Gender equality as per what gender is in a greater position depends on what country. Most if not all Islamic/Muslim countries, women are oppressed, that is one of the many evils of the Islamic belief system. In Canada as another example, it is the opposite, it is men that are vastly becoming the oppressed, you can tell by the amount of men hired and women working in most work places as well as the men vs. women ratio in the homeless stats, men far out rank women, unfortunately, etc.... .

Anyway, I agree its not about education in terms of going through a school to teach someone not to kill their daughter, its about the education of respect. Its about RE-teaching basic human rights that were taught in the ancient world. Women were respected and worshiped for their ability to reproduce, in the early Hindu religions and I'm talking Indus and Aryan civilization. Maybe education in medical science and technology has made our moral duty less important.
