@csno1 Most of my Chinese friends at university do have spacious gardens / lots of wealth. They bring lots of money to my university. The gap between rich and poor in China is large, space is at a minimum due to a tendency to settlement in industrial centres. A greater middle class is emerging and suburbs are being built. China has more land and space to accommodate 'spacious gardens' in future, than the UK. It's still emerging.

@csno1 So Csno, my idea is rather than suggest we should keep Britain 'English', it would be better to make it greater by developing it's economy in a sustainable direction, competing in a globalised world, producing goods or services that other economies can't as well, intellectual property, education, high value engineered technology, banking and other services. Other factors are culture (the arts, science, spiritual, ethics, research in all fields), GNH, HDI etc.

My idea of 'greatness' is transcontinental, similarly to the classical European musicians that inspire you. You may say that music and beauty are subjective, but we both know that classical music in terms of intricacy, skill and beauty transcends pop, irrespective of whether the majority say it doesn't.

@csno1 Most of my Chinese friends at university do have spacious gardens / lots of wealth. They bring lots of money to my university. The gap between rich and poor in China is large, space is at a minimum due to a tendency to settlement in industrial centres. A greater middle class is emerging and suburbs are being built. China has more land and space to accommodate 'spacious gardens' in future, than the UK. It's still emerging.

The UK became so through a combination of empire trade enforcement and cheap production the foremost producer of textiles during the days of the empire. China, India and Brazil are at that stage now and each 'citizen' become more wealthy. Brazil had very little fertile land 40 years ago, and now has enough farms to feed the entire world.

China's in all respects is greater than the UK, and the average Chinese will be richer than the average UK citizen by 2030 at current growth rates. China is already the world's second largest economy.
Other factors are culture (the arts, science, spiritual, ethics, research in all fields), GNH, HDI etc.
