hey108x Actually it was the huge differences in the "average grunt" that made the German plan initially work. Stalins purges had killed many thousands of the officer corp and the average Soviet soldier was poorly trained in both tactics and ability. Stalin used up his troops with blunt force and used fear and terror tactics to control them.
The one person interviewed mentioned that it was obvious that the Germans were the better soldiers. I think that it wouldve only appeared so since it was actually part of a surprise attack. Stalin was totally caught by surprise so you cannot really compare a well oiled, experienced army against an unprepared army in the initial contact period. The blitzkrieg tactic was superior, but on grunt level its basically the same.

hey108x Actually it was the huge differences in the "average grunt" that made the German plan initially work. Stalins purges had killed many thousands of the officer corp and the average Soviet soldier was poorly trained in both tactics and ability. Stalin used up his troops with blunt force and used fear and terror tactics to control them.

The one person interviewed mentioned that it was obvious that the Germans were the better soldiers. I think that it wouldve only appeared so since it was actually part of a surprise attack. Stalin was totally caught by surprise so you cannot really compare a well oiled, experienced army against an unprepared army in the initial contact period. The blitzkrieg tactic was superior, but on grunt level its basically the same.

The only way Germany could ever won the war was by going offensive all the way until Soviet either surrender or beg for a peace treaty.

Also, the United States is not an imperialist country. Our only possessions are just a few small islands that we simply administer with the consent of the governed.
