  • Phil that is horrible. Bobby come on with the shorts man!

  • maybe I'll find direction around some corner where it's been waiting to meet me Sounds like a plan

  • Phil wrote this song for his father, who was dying of cancer. I played this song almost constantly during 1995, the year my father (and Uncle Jerry) died.

  • having fun :))

  • Jerrys smile when Phil signs to Bill what song he is gonna sing is priceless

  • well there ya' go

  • great show! Phil is the man!!

  • Hard time hitting the right note and what about those HIGH notes...still the best band around ever

  • @InspectorRuss yeah, this must have been around the time when Phil was starting to lose the ability to sing because of years singing in the wrong octave for his natural voice or something. It's in his book and such, they talk about it in more detail.

  • sweet shorts Bob

  • @caszper87 lol thats bob's new nickname "sweet shorts bob"

  • a little flat there bob

  • Yea XDrums, you see how Jerry laughed...

  • So precious!

  • LOL 1:04 "BOX....OF....RAIN"

  • @phishinvan in the American Beauty and Workingman's days these guys were recieving serious vocal training from Crosby,Stills, and Nash

probably one of the only times they were serious vocally

  • Happy Birthday Phil! Thanks for the 45 years of music

  • Jerry Garcia is for deffinatly my nigger although tecnicaly hes not

  • This has to be the most crappy version of this song i have ever heard

  • @clickswitchh that's how goood the shtuff is out here! LOL at how hard they are tripping right now :)

  • @clickswitchh That is only due to the fact that you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about, so now you can go and chase yourself jackass!

  • WOW the vocals are awful here. Great song, but fuck, come on.

  • the thing is, phil can't sing for shiiiiit.

  • @Millarpro I still can't get how he sounded SO good on the original American Beauty recording. They didn't have auto-tune back then, and even if they did, it still wouldn't have done that good of a job.

Maybe his singing just degraded over the years. Who knows. Still a great song. The American Beauty version still brings a tear to my eye.

The Grateful Dead...A true AMERICAN band. I love it.

  • I WUZ HERE!!!

  • I was there!!!!

  • @funxyzzy ME TOO!!!!!! :>)

  • This was a great show! I had just flown back from the Bahamas and brought a big conch shell. We got folks to line up along the back rim of the amphitheater and when I blew the conch, we all rolled down as one 'unbroken chain'. If you were there, you remember getting kicked in the head! Thanks for the memories.

  • I love how short Mickey's shorts are!

  • @r4wmaterial nobody went to GD show to listen to vocals, dumbass

  • Inch your way through Dead dreams to another land.... :-)

  • The harmonies just blow me away.

  • I was at the Hampton Spring 86 show when they broke Box Of Rain out again. I was the first person in the building, 1st on line with my taper friend, and I remember the security guy saying.."the keyboard player said they have something big in store for you all tonight."

  • actually i've changed my mind, this is awesome

  • And everyone knows bobby isnt gay, not too many people were better at getting laid then him...

  • Good memories - this show was a blast! (who cares what shorts Bob was wearing anyway - we weren't there for a fashion show!)

  • ahhhh its kind ................

  • Bob is such a fag...

  • lmao hahaha may i ask y? i always hear people say that with no good reason to hate on him lol

  • LOL I'm not hating on him, just observing. I mean, look at those shorts!

I remember a guy asking the Dead why Bob looks like a girl to which Garcia replied:

"Hell, back in the '60s sometimes Bob looked better than a girl..."

  • hahaha i hear you on those shorts haha i have some deadhead friends who were on tour for 20 years and such, they say that bob sucks! we will be listening to an epic show and a good bob tune would come on.....they would say fuck this and skip to the nest tune. i always got pissed. lol but they had no reason. ide ask y and all they would say is he just sucks! haha

    peace bro

  • LOL, I guess it his lounge singer voice and his goofy personality; e.g. "I'll be stir-fried." It's an acquired taste.

Although Ace is one of my all-time favorite albums.

    Peace

  • lol he is goofy huh? merry xmas my brother

  • He often kills the mood. He has some of the worst song choices in dead history totally derailing some epic segues that were building. He has many shining moments but I understand where your buddies are coming from.

  • eh, to each his own. lol

peace love and light my brother

  • I was there at Shoreline the day before this concert, and it was so cool 'cause they made a movie of the Summer Solstice concert and I saw some people in it that I had seen when I was at the show the day before. I was visiting my sister in Mountain View and a 'miracle' occurred - her then boyfriend got me a ticket to the show!!

  • phil is the man!

  • "you're gunna have to ask phil"

  • was it "we want phil"?

  • Phil's gestures to Mickey and Billy at 1:05 are priceless.

  • @XDrums34 ... Everyone knew what was up after that....

  • @XDrums34 Phil is priceless...this song touches me....I always loved it when Phil sang.

  • @XDrums34 we all want phil! :)

  • It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago..........................That beautiful beautiful crowd, oh how I miss you .

  • Oh to go back...

  • Great musicians.

  • well look who i came across haha. God bless the Lesh

  • hahaha

  • epicness

  • I missed them this time around unfortunately. I remember in 2004 it was $35 to see them on the lawn. I hope there's another tour like that. they can't go out like this. Stick with the outdoor amphitheaters PLEASE! You need to be out on a lawn to appreciate a dead show.

  • They are going to the outdoor festival Rothbury in Michigan, july 4th, check it out

  • The Rothbury line-up is SICKNESS! The Dead, BK3, Willie Nelson... it goes on and on!!!

  • totally, although I saw em in 04 and then caught them in some of the big boxes they played and it was so different. Almost like the difference between a good sounding 60s tape at fillmore east compared to west. I loved the outdoor stuff. Spring-Summer '10?

  • thanks for the video, wish I could go back to those days too. Dead concerts were the best , great times with friends.

  • This is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago :)

thank you for sharing this one!! This was my first show (deadhead from Germany, in case anyone remembers ;) ...)

  • Cover the kids eyes,Bob has his "nuters" on again. BCNUJER
