • i jus started mma, and i have strong hips to bridge and toss from a scarf. but the thing is wen im on top holding a scarf i dint noe exactly wat to do. but watching these vids honestly made me learn couple of new things. thanks everyone !

  • nasty ! i like this move

  • Catch Wrestling for the win!

  • @gaBehcuoDsuoitneterP I am student of Erik Paulson's Combat Submission Wrestling. I am not a direct student of him, but he would be considered my senior instructor. I am a student of a certified coach of CSW. I use the title of Sensei out of respect, though it is his official title. I guess rather than calling him Professor when hes showing BJJ techniques, Sifu during JKD techniques, etc. we just call him Sensei Erik. Wasn't trying to sound pompous, just showing respect/habbit

  • Ari san,

I tried this out the other day, and found that with only one hand against his arm I did not have much mechanical advantage and it became a contest of strength and even with the head pulled away, my partner was able to easily resist. What am I likely missing that will give me more leverage against his shoulder? Thanks.

  • Why not going for the Ude garami?

  • is that a brown belt? or a really dark purple?

  • @OMaggard316

    purple.

  • @SamSalutan its and arm lock.

  • you sneaky sonova... I love it!

  • Don't you normally grab your own leg in scarf hold? I have never seen it done by holding the guys arm.

  • Thank you for more armlocks from the Scarfhold position; could be useful in the Judo dojo, and IF i ever get attacked and i'm on the ground. I prefer the Scarfhold of all pins.

  • I got a pin off this!

I did a headlock throw and quickly transitioned to the Floating Americana.

Not only did I do it successfully, but I also got him to "give in" because of the arm bar.

  • is it a crank

  • @clipophile I know man it was a joke

  • Any reasons which you would go for first between this and the anaconda vice in the last video as they are both from the same position?

    Thank you.

  • Nice

  • No catch wrestling tag? I recall this being at the very least implemented by Sensei Erik Paulson in his CSW lock flow series, and thought it had it's origins in Shoot or Catch As Catch Can wrestling.

  • @ColombianComplain I had actually said that this probably came down the CACC route. Erik is a great instructor to be sure!

  • @ColombianComplain Why do you call him Sensei? Don't think I've seen a student of his ever call him Sensei. Does Erik require you to call him Sensei or are you not his student? Just wondering.

  • @ColombianComplain Everyone wants to reintroduce CACC as their unique Jiu Jitsu moves, a la Eddie Bravo's CACC guillotine. Call it the Twister and you make bank on your DVD, giving passive attribution to it's origins while calling it something completely different. Wish Sakuraba would start busting in on these guys as they're reintroducing this stuff to the world and subbing them with the hold they're trying to teach poorly.

  • Your videos are great! My concern in this one however is that I practice judo and traditional jujitsu, and if someone sits as high as you do in this video doing a kesa gatame(scarf hold), we will just roll them. They won't have time to work that ude garami(armlock). We roll people all the time that sit high in kesa gatame because their center of gravity is too high.

  • @kingjutsu1 i have used or tired to use this one in kesa gatame and been flipped plenty of times. With the head control i always find they look as that as the threat rather than the quick americana. Also the instructional style on this one really reminded me of my Aikido days against people who grapple.

  • Cool

  • Congrats on the purple belt! Your vids rock.

  • .....so is that a head crank

  • question that seems like a weak grip could he not escape by extending his arm sort of like how you try to stop a kimora just asking

  • What is the reason for using the monkey grip on the arm instead of using your thumb?

  • like the new intro/outro clips. Thanks for the reminder on this one. I had it done to me a million years ago and forgot about it. I think I'll break it out tomorrow.

  • Would this work from side control going for the Americana behind the head?

  • thats cool im gona try that next lesson

  • our school specializes in scarf hold techniques. really cool to see some exposure for these.

  • its sad that most people have never seen stuff like this before, when really its just Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling. its nothing new or innovative... people were doing it a hundred years ago. all we are doing nowadays is just re-learning catch wrestling moves and renaming them. mma grappling is evolving into catch, nogi submission grappling is evolving into catch as well. im no catch practitioner, but ive done my research, and if you do yours, you'll come to the same conclusion.

  • @luchador1764 yeah i know what you mean. when i roll i put catch wrestling as my way of graplin

  • Ah... this is a little better than what I do... faster and harder to reverse. NOTED!

  • who would dislike this

  • You guys changed your mat colors? I thought the blue and grey were a cool look!

  • is it a crank?

  • Only in America

  • If you are in scarf, about 90% of the time you can get this. It's pretty sneaky if you are fluid with it. I have noticed, though, it's easier to get when guys hip bump you because they tend to forget about their arm and focus on their hips. So when they hip bump you have a good shot at "chicken winging" their arm and locking your hands in.

  • This is awesome, gonna try this today when I roll.

  • i love scarf hold...its my bread and butter... but i couldn't get the last submission from scarhold you posted to work:/... i just keep trying, ill give this one a try too

  • Hey Ari, your purple belt is cool!! Thanks for your videos...

  • Smooth guys... I like it.

  • @GameMug no. you better tap because im a deaf when i grapple.

    lol, jk.

  • @GameMug Yes. Its called a verbal submission.

  • @GameMug yes

  • Whats old is new again. This is all very similar to the old shoot wrestling lockflow series 1. This stuff was very popular in the late eighties and early nineties in the JKD community after yori nakamuras started teaching it in out of Dan Inosanto's school.

  • thanks for all these attack videos from kesa. i can really use these in judo!

  • Anything with Ari is an Automatic thumbs up

  • I am so trying this on Monday.

  • As a wrestler with a good head and arm throw I just to thank you for all these awesome scarf lock attack videos! They are very much appreciated.

  • @soulinite You are very welcome my friend. Enjoy!

  • @soulinite Any good wrestler can defend a head and arm, watch out on that one.

  • @Melermometal Any good wrestler can potentially defend any throw. In a fight nothing is 100%.

  • @Melermometal That's true of any take down.

  • Sneaky, I love it!

  • sweet, thanx!

  • sweet intro!

  • Hurray for the return of Ari's instructional videos!!!

  • @turmat01 Yes! the return of Ari! It is awesome.

  • will this work if my opponent is a lot stronger than me?

  • Someone did this to me last night I wondered what it freaking was haha

  • Scarf Attack options from scarf hold. This is a simple and fast submission.

  • @Submissions101 Ari wont your back get taken from this postion? your not blocking his hips from escaping or his far side arm

  • @SelttikS his arm is around his opponents head, the body cant go to his back without the head going with it and the head cant go anywhere

  • niiiice
