My girlfriend had an abortion before I ever knew she was expecting. Everyday, I live with the pain--the torment--of never knowing my baby. What was its gender? What color were its eyes? Well, did you choose to be straight? Would it be easy for you to choose to be gay? The answer to both is no. You kind of just know your orientation and who you're attracted to. Scientists are trying to look at what might cause people to be gay, but the best answer, as of now, is that you just know your sexual orientation. My girlfriend had an abortion before I ever knew she was expecting. Everyday, I live with the pain--the torment--of never knowing my baby. What was its gender? What color were its eyes? How much pain did it experience during the "procedure"? Would it have been wonderful to hold it and look at it and see its mother's features. Abortion is wrong, terribly wrong. And two of its victims have to keep living with that terrible choice. Think about it. PLEASE!

Well, did you choose to be straight? Would it be easy for you to choose to be gay? The answer to both is no. You kind of just know your orientation and who you're attracted to. Scientists are trying to look at what might cause people to be gay, but the best answer, as of now, is that you just know your sexual orientation. It's not like you woke up one day and said "I think I'm going to be straight." You just kind of know. It's no big choice, it's just what comes naturally to you.

Abortion is the SYMPTOM of a problem. The problem is multi-faceted: lack of education, carelessness, intoxication, and monetary incentive from the welfare/child support system and girls get pregnant on purpose. Of course rape, and abortion in first trimester is valid there (hard one). Abortion should be between the woman/father and the doc. But definitely not easy to get, like drive through MacDonalds. Kids should have to inform everyone. I read books, so I didn't screw up, ha. I'm a nurse btw.

Abortion even for rape victims and even in the first trimester is still the killing of a human being.
And it is not about the woman and her doctor, it is about the CHILD that has no say in their own demise.
I have been pregnant as many times as you have been aborted in your mother's womb. I understand the difficulty, but I implore everyone that finds themselves pregnant against their will to consider adoption.

I disagree. The woman should not have to endure the psychological trauma of carrying the child from rape to term. If I were the child, I would not want to live with a traumatized mother and my rapist father. That is ridiculous. We allow death in all kinds of appropriate circumstances, lethal injection, removing the ventilator, euthanasia. The "child from rape" is one of these situations, as well as mother's life being in danger. I'll take my chances that the Creator would understand this one.

I'm a RN for 15 years. I know all the medical possibilities. Yes, of course the woman can do adoption. But the trauma of the rape alone can leave indelible scars, much less enduring 9 months of reflection on it. And the child will invaribly want to know who it's real parents were. The mother should not have to be forced to relive this in any way over and over, wheteher by reunion with the child, or seeing it in happenstance. This is all unecessary. I simply disagree. Routine abortion is immoral.

Any time one life threatens another ending a life to eliminate that threat is justified.

Yes it is, people can be crippled for life with psychological trauma. The baby of rape is potentially threating the woman with inducing a life of mental illness. It is not death, but a form of chronic pain and torture. The child should be stopped from growing in the 1st trimester if the mother so desires. While we might have our personal beliefs about when "life begins", it is still not proven fact & here I will have to err on the mothers side. It possible could be doing harm to allow the birth.

The child living or dying will not erase the memories of rape.
It is not the child that creates the psychological trauma, it is the rapist.
The child created does not threaten the rape victim of anything. If the mother gives the child up for adoption, there is no more anguish after the birth due to the rape.
No child should be killed because their mother does not want it - at any stage of development.
The circumstances of the conception have nothing to do with the potential for harm at birth.

You don't know if the fetus is healthy or not. It might be still-born or miscarried. You don't know if the person on life support will eventually wake up and recover either. They are not "dying", they are stable. We are all dying. But decisions have to ne made. We are strictly speaking here of rape/incest/life of the mother. I am totally opposed to minors getting one without notification, and some guidelines should be in place for when it is allowed. These guidelines are State by State issues.

Killing a fetus *independent of the knowledge of its state of health* is in no way comparable to taking someone off of life support.
Here is why:
Taking someone off of life support does not kill the person. It simply removes the artificial means of support. If they are unhealthy, they die naturally.
Killing a fetus is *intentional* killing.
Period.

The patient is guiltless, with all bodily functions, but weak. The patient has no say in the matter unless there is a Living Will. The death is intentional when we cut the equipment off. If you took the 2 month fetus off the life support of it's mother, it would die as well.

Algae and bacteria are "life".
Anything exhibiting the characteristics of "growth" and "autonomous movement" is defined (by the definition of the word) as "life".

There are instances where complications arising from pregnancy are so severe that they threaten the life of the mother.
In these instances, and lets be honest - these are rare, ending one life to protect another is justified.
If someone attacks you and you lack means of escape, you are justified in taking their life in defense of your own. They attacked you and they are at fault for endangering your life.
Children growing in a womb very rarely do this.

In order to be considered murder, it must meet three criteria (by the definition of the word):
1) The act must be intentional
2) The act must result in the death of a human being.
3) The act must be *unlawful*.
It is the third criteria that disqualifies abortion as murder. Many people like to use that word in an accusatory way, but its not entirely accurate.
Timothy McVeigh was intentionally put to death, but he wasn't murdered because his execution was lawful.

An unfortunate truth in this country is that abortion is still legal. And because it is legal when we call it murder, we are exposing an ignorance of the definition of the word.
