  • It's beautiful! A few years after Karen died I'd finished playing in Hollywood one night when someone asked if I'd like to go to Richard Carpenters place (in Malibu I think he said) some day & jam & play some music with him because he was considering getting something going.

Stupidly I was into all this stuff I thought was so much hipper, didn't think Richard would have much happening without Karen, so I said no thanks.

Now 25 years later I realise I should have gone because Richard's great too

  • So haunting and beautiful.

  • i don't like to cry but this song is so beautiful i listen to it all the time and everytime i hear i cry

  • Its beautiful... Thankyou for uploading

  • This is great! Thank you for posting it.

I would also like to recommend "When Time Was All We Had" by Richard Carpenter, which is about Karen and in which he sings all of the parts.

  • anytime i listen to this song i close my eyes and i can think of Karen being there singing to it

  • what the f**ck dit is nog altijd hemels...

  • ik val in herhaling, maar dit is zo mooi...

  • I would like to put this one out there & roll the Dice for the world to read & see what they think of this idea. I would Love more than anything in the world for Richard Carpenter to get the Carpenter band together (including Herb, & Burt who were a Big part) & do a tribute show for Karen &Tony. Why not one more time, for the good old times. Everyones getting older each & every year, I really believe in my heart that this would be special & Karen could be included on a Big Screen with Pictures

  • @vmuto1 YESS!!

  • I first heard this song after Karen passed away.. It was very soothing. But because of what had happened.

I cried, the tears came down gently as I could just imagined how Richard felt when he wrote, then played this for his loving sister.

And I still cry when I hear it.

What a Beautiful way to remember your sister, in a sweet and caring way that will always be heard as it continues to send it's sweet message of love as the wind carries it through the gentle breeze of life.

  • @charlie6644 To compose a song that has this much emotion, I would have needed Thompson's Water Seal for my piano if I were even able to finish the song. Karen's gift lives in each one of us. Of course Karen is missed. She has inspired others to strive for the same musical excellence that she shared with the world. When We've Only Just Begun hit the airwaves for the first time I was all over it, and have been a devotee to the compilation of Carpenter's music ever since. Let's Road Ode.

  • @Desoto875 one more thing,,, your channel is great, Love the song by Stacy L.

    Thanks for what you do.

  • Thank you Richard for this. I miss you two. Thank you both for all the wonderful memories.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this, I heard it a few years ago, it was beautiful then and its still beautiful.

  • I was a huge fan of the Carpenters in my teens and twenties and applauded Karens's and Richard's solo attempts. However, when she died, hearing that unforgettable Karen Carpenter voice made me sad and I didn't listen to Carpenters music for years. Now, I am again enjoying the music for the great music it still is, and not dwelling on the tragedy, as she and Richard would like, I'm sure.

  • thank you karen, thank u, missed you...RIP karen....

  • this is so beautiful...i dont understand that you can hate this music...there is so much love in it...

  • A thousand feelings expressed without even a word. <3

  • ' love this!! love everything from the Carpenters!

  • i hate this music...when i was small,, when i first heard this, i thought it was so saaaaad..! i wasnt aware of the carpenters that time. but when i found out several years back, when i became a fan of the carpenters, and found out that RC composed this, and that this was made in Karen's memory, damn it made my eye so teary everytime i hear this from my mom's stereo...really i do! i am ashamed that a man as big as me could actually be carried away by such music...RIP KC. i am now a big fan

  • Richard. Mr./The Carpenters. man. so pretty. so pretty. just like the one from HenryM's daughter. Sometimes./ you Loved Karen. We Love Karen. and I Love you for all the gifts. The Carpenters. never will ever be anything as perfect as what you did Richard. Robert.

  • Karen can bring emotion out of people with her voice... Richard can do it with his piano. Some amazing talented people.

  • what is the name of the song??

  • @rocanlover151 Karen's Theme

  • linda música somente ele poderia fazer isso faltou o solo dela

  • 你看那個暴力incesting強姦怪胎。許多在這裡我們現在知道你怎麼卡倫。你讓我噁心怪胎

  • @chrischan286 他只是懷念Karen

  • hermosa melodia Gracias Richard, apreciamos a Karen como a ti. Es merecedora de este homenaje.

  • @TheLuispedro7 ¿esta melodia como se llama?

  • @rocanlover151 Karen's Theme o "Tema de Karen" en español

  • Karen gave us so much with her voice and music. She and her brother Richard played an important part in the music industry and we still have their music to prove it.

  • Thank you for posting this; this kind of music touches the very best part of mankind.

  • I never met Karen. She died when I was 13. However..even before her passing I loved her. Her voice always made me smile. Love you Karen

  • A wonderful and loving tribute to an amazing talent

  • richard carpenter was the guiding force in this band and encouraged karen to get out in the front of the band and show the world her talent. they like all of us are human and are open to all human failings. richard is a truly talented musician and i was very sad for his loss and for his families loss. it all seems so long ago now yet the music they made remains as beautiful as the day it was made.

  • Moved me to tears. I get emotional when I watch videos about Karen and listen to her amazing voice. I have heard other singers that I though had rich and beautiful voices and some have passed on but I don't feel that emotional drawing when I listen to them. Only when it is Karen. I never met her. I was 21 when she passed. I wonder why i am affected this way over someone I never met. Even now as I type this, tears are running down my cheeks. Why does this affect me so much?

  • @Singjoyous You can watch the " Karen Carpenter story " here on youtube. I loved her too. She is sadly missed and adored. What a wonderful way for her brother to honor her and remember her. R.I.P. Karen you are singing with the angels now.

  • @iscrca You can also google it and buy it online...I did...someone was able to upload their VHS copy onto DVD and I bought it and it is in good quality. It was apporox 10.00 USA dollars and she had a couple examples of stills on her webpage.

  • @iscrca Thank you! :o)

  • @Singjoyous Because you're part of the club. You know what real music and talent are and you appreciate it. From my experience there are only a very limited amount of people in this world who get emotional listening to music. I believe all Carpenters fan have a special gift for music and vocal appreciation... we all "get it". Many do not, which is very unfortunate.

  • @JP5466 I'm not sure if my reply went through so my apologies if this is a duplicate - I appreciate your reply. How lovely!

  • This song makes me miss Karen immensely. R.I.P. dear one you will never be forgotten and always loved by many who didn't know you but knew your music and how beautiful you both were. Your brother did a beautiful tribute to you. I know he misses you too.

  • what a memory

  • Love you, Richard...

  • Perfection as usual. Carpenter is same as saying perfection. Bravo. Karen would be so proud I am so very sure. What grace and beauty as Karen herself was as we the public saw her to be. God bless. We all miss her......

  • Well done, richard. the expression on your face tells a story

  • I have heard Karen's songs since she first became a star. I don't know why I know this, or how... but I just KNOW she had a real warm heart.. for people.. and I am confident that she is presently with the Lord, in eternity... SINGING praises to God.

    I truly believe that

  • Beautiful tribute Richard. So touching it makes me cry because I miss her. I know she is singing with the angels now. She had an angelic voice that no one else will ever have. Left this world too soon because of what others thought of her and what she should look like instead of what kind of person she should be. R.I.P. Karen we miss you.

  • I just seen Shrek 3 and "Top of the World" was used in it....Sad to say, being unfamiliar with the Carpenters..I just learned she died...She sounded AWESOME!!

  • Awsome Richard! Karen is missed much....

  • just wonderfull

  • I miss you Karen, what an honor to hear a song that your brother wrote for you. It brings tears to my eyes and sadness to my ears because you are no longer here with us. You are now singing with the angels in heaven. They are lucky to have you with them. Love you always even though you are no longer here on earth with us. That beautiful voice will be missed forever.

  • Thank you, Richard for this beautiful tribute to Karen and for all the music that you have given the world. You have a lot to be proud of. Stay well.

  • I can hear her in this piece. She is looking down.

    R.I.P precious one x

  • A song has words

  • Richard got more handsome with age....

  • Beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes.

    I love you, Karen

  • Miss Karen.

This melody is so touching and moving.

  • It is at one time gorgeous and graceful, like a shining flower, and yet wistful and poignantly thoughtful, of a treasure lost! I know the feeling so well, as do so many. So, sadly, it is with Richard, and the rest of us having lost Karen, but thankfully he continues with beautiful compositions like this, so moving and valued, by all.

  • A very sad melody.........makes me value more the people around me...."life's too short.....I will only pass this world once........".

  • The Carpenters music touched my life, my childhood and sparked the beginning of my musical journey! Thank you Richard Carpenter, for this beautiful composition dedicated to Karen Carpenter. Blessings

  • i cant even describe how karen and richards music moved me as a young teenager in the 70s much less to tell you how i love all her songs & how much me and her have in common ,my voice is almost identical to hers and have been singing her music since 12 yrs old ,many years later i miss her so much it is unreal , we never met but she saved my life with her words and beautiful love that she sent out of her was so radiating and i will always sing her music in tribute to her, she is always missed V

  • I meant that as a "thumb's up." I don't seem to be able to change it.

  • I cried. :*(

I really thought Karen made this piece, but I guess it's after she passed which makes it more sad. It is beautiful.

  • Thanks to Richard.

    (Thanks to Karen)

  • I miss her too. She did alot for me. Cat.

  • So relaxing to one's soul......Thanks for sharing.

  • One of the most Beautiful pieces I have EVER heard, leave it to Richard... I am a HUGE LONGTIME fan of the Carpenters and I love Richards solo works now, SO SO TALENTED both of them... I STILL TO THIS DAY often "cry" when I hear Karen's voice... I Miss her... and I KNOW Richard misses her so much, you can "hear it" in his playing... so so sad we lost her so young... RIP Karen... and Richard, KEEP the music alive in her memory, you have so much more to do... a great pianist like David Foster too.

  • This is soo beautiful! I love it! I bought the score! It is soo sad that she died the way she did and at such a young age. Could you imagine the new music they could have done! It sadens me to think of it

  • A nice melody. But, maybe she(it) could have received a better honoring of his(her, your) brother and simultaneously companion in the duo that they formed(trained).

  • this piano solo makes me want to cry every time i listen to it.

    i love the carpenters.

i wish i have the score of it!

  • Richard is a wonderful composer. He's a genius with music. And Karen what a VOICE! She's gifted with such a unique wonderful voice.

  • It sure is,,,the MOST BEAUTIFUL,,INDEED!!

Richard, a most wonderful musican& composer,,with his talents and his sister's singing,,what an unstoppable force they were,,I'll love them forever,,,

  • This is such a beautiful piece of music. Most people can only dream of having someone write such a gorgeous song in their memory. What a wonderful tribute.

  • @robbourassaguitarist I agree, as a musician, he is in the company of Sir Paul, Sir Elton, Burt B., Barry G. and Brian W. They all had the same gift.

and yeah, as John Lennon said to Karen - "your voice is fab, luv"

  • BEAUTIFUL song, course what Carpenters song isn't? Am SO glad Richard is keeping Karen's memory and their music alive... I wish I could see him perform near me in Delaware, am a huge fan of his relaxing piano music that he's recorded since Karen's death... He looks FABULOUS, what a Gorgeous man he is, looks even better "older"... miss u Karen...

  • all of karen carpenter's songs bring tears 2 my eyes...just because of the fact that she died young. such a shame! ='(

  • Que música linda, super homenagem à sua inesquecível irmã. Com certeza, de onde ela está, apreciou o presente.

  • She was with us for such a short time.....but she sure has left her mark on this world. We are all better people because of the love she helped us to feel in our hearts through her beautiful voice. Even after all these years....I still cry whenever I hear her songs.....

  • Me too ,,I miss her voice singing to me on the radio, with all her heart and sou,l so much. I grew up heaing her on radio,,man I miss her deeply, she truly was " ONE OF A KIND"....THANKS RICHARD FOR THIS LOVLY , LOVLY TUNE...AS ONLY YOU COULD DO......LOVE YOU TOO....A FOREVER FAN. CARLA

  • This theme brings tears to my eyes at times, as she should still be with us, Such a tragic loss, She will alwqts be missed,

  • Yeah, real funny. Jerk

  • Simply beautiful thank you

  • lloved the carpenters since i dont no when karen was so talented and richard still is so talented what beautiful music have we all missed richard without karen is like a melody without a song karen is sorely missed but i only have to look at my daughter every day to be reminded of her she was named after karen rip karen u will never be forgotten

  • Richard Carpenter still look very good and handsome after all those years.

  • God Damn it why did Karen have to leave us? It just isnt fair...

  • Oh wait...... She was here; and followed Her heart.

  • wow deep

  • You are so, so right. Why, with all the great friends, fortune, etc, she could not be helped? So utterly tragic.

  • it really was - a beautiful talent and woman lost to a terrible illness. May she have found the peace she was seeking at last.

  • I'm balling my eyes out right now. Beautiful. God I miss her voice. They were so great!

  • Hope you are doing OK. Karen is deeply missed by me also. She remains to be the best there is.

Thank you for honoring her legacy.

  • Be sure to play ; " I Can Dream, Can't I` and "I Need To Be In Love." They may be the two most beautiful numbers she ever recorded.

  • I feel the same way. She should still be with us, having long ago settled down with her own family, she so wanted, To just be a wife and mother. She didn't ask for much, but I guess it was not meant to be,

  • toshia!

  • I saw the Carpenters at a midnight show at the Riviera in 74, the band[and Karen] went offstage, and Richard closed the show with the Warsaw Concerto;his performance was noyhing short of magnificant. He really and truly is a gifted performer, as well as a composer, arranger, singer, etc.

  • Richard is a wonderful composer. You wonder what they would be like together now, how much wonderful music will never be heard because of her passing.

This song is wonderful, no need for visuals, just close your eyes and listen! Thank you for posting it!

  • such a tear jerker. a beautiful melodic masterpiece. it's just a beautiful piece of music and so so incredibly sad. Rest in Peace Karen Carpenter.

  • Absolutely beautiful! I first heard this when I watched The Karen Carpenter Story (I know every line from that film), and until now had no idea it was titled 'Karen's Theme' and that the wonderful Richard Carpenter composed it. It's so moving and brings tears to your eyes. RIP Karen..'A Star on Earth A Star in Heaven'

  • love his great piano touch... every time i listen to richard's piano solo, i want to cry:( surely karen is the reason... thank you for the posting

  • This is such a beautiful piece of music. A loving tribute from a brother to his sister. Richard had/has an incredible ability to write tunes that really touch something deep inside you. The world still mourns the death of Karen Carpenter, I know I sure do :(

  • i hope i age as cute as richard carpenter...

    so cute he is

  • Almost as beautiful as the soul it glorifies.

  • I second that emotion, very well stated.

  • Simply BEaUTIFUL. - Penny (In Remembrance of Karen.)

  • It is a very touching and poignant song indeed, I have never heard this song until now, and tears welled up in me when I heard it, a tribute to a beautiful and talented lady whose life was taken at such an early age. Her spirit lives on in her music and her sweet voice.

    Regards, BestKACFan

  • Well Bestkacfan, I only wish I could express in words what effect her angelic voice has had on me through the years as you have. What you said was so touching and heartfelt. I would say in most of the songs she sang, theres a haunting touch of sadness in her voice that brings tears to my eyes, often, as im certain it does others. I am so sorry & sad that you lost your dear friend, far to soon & the world lost such a beautiful soul. KAC forever! Mitch

    Robs

  • Mere words cannot express how this touches

    my heart. Thank you.

Rest in peace you beautiful and amazingly talented woman! The music scene is simply not the same anymore xx

  • This is simply beautiful!! I cry everytime I hear it. I first heard it on the karen carpenter story with Cynthia Gibb which I loved! Cynthia does such a great Karen!!

Rest in Peace you beautiful and amazingly talented woman, you are missed by everybody! The music scene is simply not the same xx

  • One of my all-time favorite songs. Beautiful. Short. Sweet. Like Karen's life.

  • While Karen's life was short, I don't believe it was necessarily sweet. She came across as a woman with enormous talent and with a great sense of humour, but behind closed doors it's fair to say that she would've been in great turmoil. She suffered with anorexia nervosa at a time when little was known about it and before it was known to be a mental health issue. I'm sure her passing left a huge void in the lives of those who knew her. 25 years on, may she still rest in peace.

  • This composition is beautiful!!! Beautiful, he(she) speaks karen's through, on having listened to her is impossible not to bring recollections, karen's images ... of the group ... all that thrills every part of my body.

Richard speaks my heart to you...

You are brilliant and nobody is going to exist as The Carpenters ever!

  • this is the greatest music tributes to sisters in the world..Love it,feel it then you'll see what love is really mean

  • This is a beautiful song, I am only 19, but the music of the carpenters has touched me so much, and this is just most touching.

  • una palabra: "celestial". Gracias Richard y un beso para Karen.

  • from spain, hello... so sad, so beautiful, makes me feel so good, thanks richard. It's magic... I don't speak english but I feel the music, so deep.

Gracias Richard por haber compuesto una maravilla como esta, siempre estará en mi mente tanto la canción como Karen

  • May Jesus eternally Bless you. He loves you so much. In Heaven, then will you meet Karen.

  • So Sad. So beautiful. Rest in peace dear Princess. I look forward to meeting you in Heaven.
