  • Im going to see her perform tomorrow!

  • This piece is especially compelling if you know the poem by Goethe. The genius of the composer, schubert at the time only 18 wrote really frightning music to acompany this dark and at the same time enlightened poem. And well played! Bravo!!

  • Whoa. just whoa. The chords are so hard to keep up with and learn I was almost ready to give up learning it but now hearing this... just whoa. Serious motivation material.

  • ...this is like a piece custom-composed for Yuja, her technique...it "plays itself" under her fingers and gives her little chance to fuck it up...

  • I love it!!! I don't know much about classical piano but Yuja really impressed me with her superb technique and her passionate interpretation. I love her fire and brilliance. Bravo

  • brilliant

  • Man, she plays fast. To fast for my liking. But still very good performance.

  • Amazing! I think she's a musical Cyborg!

  • great colors!

  • the piano accompaniment is hard enough.... putting both the melody and accompaniment is just madness

    awsome perfomance

  • i don't know who she is but i really adore her after hearing this version. I think she is the one who did the greatest job for this piece that i ever heard in YouTube

  • Actually, I believe Schubert never meant this to go this fast, but everyone does. People need to look at the score and know a lot about Schubert's whole output before deciding on a certain tempo. We need to consider the tempo marking. Still, only people like Yuja Wang, who CAN play this fast, should even THINK about playing it fast, because there's nothing worse than a pianist who has weak octaves play this piece.

  • @organboi, Yuja's simplificies the original text of that Liszt 's transcription. And really this is the secret her fast tempo :))

  • @organboi, I think if you try play in public this Liszt's transcriptioin of Earlkoenig you should as well possess good octave technic as have purpose to reflect the authentic spirit of the Schubet's song. It's possible even if you are a neat figure girl of small stature.

  • @organboi, here it is: youtube.com/watch?v=q7DR0QJru-A

By the way, opposed to Yuja, that girl (20 year old winner of the 7th International Franz Liszt Piano Weimar Competition) plays EXACT Liszt's text without any simplification :)

  • Those with negative critiques should upload a video of themselves playing it to show us the correct rendition and how it was intended to be played.

  • @3729yout Buy a book on piano technique.

  • Replay... Replay... Replay...

  • I think I'm in love.

  • 4.31 pretty dangerous

  • Everything she plays is a stunt.

When the melody comes in you can't even hear the motive in triplets in the left hand. She can only bring it out when it appears alone.

Even in something as simple as this she is a non contrapuntal player.

The end result of all this frantic banging is a headache.

  • @marcxopoco Excuse me, but I think this is a pretty stupid comment. Virtually every note in Liszt's music _is_ a stunt. He knows exactly how to make things sound difficult, but it's almost always playable (at least for him), and actually fun to play once you master it. As for being "contrapuntal", I hope you don't try to bring your little second voice out all the time when you accompany a singer... bringing out that little counterpoint that nobody sees doesn't make you a genius...

  • @marcxopoco: That said, I agree that this pianist could play even better than she already does (by working on her sound palette, for instance), but don't you think this is already absolutely amazing? And very promising? If not, well, then I am really sorry for you. Gxis revido!

  • @madgeekygeek is so incompetent that she doesn't know "that little counterpoint that nobody sees" starts the piece and comes in almost every measure.

Obviously clueless madfreak can't HEAR--and so writes "that nobody sees."

    A typical youtube "musical" expert.

  • @marcxopoco >A typical youtube "musical" expert. , who happens to be a professional pianist and a professor at the biggest musical school in France, but doesn't claim to be a youtube "musical" expert in any way. The thing you're talking about is more than a counterpoint, it's the main rythmical element of the piece. I was reacting to your "she's non contrapuntal player", thinking that you had something more subtle in mind. If you can't hear the main rythmical theme, maybe you should

  • @marcxopoco. buy a better sound card? Anyway, I bet you'll stop writing aggressive, chauvinistic and judgmental things when you reach that pianist's level. Good luck. (P.S: I don't know how you would assume that I'm a woman, which I am not, but my guess is that you're not one either :-)

  • @marcxopoco I don't think you're judging very fairly. Mainly because you're expecting too much. We all know she's not famous for her interpretational skills. But her accuracy at these speeds aren't equaled by many. She's a superb technician. And while we all love yammering about how it's "the music" that matters, there's no denying that race-cars are impressive in their own way.

She just hasn't been programmed for this (and yes, I'm stereotyping)

  • this is crazy...

    crazy amazing
