I remember seeing a montage of clips from the early days of Channel One. Now, Wikipedia says it started in the early 90's, but I clearly remember seeing black and white clips from either the 40's or 50's. Can anyone else confirm this?

We watched Channel 1 I believe throughout all 4 years in high-school, spanning 1991-1995.

@sab15802000 yeh back in 97 ch1 did a time line from 1978 to 1997 for the graduateing classes of 1997 which included the launching of mtv back when they first begane broadcast and actualy played music videos and the space shuttel chalenger diaster and other history makeing stuff

I was in 8th grade back then and remember these. Except the picture quality wasn't this good. We had to come to school 15 minutes earlier to watch channel one. A few years later parents were complainung because their kids had to watch the commercials aginst their will.

Interesting. I think we watched it at the end of 1st hour, but I don't recall how that worked. They must have shortened 1st hour by 10 minutes. I wonder if 1st period gym students completely missed it.

@Treknologist i was also in the 8th grade back then and the schoole actulay showed the program 4 times a day 1 first thing during first period and durung the 2 lunch periods and then again like the last 10 mins of the dya

That's great! Most parents don't know about Channel One and its evil tactics. The only reason that Channel One exists is to allow marketers to enter schools. Channel One needs to be stopped. Ads -especially for dumb movies, 1000+ calorie Subway sandwiches, junk food, drugs (yes, CH1 advertised a pill that the FDA considers a drug), $150 cell phones. Sports isn't news, weather isn't news. The "news" on CH1 is merely a filler for advertisments.

I haven't watched channel one in over 12 years. Back then it was 4 commercials per show please tell me they haven't increased that? As for the commercials it was always public service, gatorade and burgerking. At least thats all I remember. Now that I'm older looking back someones pockets were/are getting lined with money. You would think CNN or one of those could do the news free as a public service.
