Well, if you're up against a hyper massive rock and you know for sure his preflop 4bet-range only - and only! - consists of aces.... well, in that case.... NO, you still just can't fold kings preflop lol. You never make a mistake pushing it preflop with kings but you often do by folding them. If you're indeed up against aces you just say "nice hand", take your jacket and leave the table. Cooler are part of the game. That's poker.
lol, almost as bad as the video of a guy folding pocket Aces preflop......as it turns out that guy would have lost to quads, but that's not the point. With pocket Aces or Kings you want to see the flop, no matter what it costs.....otherwise, what are you doing playing poker?
@69aussieguy the guy who folded aces didnt want to risk coming up against someone flopping a moster against him when he was 140 grand up and had his NAPT passport secured. which is fair enough
@Shadow766 Hey, I know he would've lost and it was a different situation. But the reason why you should care is because if you have pocket aces (or kings for that matter) preflop and you let someone scare you off playing, then you don't belong at the poker table.....it's time to find yourself a safe game which isn't played for money. Poker is not for those who get so stressed that they lose sleep at night worrying if they made the right call or not :-)
@alwaysallinneverfold weird fold? KK is the 2nd strongest hand in all of poker, but if you aren't seeing a flop you are ahead 1/169 hands will have you beat. That is AA. 33bigs means he's either got a monster or he doesn't want to see a flop. He could do that w/AK,QQ maybe even JJ in his case. alwaysallinneverfold fold KK pre. See how well you do in poker
@jiamonx2 Actually, it's only 1 in 169. You'll be beat 1 in 20 times by average hands, and after being raised like that his opponent either had AA, AK, QQ, JJ or the same hand. So that's 1 in 5 to 1 in 4. He had a good amount of chips and he just didn't want to take the risk.
Seriously, when I'm playing high stakes, I fold sometimes fold Queens out of position.
@jiamonx2 Exactly. Queens are a totally different hand than kings. Your odds of being beat in that situation with queens are a lot higher than kings. Laying down queens there might be acceptable, but not kings.
In tournament poker you play to win, not survive. You're not going to win a tournament folding kings every time someone three-bets you.
@Run4God33 I think everyone is reading my comment wrong lol, the way I worded it may not bring out the sarcasm I intended. If you had read my supporting facts "ahead of 1/169 hands" you would realize my conclusion "see how well you do in poker" was referring to you would lose a lot by folding Kings pre. I never fold kings pre, unless I was playing and a reg decides to raise instead of shoving, and another reg decides to min/re-raise the guy. that's when i'd fold kings pre
if you get scared there you are playing stakes that are waaaay too high for you,its a clear reraise situation, should probably never fold kk preflop, unless you have a dead cert tell
@robswift008 True. Most people comment this high stakes-tourny plays like it was a sunday night with your friends. But the higher you go, the looser you play
well little less than 3x BB from UTG and reraising a reraise to 5x the reraise, I'd get scared too. I'd only call though... I think folding is a bad decision but I think I can understand why he layed down KK. I ran into AA when I had KK thinking I had the nuts plenty of times and got beat.
If Jason Alexander called, the Kings may not have been good, but the pot odds would have been good enough to call and hopefully flop a set. If Alexander re raises Raymer instead of folding the 3s, then the Kings fold makes a bit more sense. All in all, no, not folding Kings here and I think most NL holdem tournament players would agree.
There was a raise, a call, and when he reraised, he was re-popped for more than four times as much. He couldn't just call, because if an Ace came on the flop..he would be faced with an INCREDIBLY difficult decision. It was either all-in or folding. He chose to fold, which, given the circumstances, wasn't necessarily a bad idea.
There is many better players then you can imagine, and you never heard about them. Cause somebody is not a poker superstar doesnt mean, he is nobody ;o) Cant fold KK? Go and teach to do that. He fold, cause only other way was send all in and risk crash with Aces, why risking with chipleader? Any ace had chance to win. You realy want to risking whole tournament for one bad read? Only unlucky fold, but no worst. Preflop, after 3-4 all ins, for example, you must fold AA.
@DukeBalaor "Preflop, after 3-4 all ins, for example, you must fold AA." THAT right there is the STUPIDIST comment I have EVER heard in my life. WOW you're dumb.
I dont mean it seriosly, but mind was, more all ins, you can have AA and you win only few times. I fold aces, once time in my life, 4 all ins were, 2 shortstacked players. Could mean conectorst, anything. Thank god I fold AA, cause many times you lose againts 4 players. Of course, I said it too hard, you couldnt fold, but if you are smart, it is better way to play :o)))) Pro. Just start using brain.
@DukeBalaor There is NO WAY in the world I would fold preflop when I KNOW FOR A FACT that I have the best hand. Sure they can "suck out" on you, but you are always the favorite entering the flop. Folding AA preflop is just stupid and means you are playing VERY scared. This guy in the video is an absolute moron. Raymer is a pro, he is capable of making those moves with the worst hand. Worst fold in the history of poker right there.
I don't care if he's an idiot! What a priceless poker moment with Alexander going "Ican't look at you with those..." the Raymer's gogles :-D, and the "We're getting a little Hollywood" + "Since you couldn't call it had to be a good fold cause you're not throwing away Aces or Kings" :-DDDDDD
I'm pretty sure that if I was playing back at an opponent with Jacks, one of the hands I wouldn't want him to have is Kings....the dude was shaking in his boots.
hahah i folded kings yesterday in a cash game preflop, you have to trust your reads and sometimes you are going to lay down the best hand, he ended up having AK, sometimes you are going to fold the best hand
@theman1819 u cant just go on ur "read" u have to think about the odds aswell , i mean the only hand that is beating u is AA and the likelyhood of having AA and KK in the same hand is small so ur best off stickin ur KK in because most of the time ur being called by QQ or AK/AQ maybe JJ depending on the people ur playing with
@CUCKOO9999 The game was 1-2 no limited, i raised under the gun $15 had one caller in middle position, and then the big blind re raises me $60. Me and the big blind are both big stakes with around $500 and the guy in middle position only had about $75 after he called my inital $15 raise.
The dude who raised it was an older man who was pretty conservative, he was the only guy at the table I didnt want to reraise me. You have to fold kings sometimes
@A7Xcrazy47 lol yeah it was a bad laydown but im kinda glad that figured out that i could lay them down, it takes quite a lot of discipline but cash games are quite different from tournys
@theman1819 you would still be losing by folding KK pre-flop, tourney or cash, because you are not getting any value from QQ, AK, even JJ like that situation there. As Dan Harrington said, if they have aces, you can always catch a king on the flop, turn, river
For anyone that is wondering why he might fold kings:
He might have been wanting to get in the money, and if he thinks Raymer has aces (or even flat calling and seeing an ace would be bad) he'd want to fold the kings for a better chance to make it in the money. Remember it costs $10000 to enter the world series main event, so lots of rookies to it (like him) will play scared money.
@lollerskates321 Because it is quite easy to get your money in against like 2 outs or better in the WSOP ME. And the kings likely only had at best 30% equity against Raymer's range. So Easy fold and wait for a donk to double you up with bottom pair even though you are a nit and probably would never bet even 2 streets without the nuts.
They were on the bubble at this point. The guy didn't expect Raymer to be that agressive and re-pop him for that much without the nuts or close to it. There was another instance showed after this were another guy mucked aces aswell and was actually right. The payouts in this tournament are pretty good just inside the money so everyone was just waiting for the last few players to go broke at this point and that's why he decided not to take the risk. My 2 cents.
@Rull3n1990 This was not even near the bubble. It was day 2 and blinds were at 300/600. The bubble in the ME its usually at day 4. It was a bad LD, Period.
I once folded pocket kings. It was so nitty but I was really short stacked (only 3 BBs) and there was a 3-bet behind me and the tourney was just one knockout away from the money. The tournament lasted ten hours and I didn't want to put all that time in only to go home with nothing. I was happy just to burst the bubble. For the results oriented, the guy who 3-bet behind me did have aces.
@stinky472 i once folded kings but not because i am an amazing poker player haha he told me he folded queens when i went all in and he showed me queens and he was super tight so then i had kings and he raised me by about 3-4 times my bet and i thought well if he would fold queens then theres only one hand he could have whcih was aces so i folded and he showed aces lol!
@KuppaTee maybe but i'd really like to see how the sponsorship works because there are hundreds of players at these events with full tilt and i doubt they're staked. Possibly just come and say hey you want a free shirt and hat?..well you're now on team full tilt
@KuppaTee online qualifiers (AKA: Lucky donks) have to put these logos on their close. Its part of the deal. The Poker site pays you the entry and hotel and you have to waer their logos and show the world where the donks plays.

Remember it costs $10000 to enter the world series main event, so lots of rookies to it (like him) will play scared money.
lollerskates321 1 year ago

My 2 cents.
Rull3n1990 1 year ago
@Rull3n1990 This was not even near the bubble. It was day 2 and blinds were at 300/600. The bubble in the ME its usually at day 4. It was a bad LD, Period.

I once folded pocket kings. It was so nitty but I was really short stacked (only 3 BBs) and there was a 3-bet behind me and the tourney was just one knockout away from the money. The tournament lasted ten hours and I didn't want to put all that time in only to go home with nothing. I was happy just to burst the bubble. For the results oriented, the guy who 3-bet behind me did have aces.
stinky472 1 year ago
@stinky472 i once folded kings but not because i am an amazing poker player haha he told me he folded queens when i went all in and he showed me queens and he was super tight so then i had kings and he raised me by about 3-4 times my bet and i thought well if he would fold queens then theres only one hand he could have whcih was aces so i folded and he showed aces lol!

samauripizzacats101 1 year ago
@samauripizzacats101 But he's got all those Full-Tilt logos on his clothes. Doesn't that mean he's sponsored by them or he's on their team????
KuppaTee 1 year ago
@KuppaTee maybe but i'd really like to see how the sponsorship works because there are hundreds of players at these events with full tilt and i doubt they're staked. Possibly just come and say hey you want a free shirt and hat?..well you're now on team full tilt
samauripizzacats101 1 year ago
@KuppaTee online qualifiers (AKA: Lucky donks) have to put these logos on their close. Its part of the deal. The Poker site pays you the entry and hotel and you have to waer their logos and show the world where the donks plays.
maurito1975 1 year ago
@KuppaTee Sponsored by Full Tilt.

@oldcreppy No, Full Tilt pays people to wear their patches for advertising.
