@dave7200 More likely to hit the tail exiting from the door. Its closer and inline with the tail. Once your out on the wing the chance of hitting the tail is virtually 0%.
yes he was taking a bigger risk ;) but if you have ever stood behind the prop of a small plane even under only light power youd find it hard to even stand up let alone move towards it or fall into it + that looked like more fun than a usual jump 2 me !!!!!!! B-)
im a skydiver (a paralyzed one at that so nIcant stand :) )
and been jumping out of various Cesnas, & Super Grand Caravan's-we techically have the fastest skydiving dispatch Caravan in the world with our engine upgrade to 900 HP from the 595 typical.... none of us getting on a load have a hard time "standind"by the prop-might you thats also "stupid"-standing ner bprop on the ground)-yet surely places like Lodi who;d care what you do?..:(
not necessarily-sure if the engine is shut off-BUT when 'hot loading' (the engine is not shut off except for refueling-and we dont shut it off for refueling either because we got a grand caravan and it has to sit engine off for 20 min. to cool ofrf if its turned off\0,,,\'so when hot loading that prop is moving fast enough to slice your head off-take a look at some videos of FreakFly-from my dropzone-you will see the people loading with the engine running in our caravan... that's common practice
anyways yah it's still taking unnecessary risks-what this guy did-but what ever like i said the air cleans itself-these types of risks are unnecessary in our sport then when that 'cleaning' comes along the FAA n every wuffo starts slamming the sport itself n everyone in it... not right :(
true true! i went 4 my 1st tandem about 2 weeks ago and i would have already started aff now i loved it sooo much but the weather here has turned bad at moment. im not saying wat this guy did was a smart move, but if it was a single engine plane id find it "tempting" to try that ;) nd just out of interest next time your down at the field put yourself about 2M behind the caravan and wait till it powers up enough to taxy away (youd b suprised how much air it takes to move the plane )
great to start in the sport-but shed that idea of 'i'd love to...' (single engine plane-yah think of it now, IF YOU FCK UP,- you TAKE DOWN THE WHOLE PLANE n everyone in it-good move!) Get yourself 100+ skydives for experience before talking of what you'd love to.... seriously. B.A.S.E. world is dangerous enough, skydiving not so-yet fools like these can fck up a good day for a whole lot of people-if they want to fck up their own-go do it somewhere alone!.
ok i can agree with that ;) ive seen a guy hit the ground 200M from me so yea i can see this sport is a fairly safety conscious one. nd i never said id love to.... nd i said put yourself behind the plane...... dare you to !
to all the people who think you could fall into the prop, think again, that planes doing at least 60-70 mph that kinda wind would be nest to impossible to fall forward.
it's NOT about falling forward-if you look at his gear-the riser covers look ok but the closing flsp from his main parachute is open-the speeds he is flying at (typically slow down to about 110mph for the jump run-since terminal velocity is 120mph approx. the diver actually picks up speed for the first few seconds once out the door-in this case off the wing-but he is still going 1--+mph-that main comes out-it very well could get tangled up in the prop-THAT'S where the safety problem is
at least take a better safety rig...the clap from the main was open...the pin could get out very easy at i dont even wanna think about what could happen..
There's something on the wing! And when someone looks he's not there. Thumbs up if you understand.

Very cool but I must say I'm very surprised the pilot would let him do that. More than once a skydiver has taken the tail feathers off on the way by.

I don't think the pilot had a choice

yes me too...
there is taking risks and then there is just plain being stupid...
but as they say -"the air cleans itself",
THE stupid ones 'go in' quicker then the rest-usually....

When you're getting on the plane, the prop is barely doing anything. Otherwise the plane would be moving.

When I say barely doing anything, I mean compared to when it's actually working hard, causing the plane to propel forward.
