its like this, pretende you haven't seen the series nor read any of the books.Do one of the two entirely then go do the other, you feel disappointed if you first watch the tv show then move on to the books, but you feel excited the other way around,of course the series is better,it has michael c hall,i dont care about any differences the writers put on the tv series,as long as it keeps being awesome as it is now
once I got used to the fact that the books and the TV show were different in so many ways, I started to enjoy the books even more. I read a lot of negative reviews on the books, but I noticed all the negative reviews compared the novel to the TV show, so that´s the problem right there. Don´t get me wrong, Dexter is my second favorite TV show of all time, but the books are great despite what a lot of people say.
@naal13 i agree. I over all felt the same vibe from the show and the books but what i had to get used to was dexter being more of a sociopath in the show and him a narcissistic psychopath in the books.
@Not0naFriday I completely agree. I felt the third was SUCH a deviation from that pure style Lindsey had in the first two novels. I honestly haven't been able to bring myself to read the fourth yet...
I'm shocked at how much more I love the T.V. series. I usually prefer the books.
@Commentator25 Well, the show has the benefit of being able to change writers and get fresh ideas, whereas Lindsay has to develop the character and plot all on his own.
@Commentator25 Well, first season and first book are very close, both the very best. 2nd book was great, so was second season. 3rd season kinda sucked, 3rd book was bad. 4 season was awesome, 4th book was average. 5th season was "meh", 5th book rocked! Especially when Dexter killed someone as a gift to Deb! 6th season has been pretty bad, 6th book was up and down. Rita and Brian still being alive in the books and being friends is funny.
I love the tv series, and I love the books. I will say his latest book "Dexter by Design" is the weakest, and shortest of the 4. I also believe, the whole intent of this one is to open the door for the next book, and I'm just guessing the title of that one will be "Darling Daddy Dexter" or some other cutesy title. If you're already a Dexter fan, you won't mind this latest chapter of your fav slasher's life, but thos oblivious to Dex's world probably won't be won over by this one.
