This game was beautiful in every aspect, the battle system was intelligent but also not difficult to master, the graphics were beautiful and actually distinguished it from generic JRPGS, and it was meaty as hell, the game had tough enemies and dungeons that weren't a single corridor. Fanboys can suck it, this was FF tactics the movie not FF12, the ratings don't lie (near perfect scores across the board), the hate on this game is purely because it isn't anime, there, I said it.
@garethmanEXE ill have to agree with you 99%. the only thing that pissed me off about this game is the rediculous grind for certain things. (getting an ice entite halcyon made me want to kill a puppy). i also hated how instead of chests with good gear being there, you ran the chance of missing things if you didn't have a guide to help you find them. honestly who the hell would stumble upon certain things.

4:05 - 4:51 Best part of the song. You get a little bit of the melodies from the village and overworld themes mixed in there. Reminds me of the same music direction in the last two battles in Chrono Trigger. The music will then start to feel pleasant and uplifting right before it drops down to an epic battle to the death.
Worst soundtrack in the entire series. I hate this fucking composer. He uses literally the same 3-5 instruments for EVERY track for EVERY game he composes. It's fucking annoying. And none of his tracks are forgettable. Really lame final boss theme. Blegh.
@Multifridgeman No it does not. Every track in FFXII sounds exactly the same.
Well yeah, it's your opinion, and that's totally fine, but I think it's silly to deny that most of the tracks use the same exact instruments over and over again. For every game he composes.
@dandynood I've changed my mind about the composer since I started playing XII again. Some of his tracks are WONDERFUL but this is still a mostly bad final boss theme. @MyotisSeraphim excuse me but if you take an rpg(which might i add role playing involves the word story)

@kawrght I've been gaming almost all of my life. I have my 'facts' straight. Just because I do not consider story to be the most important part of a video -game- means I'm not a gamer? That's utter BS. Sorry, but just because I don't conform to what you consider appreciation of the aspect in question, does not mean that I'm not a gamer. I haven't insulted you in the slightest and here you are slinging insults such as that with me. I was giving my opinion and responding to yours. That's all.
@MyotisSeraphim seriously? are you guys really bothering to argue about each others' opinions, myotisSeraphim's opinion is that gameplay is more important to a game, while kawrght's opinion is that story is important most, I personally believe that games require both to be good (with some exceptions for different types of genres). both of you guys have opinions and so does everyone else in the world. Just let everyone have their opinion then everybody will be fine and dandy.
If you ask me, a video game is a story. A sotry where you move it along. I dont give a crap what the gameplay is like. The only reason I play games is for the story.
@zingodoom That's good, I enjoy them as well, I just don't think it's the defining factor is all. I honestly can't say I'd play a game soley for the story, I'd rather read a book for that. I think that my main point is that I like it when I myself am able to determine the direction the story goes via my own gameplay actions. That way, I get the best of both- a fun game and an interesting story.
After listening to the soundtrack of XII I'm beginning to realize that perhaps even XIII is amazing and each of the FFs are masterpieces but for different reasons. I think XII's music makes it the masterpiece :s and XIII has ridiculous design.. like the Eidolons. FF XIII had so much flashy stuff I just call it Final Ecstasy Glam Teens.
Is there a Final Fantasy that doesn't have amazing Final Battle music? FF6's Dancing Mad, FF7's One-Winged Angel, FF8's The Extreme, and FFX's Otherworld are all so memorable. Maybe FF9's (It wasn't horrible, just wasn't that memorable)
@GeminiBreaker The only ones that didn't stick with me were IV's and XIII's, but other than that I've played every one (Yes, all XI's too) and I have to agree with you that FF final boss themes are almost always amazing. Still working on XIV's (hoping I can finish what they've got while it's still free), but if it's anything like the rest of the music in the game it should be fantastic.
@GeminiBreaker FF13 and even if they are not Final Fantasy, play all of the Kingdom Hearts chapter the final battle music aren't at the level of FF, but the game is awesome
@Razorshadow73 It's your opinion and I respect that but really? The majority of KH tracks are repetitive, light-hearted Disney oriented themes which are far from epic. Only Forza de Male, Fragments of Sorrow, Mysterious Figure, and a few other KH tracks are at the top with FF music. Yoko Shimomura is a GREAT composer but I feel that the quality of her music is downgraded due to that Disney influence. I hope FFVersus13 allows her to be more consistent with her music. =/
@XxKuRoTsUbAsAxX Really, they are only repetitive in the sense that many of them use the same instruments. Actually, I just realised, I was generally talking about battle themes and such. But I still only see a Disney influence in those MEANT for Disney themes. Most of the FF tracks are nice, graceful and good for putting you to sleep (that is in both good and bad ways). But KH has lots of... Well, it's hard to explain. Hold on, I don't have enough characters remaining. I'll reply twice.
Huh, I know I haven't looked too much into this but I finally beat the game at levels 80 for 3 of my characters and allmost beat the game 100% but im pretty sure for the whoal final boss theme for me I didn't remember this theme track being played...It was more of a strange up beat harsh, idk its strange. Could somebody explain this to me? XD
Imperfect, but still great. Sure it played itself a bit, but I enjoyed the tweaking. And like any FF, grinding enough could overcome ANYTHING. Some of the characters were disproportionately characterised, and after the original creator left the ebautifully crafted plot just fell apart a bit. But it is still a very, very good game. If nothing else it had excellent production values - graphic quality, attention to detail, voice acting, and soundtrack. Apathetic, I understand, but haters?
Damn! Could this be any more epic!? Feels like this should be in a movie; During the beginning, everything is dark and the bad guy is slowly transforming into a demon and then at 1:55 , a flash, and the demon guy is standing right in front of the protagonist. Why is it I always do that?
@AvgnFanSite Close. It's actually a discussion, and he starts to transform at 1:55. In case you didn't know.
God, I'd hoped FFXII would skip the whole OWA effect. It was a bit more grown up than that I'd hoped. And very underwhelming as a fight too. Disappointed me, I adore this game.
How can someone not like this game, i mean the world Ivalice is so beautiful with all the temples and deserts, i could spend hours just walking around lol
all the final fantasy games have somthing special ff 12 was a great game and competed well against the realese of the xbox 360 i was not keen on the battle system but the story is sooo goood i love cid he must be the most insane chararacter ever
@RinoaDestiny Did you slap your brother? I would have. But, a lot of the music in Final Fantasy XII are very memorable AND hummable. I just LOVE the cerobi steppe music.
It's one of Sakimoto's best battle themes to date. That part always gets my blood pounding. It really feels like you have to fight and win without exception because if you don't, there's no second chance. At the same time, it's so heroic and epic that you know that you *will* and *can* win because you don't have a second chance. I also love how he wraps the two themes together.
I loved the bosses in this game....it took more than just a couple swings to bring it down! You actually had to strategize, time yourself, and constantly stay attuned to the ever-changing dynamics of the battle itself!
@Phoenix117UK So true. I remember fighting this boss and suddenly the music changes, and I was like "oh, crap." And I just paused the action and sat there for a second. It was epic.
@Andy345345345345 I definitely agree with giving bosses tons of health. Heck, they could have done what they did with Hell Wyrm and Tiamat, although the thing is, those battles are VERY time consuming. x_x It doesn't help that their Defense rises when they are near death either.
But, I never tried to let these things bother me too much. (This excludes Zodiark. I don't think I've ever encountered an extra boss that was such a pain to defeat >_<)
Despite the fact I had a hard time following XII's storyline, I still love it. The size and exploration of Ivalice, the detail in every location..One thing I love most about it is the soundtrack, and I will say, the final boss theme is epic. It gives me the feeling of what my characters (particularly Ashe) are fighting for, that Vayne has to be stopped no matter what.
One of my problems with the game, tho, is the invincibility bosses get.
I don't understand why people are hating this game so much. The day it came out, I wasted no time paying for mine when I had a PS2, and I don't regret playing it one bit. You could run around anywhere you wanted to, the combat system was different but easy to master. Sure, this game dealt with politics, but so what? The game's graphics were spectacular, good new gameplay wasn't so bad. The bosses and Espers were awesome. So why is everyone bitching?
@TheMonotonousBastard That would have been some badass shit if Sephiroth had that move, but FF7 would've been fuckin impossible to beat and the technology for Gigaflare Sword didn't exist yet.
i hold FF7 as the best (my opinion) but each FF brings something tothe table (except XIII ugh lol). Tactics and its remake War of the Lions (my second favorite) had an AMAZING politically oriented story and XII follows close behind (same director). Not many games have political influences, that separates 12 from the rest and I like that
@TheMonotonousBastard I will admit, FF7 is epic as hell, and second best FF I've played....Nothing tops FF6. and FFXIII....Ew...A female protagonist...That instantly turned me off the game-Hell they had a female protagonist for FF6, but the story didnt revolve around her, it revolved around the entire GINORMOUS party. I loved that game...I hope they remake it someday...<.<
I find the core battle mechanics interesting, but I don't consider this one of the better ff's. I consider myself an FF fan, but I've spent a long time gathering my critiques of it and not just "the story sucks" and "the gameplay is boring". It's true that there are conservative fans hating, but it's just as easy to conform to the anti-conformists and stick to "people hate anything new," which is a blanket statement that could also come back to attack you later
Can you fan boys shut up, you call your selfs FF fans but you don't love this?
Not loving XII means you guys are not FF fans at all. Always whining about the game, OMG BORING GAMEPLAY, OMG LAME STORY, OOOOOMMMMMGGGGG LIKE SERIOUSLY, WTH IS THIS *drag queen's voice*
My friend is a big fan of the final fantasy series and told me that this game was crap. I borrowed it for a week, and told him it was one of the best FF I've played. I took a look at his game with him, looked at his gambits....His phoenix downs were his #5 gambit...
After seeing how self-righteous, and whinny about video games they are. And after they keep hating on when Square does something different. I've come to this conclusion:
Final Fantasy fanboys/girls.....need to seriously grow a pair.
If you didn't feel anything for the characters then I think you might just hate people in general for the characters are realistic like us in the sense that they aren't demigods, they don't control the universe and the world doesn't give a shit about them, like our world. Despite that fact it doesn't stop them from pressing on and intervening when need be, like us.
@TheSirJecht I agree! Yet...isn't the whole "demi-god" non realistic feel what FF is about? This was a good attempt from Enix and it doesn't get the respect it deserves - since enix took over FF's havent been that great tbh, but over i accualy liked this game last boss was just 0.0 managed to get him into his final form then he just kapowned me lol -.- (did enix make X-2 btw?)
@miningchild: The people (or at least the big known employees) who made this game are all original Squaresoft employees who go back as far as FFI. Enix employees only work on Dragon Quest and other non FF or Square related titles. The demigod feeling is not what FF is about, it's about good vs evil, love, blah blah, etc but never about being overpowered at least for the protagonist story wise. That feeling is the villain's goal...
@miningchild: Yes you can summon a fire hell demon, get zombified and live and survive direct hits from meteors but the moment you get shot in a cut scene all of sudden nothing can be done by anyone and you die. This is why you still have hospitals and doctors in FF instead of just Hi-potions and cura, most are still regular people outside the battlefield screen.
@TheSirJecht rofl just looked over my comment (feel lil bit stupid now *scratches head*) dying ingame (rather than during cut scenes) isnt accually dying - your characters get KO'ed (knocked-out) but I do sometimes question this slight immortality - and forgive I didn't know that the same guys who worked for soft still work at enix
@miningchild: Yes I meant that immortality on the battle filed is different from cut scenes. Also it's okay many people think that Enix has ruined FF when in fact most of their employees stick with their IPs and rarely have a large role in FF games unless they were hired to company after the merge, which most who work on FF now weren't.
@chrisishot2 well i just beaten the game a few nights ago but i havent beaten the whole thing yet but im still playing theres alot of secerts in this game and im gonna try to do them so i hope i can do it soon ^_^
This Final Fantasy is an asbolutely incredible installment in the series. The depth of the story and how you could easily hypothetically relate it to the real world is astounding. That, in combination with fun, innovative gameplay and a divine soundtrack make this one amazing game.

Top Reasons why I/You/We should love Hitoshi Sakimoto's music:
1.) He composed some amazing JRPG/T (T for Tactical) RPGs (FFT/FFTA,FFXII(YMMV),Tactics Ogre, etc.)
2.) He ALSO composed challenging shumps (with his buddies) (Radiant Silvergun, Gradius V, etc.)
3.) He ALSO composed scores for an anime which is loosely based on William Shakespeare's greatest plays in world history. (Romeo X Juliet)
So, you agree?

That isn't really true. With all the stuff in XI, being online, there's plenty of content.
XII has tons of hunts and sidequests and has a lot of things to find if you only go out and look for yourself.
And XIII is commonly viewed as easy by those that haven't gotten very far or don't try out the different paradigm combinations against certain foes.

That's all.
MyotisSeraphim 8 months ago
@MyotisSeraphim seriously? are you guys really bothering to argue about each others' opinions, myotisSeraphim's opinion is that gameplay is more important to a game, while kawrght's opinion is that story is important most, I personally believe that games require both to be good (with some exceptions for different types of genres). both of you guys have opinions and so does everyone else in the world. Just let everyone have their opinion then everybody will be fine and dandy.
GamingIdiot42Neo 8 months ago
@GamingIdiot42Neo I agree with you, they are both important indeed.
I just don't like being insulted, in this case someone that doesn't even know me claiming I'm not a gamer because I enjoy playing games.
MyotisSeraphim 8 months ago
@MyotisSeraphim
If you ask me, a video game is a story. A sotry where you move it along. I dont give a crap what the gameplay is like. The only reason I play games is for the story.
zingodoom 5 months ago
@zingodoom That's good, I enjoy them as well, I just don't think it's the defining factor is all. I honestly can't say I'd play a game soley for the story, I'd rather read a book for that. I think that my main point is that I like it when I myself am able to determine the direction the story goes via my own gameplay actions. That way, I get the best of both- a fun game and an interesting story.
MyotisSeraphim 5 months ago
@MyotisSeraphim EXACTLY!! and this is actually my first (and favorite) final fantasy.

Well, if there's one thing that hasn't changed about the Final Fantasy games, it's the amazing music.
Deminaku 9 months ago
After listening to the soundtrack of XII I'm beginning to realize that perhaps even XIII is amazing and each of the FFs are masterpieces but for different reasons. I think XII's music makes it the masterpiece :s and XIII has ridiculous design.. like the Eidolons. FF XIII had so much flashy stuff I just call it Final Ecstasy Glam Teens.

B2thelastoise 11 months ago
Is there a Final Fantasy that doesn't have amazing Final Battle music? FF6's Dancing Mad, FF7's One-Winged Angel, FF8's The Extreme, and FFX's Otherworld are all so memorable. Maybe FF9's (It wasn't horrible, just wasn't that memorable)
GeminiBreaker 11 months ago
@GeminiBreaker The only ones that didn't stick with me were IV's and XIII's, but other than that I've played every one (Yes, all XI's too) and I have to agree with you that FF final boss themes are almost always amazing. Still working on XIV's (hoping I can finish what they've got while it's still free), but if it's anything like the rest of the music in the game it should be fantastic.

To me Born Anew (FF13) was really awesome!
XGiftedGamerX 11 months ago
@GeminiBreaker FF13 and even if they are not Final Fantasy, play all of the Kingdom Hearts chapter the final battle music aren't at the level of FF, but the game is awesome
strhal1990 11 months ago
@strhal1990 in my opinion, KH tracks are far better than FF, though Square Enix has this awesome ability to choose epic music for their top games ;)
Razorshadow73 10 months ago
@Razorshadow73 It's your opinion and I respect that but really? The majority of KH tracks are repetitive, light-hearted Disney oriented themes which are far from epic. Only Forza de Male, Fragments of Sorrow, Mysterious Figure, and a few other KH tracks are at the top with FF music. Yoko Shimomura is a GREAT composer but I feel that the quality of her music is downgraded due to that Disney influence. I hope FFVersus13 allows her to be more consistent with her music. =/
XxKuRoTsUbAsAxX 10 months ago
@XxKuRoTsUbAsAxX Really, they are only repetitive in the sense that many of them use the same instruments. Actually, I just realised, I was generally talking about battle themes and such. But I still only see a Disney influence in those MEANT for Disney themes. Most of the FF tracks are nice, graceful and good for putting you to sleep (that is in both good and bad ways). But KH has lots of... Well, it's hard to explain. Hold on, I don't have enough characters remaining. I'll reply twice.

AvgnFanSite 1 year ago
@AvgnFanSite Close. It's actually a discussion, and he starts to transform at 1:55. In case you didn't know.
God, I'd hoped FFXII would skip the whole OWA effect. It was a bit more grown up than that I'd hoped. And very underwhelming as a fight too. Disappointed me, I adore this game.

@Strife56
RinoaDestiny 1 year ago
I loved the bosses in this game....it took more than just a couple swings to bring it down! You actually had to strategize, time yourself, and constantly stay attuned to the ever-changing dynamics of the battle itself!

I don't think I've ever encountered an extra boss that was such a pain to defeat >_<)

dandynood 1 year ago
Despite the fact I had a hard time following XII's storyline, I still love it. The size and exploration of Ivalice, the detail in every location..One thing I love most about it is the soundtrack, and I will say, the final boss theme is epic. It gives me the feeling of what my characters (particularly Ashe) are fighting for, that Vayne has to be stopped no matter what.
One of my problems with the game, tho, is the invincibility bosses get.
mokechan 1 year ago
I don't understand why people are hating this game so much. The day it came out, I wasted no time paying for mine when I had a PS2, and I don't regret playing it one bit. You could run around anywhere you wanted to, the combat system was different but easy to master. Sure, this game dealt with politics, but so what? The game's graphics were spectacular, good new gameplay wasn't so bad. The bosses and Espers were awesome. So why is everyone bitching?

i hold FF7 as the best (my opinion) but each FF brings something tothe table (except XIII ugh lol). Tactics and its remake War of the Lions (my second favorite) had an AMAZING politically oriented story and XII follows close behind (same director). Not many games have political influences, that separates 12 from the rest and I like that
TheMonotonousBastard 1 year ago
@TheMonotonousBastard I will admit, FF7 is epic as hell, and second best FF I've played....Nothing tops FF6. and FFXIII....Ew...A female protagonist...That instantly turned me off the game-Hell they had a female protagonist for FF6, but the story didnt revolve around her, it revolved around the entire GINORMOUS party. I loved that game...I hope they remake it someday...<.<

@AlucardHellsing97 i dont see why having a female protagonist should turn you off. the reason terra is likeable is because she's well written

@TheSirJecht
They also don't have rabbit ears and a ghetto booty. Like me.
strikerk 1 year ago
@TheSirJecht I agree! Yet...isn't the whole "demi-god" non realistic feel what FF is about? This was a good attempt from Enix and it doesn't get the respect it deserves - since enix took over FF's havent been that great tbh, but over i accualy liked this game last boss was just 0.0 managed to get him into his final form then he just kapowned me lol -.- (did enix make X-2 btw?)
miningchild 1 year ago
@miningchild: The people (or at least the big known employees) who made this game are all original Squaresoft employees who go back as far as FFI. Enix employees only work on Dragon Quest and other non FF or Square related titles. The demigod feeling is not what FF is about, it's about good vs evil, love, blah blah, etc but never about being overpowered at least for the protagonist story wise. That feeling is the villain's goal...
TheSirJecht 1 year ago
@miningchild: Yes you can summon a fire hell demon, get zombified and live and survive direct hits from meteors but the moment you get shot in a cut scene all of sudden nothing can be done by anyone and you die. This is why you still have hospitals and doctors in FF instead of just Hi-potions and cura, most are still regular people outside the battlefield screen.
TheSirJecht 1 year ago
@TheSirJecht rofl just looked over my comment (feel lil bit stupid now *scratches head*) dying ingame (rather than during cut scenes) isnt accually dying - your characters get KO'ed (knocked-out) but I do sometimes question this slight immortality - and forgive I didn't know that the same guys who worked for soft still work at enix
miningchild 1 year ago
@miningchild: Yes I meant that immortality on the battle filed is different from cut scenes. Also it's okay many people think that Enix has ruined FF when in fact most of their employees stick with their IPs and rarely have a large role in FF games unless they were hired to company after the merge, which most who work on FF now weren't.
